t-mobile charged me 45 dollars because i accidentally loaded ONE webpage without a prompt that data wasn't on my plan
fucking fascists, verizon is way better.
Agreed. I have the Gravity 2 from T-mobile and it feels like a minefield because every 5th icon charges for something.
Wait, Sprint was supposed to acquire T-Mobile. What the hell happened?
When was this and why would they do that? They use completely different cell technologies, it would make managing their service and support a fucking disaster.
e: Also, it's likely that the FTC will tell them to fuck off with their deal.
that was close I just ended my t-mobile subscription about a week before this
i'm with sprint so it's fine
:smug:

Out of curiosity, what is faster, Verizon's 4G or Sprint's? (if you know)
I heard AT&T's 4G was total shit too.
Been an AT&T customer forever. Don't know what the fuss is about.
Coverage, Speed, Service, etc. are all excellent.
I have no gripes with AT&T either. I'm more excited for extended cellular service.
However, what about the 3G band difference. D:

It was on Engadget about a week or so ago.
Also T-Mobile will remain an independent company, so nothing will change for AT&T or T-Mobile customers.
The only time I liked having AT&T was when I went to DC for a really large event. There were so many Verizon users that they pretty much destroyed the network. I was like the only person there that had AT&T and I had 5 bars all day. :smug:
Except then everyone wanted to borrow my phone to call their lost friends who's phones didn't work either.
So do AT&T and T-Mobile. :downs:
No they don't, they both use GSM/EDGE (2G/2.5G), HSPA+ (3G/3.5G) and LTE(Fake 4G).
They use different spectrum to use these technologies, but many phone's radios will switch between the two carriers without a hardware change. The simple flashing of a new baseband on the radio will usually suffice. This is why you see people with iPhones who use T-Mobile without a problem.
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT
Now im gonna have shit phones AND shitty coverage/service!

How will this affect either of those things?
How will this affect either of those things?
AT&T has shit coverage. Tmobile is better compared. Thats what I think.

Your point being? You do realize you'll have largely the same amount of phones as both carriers combined, and I somehow doubt that they would knock down non-redundant cell towers.
Damn it. We are getting an excellent price with T-Mobile. I really hope they are just a child company of att and not merge. I really, really hate att. :smith:
Well if they do merge, after my year contract is over I am switching to sprint.
Your point being? You do realize you'll have largely the same amount of phones as both carriers combined, and I somehow doubt that they would knock down non-redundant cell towers.
You do have a point. I don't know about the phone part, but AT&T's range is supposedly awful/horrible etc and i suppose half of my believing that is from biased opinions and bandwagoning.

You can't use 3G on both services with one phone. You can do voice and 2G, but 3G are different frequencies. Maybe you can flash the radio (I really don't know), but anything short of that won't get you 3G.
I had AT&T on my Nexus One, and I could get voice and all that. I didn't pay for data, but I wouldn't have gotten 3G. I switched to T-Mobile using the same phone and voice works no problem. (still no data plan)

I prefer sprint, better phones, more 4g coverage, and no data cap.

You can with some devices (pretty sure the iPhone is one of them). Regardless, they are the same technologies, just different bands of the spectrum.
I hated T-mobile, at leas the service we got sucked.
But At&t has not been much better.
You can with some devices (pretty sure the iPhone is one of them). Regardless, they are the same technologies, just different bands of the spectrum.
You can't flash the baseband, so you can't access T-Mobile's HSDPA+ service at 2100Mhz.
Even though T-Mobile was the cheapest choice, it was also the choice with the worst connection; at least, where I live. AT&T has the best (except inside of buildings, esp. at my school) and Verizon has the most consistent, but it's not nearly as fast and it's way more expensive. Oh, and Sprint just sucks in general.
Pick and choose, pick and choose :(
I am almost 60% sure that this is the kind of merger where the company stays almost exactly the same with few changes from the purchasing company
Like how AT&T and Cingular alternate every year over who buys each other out this time...
Dunno if this was mentioned, but does that mean AT&T will have decent chicks in their advertisements now?
Seeing as there are already so few major cell phone providers in the US, isn't this a bit dangerous to allow?
This is why I am switching to verizon. At&t has very shitty service, it's almost like a joke.
Believe it or not with AT&T I get great service when I'm in the middle of the woods, but I can barely get a single bar while on the bus.
I had T-Mobile and the service was shit. I've literally never had my phone have 0 service in a place where I expect it to since I made the switch to AT&T.
Well Tmo will be act indepdently even though its part of ATT , its just the the networks will merge so it will be faster
An agreement was announced under which AT&T will acquire T-Mobile USA. The agreement is the first step in a process that, including regulatory approvals, is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. Until then, we remain a separate company and continue to operate independently.
We know our customers, business partners and others may have many questions.
Here is some more information:
Will my service change?
There is no change in your service and we remain committed to ensuring you have the best experience possible experience using your T-Mobile USA products and services.
Will I now be billed by AT&T?
No, your billing remains exactly the same. T-Mobile USA continues to operate as an independent company. As always, you would receive advance notice to any changes to your services.
Why is T-Mobile USA doing this?
Bringing together these two world-class businesses will create significant benefits for customers. The merger will ensure the deployment of a robust 4G LTE network to 95% of the U.S. population, something neither company would achieve on its own. Also, because of our compatible networks and spectrum, the customers of T-Mobile USA and AT&T will experience improved voice and data service almost immediately after the networks are integrated.
Will T-Mobile USA’s quality be reduced?
No. In fact, the combination of AT&T and T-Mobile USA will offer an even stronger service to customers. Until the acquisition is closed, we will work hard to maintain our position as the value leader with America’s largest 4G network.
If the acquisition closes, will I still be able to use my T-Mobile USA phone?
Yes. Your T-Mobile USA device will operate the same in the future as it does today.
Should I wait to sign-up with T-Mobile USA or upgrade my phone?
No, T-Mobile USA offers the latest wireless devices that are affordable on America’s Largest 4G Network and the combination of AT&T and T-Mobile USA will mean even stronger service for our customers. Now is a great time to be a T-Mobile customer.
Is T-Mobile USA getting the iPhone?
T-Mobile USA remains an independent company. The acquisition is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. We do not offer the iPhone. We offer cutting edge devices like the Samsung Galaxy S 4G and coming soon our new Sidekick 4G.
Will my rate plan change because of the acquisition?
We will honor all contracted plans that are entered into before the change of ownership.

Hooray maybe some cool t-mobile phones will be available to me now
Good, hopefully AT&T's coverage stops sucking in my area.
Well, hopefully T-Mobile will stop sucking in my area.

Too bad I moved to Cricket because T-Mo sucked so much ass here. :frown:
