You could say that about 7, or 8.
1. I love you for knowing this game
2. Works fine
the only game I ever had issues with is Blood 2 because its just a badly coded game/engine. Some people get it working on Win10, some people don't have it working on Win7, its a real crapshoot of luck that game.
Legit question who the fuck doesn't know about System Shock 2 other than strictly console gamers.
It's on every "top 10 horror" list, there's a SS1 reboot getting developed so news was written about that, iirc it was a big deal when they got added to Steam.
Even if you don't like SS it's hard not to know of its existence.

Not really, since they're pretty much done with 7 aside from telling you to upgrade like everyone else.
[editline]a[/editline]
I don't understand people who haven't just at least installed it on a virtual PC or something to test it out and see what's changed (spoiler: jack shit from 7 aside from the artstyle, menu options, and added features. Can't speak for 8 because I thought it was trash and have only ever used a PC with 8 on it three times. Once because my cousin had it on his laptop, another because I was setting up a new prebuilt for my brother and it was preinstalled and I immediately installed 10, and one last one because my girlfriend's sister hasn't upgraded)

Starting with vista they've had at least one update for each of their client os which made it non-bootable. This is not really a valid argument versus 10.

Yeah Microsoft breaking shit from updates happens all the time. It even happens with Windows Server. They pushed one out a couple months ago that breaks the DHCP Server entirely. It just crashes.
Only way you can truly avoid it is by never upgrading ever, but of course that leaves you vulnerable to numerous zero day, MITM, and just stupid exploits from the Windows 2000 days that they find every week. And bug fixes. I mean there was a privilege escalation kernel exploit due to bad handling of memory in Vista and up just a couple days ago.
I've had no compatibility issues going from Windows 7, anything that previously works still does.
Factually Untrue, debunked numerous times.
I don't use windows enough to want to spend the time to upgrade to an OS that will almost certainly just increase my chances of data loss
Are there tools to disable the telemetry bullshit?
yes but you cannot disable everything without using an Enterprise edition, which I highly recommend

Out of the stuff i've installed in this laptop, the only thing that has issues is my PS3 SCPToolkit driver, which for whatever reason requieres the driver to be reinstalled every time I want to use the DS3

Then apparently I'm also in the minority of not having a single issue with compatibility with Win7 stuff. I'm guessing a majority of the "issues" are lazy developers, not consumer products.
In fact, I've had exactly one issue with Win10 not working for a game. That game was from 2007. And was fixed by replacing a DLL in the game's folder.

Who the hell would use OneDrive? I seriously had a bunch of NSFW pics in my OneDrive storage (not intentionally and I never really used it at all but I knew they were there), one day out of boredom while exploring my user folder I checked it and all my other pics were there but the NSFW stuff was gone. Nothing else touched. Which means somewhere out there, there are Microsoft employees looking at their customers dick pics and shit. That's kind of fucked up.

The dealbreaker of W10 for me is the lack of update control and essentially turning your copy of windows to an OEM version.

What is a update test server? what is vitalisation scheming? what is update install planning?

I don't think you can debunk the fact that he hasn't had any compatibility issues (unless he's stated differently elsewhere). Personally I haven't had any compatibility issues on my laptop either, but sure, they probably exist.
I'm actually in the process of downgrading from Windows 7 all the way to Windows 98. I can't get an old game to run on my new PC, it doesn't run on my old Windows XP PC, and it also doesn't run in virtual machine. It turns out the XP one has drivers for 98, so I will try to turn it into a dual boot retro 98/XP machine, once I get another hard disk. Too bad my old CRT monitor broke.
Upgrading to W10 from 7 would basically mean reinstalling all of my programs and games, right? That's really the only thing holding me back. Too lazy for that.

If you upgrade, no. But upgrading is not guaranteed to work always as opposed to a clean install. If it doesn't work you can just revert though, so you won't lose anything by trying.

There's a revert option? Well I guess that's comforting.
Surprisingly enough I haven't really had any problems with older games. Red Alert 2 for example runs just fine.
Only game I did have issues with was GTA IV. Nothing I couldn't fix with five minutes on google and a bit of tweaking though. Seems to be related to GFWL ironically enough.
The only funky thing I've had was all of my DirectX 11 games going to 1080i.
There's a revert option? Well I guess that's comforting.
No, if the upgrade is successful you can't revert. If the upgrade process itself fails the system will restore itself, but once it's installed it's installed I believe.
If you've got storage you could make a system image before the upgrade, I imagine.
Do people know that you can revert back to Windows 7 within 30 days if you don't like it? Personally I think its fine, I've had no issues with my games and would recommend upgrading.
Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun both had broken menus for me. DirectDraw wizardry fixed it, though.
Has been broken for me since vista, windows 10 was the first to natively fixe it when run in XP sp2 compatibility mode for me.

I will still wait until just before 8.1 support completely ends. I do not care if I have to spend some money later, I just do not want to risk breaking anything until I really need to.

How do you revert the upgrade then? Honest question.
System restore?
How do you revert the upgrade then? Honest question.

open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.”
You should see a “Go back to Windows 7” or “Go back to Windows 8.1” option. Click the Get started button to get rid of your Windows 10 install and restore your previous Windows install. Microsoft will ask you why you want to go back but thats about it, then just wait.
If it fails you can sue them for a new computer apparently, there has been precedence.
Also how could that question not have been honest? what do you mean with that?

"Honest question" means that he isn't trying to be funny or sarcastic by asking that question.

I dont get it, how could that have been perceived as funny or sarcastic? im autistic so perhaps im missing something here

Imagine if the question was asked like this: "How would you do it then, huh?!" His actual phrasing is of course a lot more neutral, but because he is typing and not talking it could easily be interpreted as being said in a sarcastic tone, so he included "honest question" to ensure that anyone reading it wouldn't misinterpret him as trying to be sarcastic.

It means that I wish to set a tone of honesty in our continued exchange; I'm making clear I'm not trying to imply you're bullshitting and I expect you to not call me an idiot for admitting to not knowing.

Yes, thanks.
I feel this could also be a symptom of how online discourse has grown a tendency to completely lack nuance nowadays.
Can I have both Windows 7 and Windows 10 installed on my PC? I currently have my W7 installed on my SSD and I would love to keep it that way. So can I somehow get the free Windows 10 ugrade to my other hard drive or will that cause issues with the serial keys or something?
