That's what happens when you release exclusively to a platform nobody fucking wants to buy into He would have not had this trouble if his ego didnt prevent him from putting this on spotify, apple music and iTunes
there is no way that you can make your music exclusive to tidal and not present an image of: "I literally only care about money for this album."
there is no way that you can make your music exclusive to tidal and not present an image of: "I literally only care about money for this album."
I think it's more about him being friends with Jay-Z. If he wanted money he would let me give it to him in exchange for his music.
I think it's more about him being friends with Jay-Z. If he wanted money he would let me give it to him in exchange for his music.
he wants money enough to beg people for it. I'd say he wants money. He's just too stubborn about tidal to give it up.
Didn't he tweet it would be on sale a week after it was on tidal? I can't access the BBC page if he's changed this
i always found it pretty hilarious how they claimed to be supporting indie or lesser known artists when they plastered the entire thing with celebrities
the whole thing is a fucking joke really. It's just a bunch of rich people talking about how it's gonna help indies out. I wonder how it was supposed to more than Bandcamp, an already super successful indie platform built literally on the prospect of giving as much money as possible to the artist.
I'll happily torrent Kanye West GNU/Linux, a fork of the well known Biebian (User was banned for this post ("Piracy And Leaks You won't be banned for warez/leaks unless: • You provide links • You ask for links • You hint at where to download • You openly declare or brag about it" - Big Dumb American))
Uhh why was he banned? GNU/Linux distros are free software so it is completely legal to distrubute them via torrents. In-fact it's a pretty common method of distribution. Even if he wasn't joking (because Kanye West GNU/Linux doesn't exist lol) it wouldn't be warez related.

That's what the RC is for, and that's why every time a thread gets derailed to talk about somebody being banned, the mods tell you to cut it out and just let him make his point in the RC. Derailing a thread to discuss or complain about bans or rules or mods or whatever will never ever ever ever be the deciding factor in whether a ban sticks or not. More often than not, all that will do is end up in more people being banned for derailing. If somebody gets banned and you think it's unfair, that's cool, but just wait for him to make an RC thread about it. Remind him to on Steam or something if you want. Don't be a dope and derail this thread any further or you're gonna get shitcanned.
he then later tweeted that it won't be coming out at all
That's so disappointing. When I buy music, rather than just youtubing/spotifying that shit I like to only buy CDs. That way, I actually own the music, and get to rip it as whatever format I have for my phone/PC. Only time I think I buy digital is via bandcamp for shit that I really can't get elsewhere.
Like his music is good enough to even be pirated in the first place. Some people seem to think so. lol

I find some sort way to buy the physical CD (sometimes even vinyl!), rip it, then upload it to as many cloud services as possible because I'm afraid of losing my music. I'm still struggling to get a copy of a Ging Nang Boyz album because I can't order things through amazon.co.jp and 3rd party sources charge a middleman fee to buy things through them.
Like his music is good enough to even be pirated in the first place. Some people seem to think so. lol
Yeah "some", like 500,000 people.
Like his music is good enough to even be pirated in the first place. Some people seem to think so. lol
Taste in music is entirely subjective. Obviously he has his fans.
Yeah "some", like 500,000 people.
Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of those were just to spite Kanye for making it exclusive in the first place.
I also have the album. It ain't half bad tbh. I like the bit where he goes "I love you like Kanye loves Kanye" then laughs :v:
Never used Tidal (or any other music streaming service) but could someone give me a heads-up on how it's shit?
Never used Tidal (or any other music streaming service) but could someone give me a heads-up on how it's shit?
It shares some of the same problems that all streaming services have, where you don't own your music, are subject to whatever rules they put in place, and whatnot. But with this case in particular it's the exclusivity I think that's got people pissed off
It shares some of the same problems that all streaming services have, where you don't own your music, are subject to whatever rules they put in place, and whatnot. But with this case in particular it's the exclusivity I think that's got people pissed off
Not owning the music isn't really a problem for like, 95% of the market. They just want to listen to shit, if paying a monthly fee means they never have to buy a song again then that's a damn good deal to them (and it is a really tempting thing if you listen to a lot of music). The main issues with it are almost entirely down to it being a redundant service that doesn't really compete. So what you offer lossless audio? Most of your listeners don't have the kit to take advantage of it. The artist selection is going to be a fair bit more limited than other services (Spotify picks up a lot of small bands, Google Music streams whatever the fuck you want it to). In general it doesn't make sense as a service, it doesn't do enough to justify the subscription fee for the average listeners who would use streaming services. Outside of having exclusivity for things like Kanyes' new stuff.
Yeah I'm a bit annoyed that I couldn't stream it off Spotify. However when I get the files I'll just put it on there for my own use.
It also costs twice as much as competing services like spotify
Only if you want hifi-quality streaming. There's still a regular subscription plan that's equal in price to Spotify.
What kind of equipment do you actually need to take advantage of the HiFi streaming anyways?
Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of those were just to spite Kanye for making it exclusive in the first place.
If you hate Kanye so much that you're willing to go out of your way to illegally pirate his music just to toss it in the recycling bin... that's just sad lol I don't see why it surprises you that a majority of those pirates are probably Kanye fans who aren't willing to pay for a Tidal subscription and just want the album. He's one of the biggest artists around, half a million downloads for a release this botched doesn't surprise me at all.
he then later tweeted that it won't be coming out at all
a bit surprised he isn't even doing a vinyl release
a bit surprised he isn't even doing a vinyl release
I think a few of his albums didn't have vinyl releases, most recently Yeezus. Hope we at least get physical copies. So I can actually buy it.
What kind of equipment do you actually need to take advantage of the HiFi streaming anyways?
There's no easy answer to that, just get high quality lossless files of some songs, transcode them to high-quality mp3, then compare the two in foobar with an ABX test plugin. If you can hear a difference at all, congratulations, it might be worth it for you.
I think a few of his albums didn't have vinyl releases, most recently Yeezus. Hope we at least get physical copies. So I can actually buy it.
I bet he'll release it on 8-track just so people have a hard time ripping it
hahahaaha he might be a "top artist" But sure as hell he's TOO stupid to be a businessman GG dude selling your album through only ONE distribution channel, and to top it off, one of the WORST. Just, stop bothering the world and grabbing prizes off people....
I listened to it and honestly clicked through it and found it meh. Nothing really stood out to me.
So if I'm understanding this tidal thing right you have to subscribe to it monthly to be able to access/listen to music, right? Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but that is the most retarded idea ever. In the times I have bought an album of an artist its because I genuinely want to directly support my favorite bands and give them money to show my support. All these artists going "boo hoo people are pirating my stuff" make me shake my head. They still do shows/concerts right? I know those can ring up to pretty pricey and people will go to see them live. Won't some of them even get money from putting up music videos on youtube or whatever? Hell, some artists will get paid to have their songs/music used in various forms of media or even be sponsored. These big shot artists can't be losing tremendous amounts of money to the point they're needing every dollar they can get with like...oh I don't know, other indie artists that aren't even halfway as well known as them or might not even get a chance to be as well known as them. So if I'm still understanding this tidal thing its supposed to 'help' those artists but also be paying the big shots as well? That's bullcrap. [editline]16th February 2016[/editline] I just wanted to add to my original post that I don't doubt at all that there isn't a lot of work behind making music, making music videos, writing, etc. I'd love for indie artists to get the money they deserve for the work they put into. I just can't stand when these big stars that are obviously well off are like "our music is suffering" when they're clearly well off then well...most of the population of the world and musical artists in general.
