Only non tech savvy people use Word anyway
Oooh I use Open Office I'm so edgy :allears: IT'S A WORD PROCESSOR
Let's see you doing w/o Windows.
I'm doing fine without Windows thank you.
Butt-hurt small company gets settlement of 30 million, gets bought up by Microsoft. [editline]07:09PM[/editline]
Let's see you doing w/o Windows.
http://www.reactos.org/
TEXAS - a shittyass state that Aurora93 happens to live in
So they can never make another program that allows the opening of certain types of documents? Wow, how stupid of the judge. Somebody needs to post a link to a download of the installer for the US to use and then send it to that judge. I would send it to the judge if I had the link, but sadly I only have Wordperfect, now MS Word.
I'm waiting for someone to Patent a method for interpreting objects by wave length and focal point then suing anyone with their eyes open.
Instead Pirating it is legal
How about they ban Numbers while they're at it.
xml patented? what?
You could always use open office
Open office uses xml too.
Open office uses xml too.
:downs:
:downs:
Am I missing something. [editline]02:36AM[/editline] I'm stating that it's ironic that only word got busted.
I live in canada. HAHAHAHAHAH
I never used Word anyway. But this is a shock. I'm still questioning "Why?". What the hell was the judge smoking?
What the christ, you Americans are taking it too far.
What the christ, you Americans are taking it too far.
That automated dumb rating was well-deserved.
Who gives a shit, it's microsoft we're talking here. You can always do without microsoft products. What, the world stops because we can't use their software? There's always Openoffice, or word perfect. There's probably dozens of text manipulation out there just waiting for us to pick it up. I think I won't lose any sleep over microsoft word being gone. Fuck it.
... way to overreact.
Looks like the inevitable has happened, MS has just filed an emergency appeal against the ruling: http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/08/17/microsoft-files-emergency-motion-in-word-vs-i4i-case Neowin says that this could drag out long enough for MS to get Office 2010 out the door before 2007 gets canned if the ruling stands.
The ruling has gained worldwide attention but many legal experts are saying that it's very unlikely Microsoft will have to stop selling Word altogether. The other issue with the lawsuit is that other companies also possess the same XML technology in a lot of their software - OpenOffice is a good example of this. Many legal and technical workarounds do exist, and Microsoft can begin a lengthy appeal process which would push out the 60 days to at least a year and a half - just enough time to get Office 2010 ready.
Heh. I read it as "Microsoft banned from selling the US."

Open office uses xml too.

:downs:

Hah, I knew I wasn't crazy.
The other issue with the lawsuit is that other companies also possess the same XML technology in a lot of their software - OpenOffice is a good example of this.
What's funny is the judge is actually a tech savvy person. Which just makes this all the more weird. [editline]12:10AM[/editline]
Heh. I read it as "Microsoft banned from selling the US."
Don't post on a forum if you've yet to master reading.
Don't post on a forum if you've yet to master reading.
K. :downs:
Some of us fucking USED MS word
I hope since they can't sell it, they make it Open Source :swoon:
How the hell could they patent XML markup of a textfile? In my book this would be a clear case of prior art as HTML could be used to form text documents. (Even though HTML isn't officially XML it has the same syntax as its SGML)
