indie musician
What.
she's a minor indie musician who's last "hit" was in 1996 hardly a celebrity.
your overall point may be correct but her newest album is certainly a hit
your overall point may be correct but her newest album is certainly a hit
hm i guess it is based on the billboard performance. still calling her a celebrity is obviously trying to use it as an insult, and there's really no proof that she's an egotistical celebrity of any kind.

I just meant she was well-known, popular, and wealthy enough to likely suffer no long-term consequences from this.

well if you read it she accuses them of doing inappropriate things. we can't really say what happened for sure. all she said was that she overheard four people saying inappropriate and "probably illegal" things and that she would make them famous by revealing it; a threat by all means. i mean this is fiona apple a small piano-playing woman who looks anorexic. i'm guessing she's more than a little scared of going to jail.
who cares if shes a cunt or not dude, shes in trouble for smoking weed. not exactly something to cheer for
Well sorry for responding to what he said I guess I'll just be like you and make exaggerated and inaccurate comparisons all day
well if you read it she accuses them of doing inappropriate things. we can't really say what happened for sure. all she said was that she overheard four people saying inappropriate and "probably illegal" things and that she would make them famous by revealing it; a threat by all means. i mean this is fiona apple a small piano-playing woman who looks anorexic. i'm guessing she's more than a little scared of going to jail.
Yeah, I don't like that there doesn't seem to be any good information about what exactly the police did to upset her. It could be that they did nothing and she's just being childish, or it could just as easily be that they did some horrible shit and that she has a legitimate reason to be angry. And I already know what you're going to say to that last part, Kopimi.
You guys defend legalising a substance like a Christian extremist would defend the Bible. Is that so hard to understand? The dumbs support the analogy because neither of you accept any sort of criticism.
You're defending your dumb post the same way a Nazi would defend the Holocaust. I aspire to be as great of a poster as you one day.
Well sorry for responding to what he said I guess I'll just be like you and make exaggerated and inaccurate comparisons all day
the entire reason you're responding to him is to back up your point that she somehow deserved what happened to her because she broke the law and had an attitude with authority figures. nice zinger by the way you really nailed me, maybe you should do stand up comedy where even a drunk crowd will boo you off the stage [editline]27th September 2012[/editline]
Yeah, I don't like that there doesn't seem to be any good information about what exactly the police did to upset her.
the entire reason you're responding to him is to back up your point that she somehow deserved what happened to her because she broke the law
You mean being arrested? Yeah, that's kind of what happens when you knowingly break the law I can make a flow chart for you if you want.
literally had no response for this so i'm wondering wtf you're on about
Sorry, I expected a response about how being arrested for pot is a legitimate reason for being angry because weed should be legal from you.
You mean being arrested? Yeah, that's kind of what happens when you knowingly break the law I can make a flow chart for you if you want. Sorry, I expected a response about how being arrested for pot is a legitimate reason for being angry because weed should be legal from you.
oh sorry i guess i had taken for granted that somebody should be capable of recognizing being arrested on drug charges is fucking moronic i'll make sure to lower my standards for you in the future
The law in Nazi Germany was to turn in your Jewish neighbors. Basically this is the same thing. I'm being super serious FYI.

Would you be saying that if you lived in the middle east and the law was to cut off both her hands ?
You might as well strap "It's worse than hitler" on it They're incomparable, because no one is losing limbs or getting exterminated for owning an (unnecessarily) illegal drug. [editline]27th September 2012[/editline] It's literally just an arrest how can you even compare this to gassing someone?
Wait what the hell is going on in this thread someone explain please
Where did I say anything about cops only strictly following the law? Cops don't make law, they enforce the law. Which is correct. They can and should use discretion while enforcing the law, but this does not do away with the fact that if you want weed to become legal, you'll have to try and change the law, and not direct your anger at the police whom are only doing their job (saying she shouldn't have been arrested is blaming the police for doing their job, instead of blaming a law that should change).
well the police don't have to arrest people for it, over here most the time the police just take it off you even though technically you should be arrested.
death penalty america is no place for these dopefiends
"i cant smoke pot because i SEE things"
You mean being arrested? Yeah, that's kind of what happens when you knowingly break the law I can make a flow chart for you if you want.
if the law is unjust, is it amoral to break it?
So people are seriously saying that the police (who's job is to enforce the law) should let somebody break the law if they personally think the law is unjust? What if an officer doesn't see anything wrong with corporal punishment, in a place where beating kids is illegal. He witnesses a parent beating their child, but doesn't take it any further because in his mind the law is bullshit. Corporal punishment is good for kids in the long run and doesn't do any real harm. Or is weed an arbitrary special case?
how can you call it arbitrary when there's an actual difference i mean beating kids (a specific act of one person doing something against another) and smoking weed (something only the person does to themselves) are not even comparable lol
how can you call it arbitrary when there's an actual difference i mean beating kids (a specific act of one person doing something against another) and smoking weed (something only the person does to themselves) are not even comparable lol
The comparison is that both things are illegal in some places, both things divide opinion, both things have people who believe that they are somewhere in the range of beneficial to no harm. People in this thread are saying that a police officer should let somebody off of something that is against the law, because the law is stupid. What if the policeman is pro-corporal punishment and thinks that that law is stupid? The law should be changed, the police shouldn't make up their own laws based on personal preferences.
The law should be changed, the police shouldn't make up their own laws based on personal preferences.
well why didn't you just say that gosh the difference still isn't arbitrary.
There are a lot of "stupid laws" but they still are the law, like it or not and you are expected to follow the rules set by society or face the consequences. Look at this whole "doesnt affect anyone thing" The weed you just bought from the dealer costed you $50. The dealer now uses that $50 and combines it with his other $500 to buy a stolen gun That gun is then used to shoot someone. There you go. You buying that weed just killed someone. or lets look at it from the buyers view: You buy weed for $50 Thats $50 less then you had Thats one less tank of gas You committed a crime You then go and smoke it in a public place (but for personal use) Some child gets second-hand smoke The smoke from weed has been linked to MANY terrible things That weed you just bought just increased some kids chances of having a defect later in life (and your own). [editline]26th September 2012[/editline] She wont get anything even close to 10 years
lmao I don't even know what to say to you
to people saying 'the law is the law', well, jaywalking is against the law in some places and i guarantee almost all of you have done it, maybe we should come arrest you, the law is the law after all
to people saying 'the law is the law', well, jaywalking is against the law in some places and i guarantee almost all of you have done it, maybe we should come arrest you, the law is the law after all
The law isn't avoidable?! Golly gosh I wonder how everyone in the world isn't arrested yet! Oh...
Fiona is the apple of my eye. :-)
if the law is unjust, is it amoral to break it?
apparently, yes. despite the logical conclusion of any discussion of the state ever resulting in the opposite answer
if the law is unjust, is it amoral to break it?
no. laws do not dictate morals
Rusty Flemming: living proof that people who enforce these laws are complete and total dicks. Hopefully she gets out of jail okay. No one deserves to be in jail for ten years over possessing some fucking hash. Or any amount of time in jail, really.
if the law is unjust, is it amoral to break it?
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying she broke the law, so she got arrested. This isn't that hard to follow.
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying she broke the law, so she got arrested. This isn't that hard to follow.
Thanks, Captain Obvious, for this startling new revelation. Here I was thinking Rusty Flemming just had a boner for putting Indie artists in jail.
