This got to think of my lovely cat. She was pretty old, she was 16 I think. I still have feels, because she died the day before my 18th birthday, which is 2 years ago from now.
I wish my cats will live to be that old. As long as they're still happy, that is.
KITTY!
24? Wow, my pet cat only recently died a few months ago at 22. She also happened to be a tortoiseshell, wonder if they have better genetics for living longer.
My cat just died a few weeks ago and he was 22, it's funny that he looks a lot like the cat in the picture except with gray hair. I wonder if this one genetic line has an increased lifespan for whatever reason.

you can't really see his face in that picture but he really does look similar
Having older than average pets have its own problems. You see a bundle of love and energy turn into something that sleeps most of the day as having an active life becomes very tiresome.
my cat was almost 19 and was quite energetic up in tell the day she died, but she also had both a disease that makes you over active and hungry, and kidney failure which has the complete opposite symptoms. the two kind of canceled each other out and she didn't show any signs of being sick in tell her organs started failing.
because it gives as an apt tool for comparison instead of having to know the average life span of every animal in existence??
Still really pointless. If you're gonna talk about age, giving the average life span seems sensible.
You'd need to know the average life span to calculate the ratio one way or another.
And it's not like the "animal years" actually has any unique biologic significance. It's just a big number really.
My cat turned 21 a little while back, she's still running around and exploring shit
wait what, i thought the worlds oldest cat was much older.
my cat is 23 nearly 24 i oughta make some phonecalls
wait what, i thought the worlds oldest cat was much older.

Worlds oldest currently living cat. Oldest ever recorded was 38.
Wow, my cat was 22 before she died, my parents gave her to me.
I never understood the point in giving non-human animal ages like this. Just say 24 years (its actual age) and be done with it.
Daily mail readers can't grasp the concept without a quantified equivalent.
I never understood the point in giving non-human animal ages like this. Just say 24 years (its actual age) and be done with it.
because human years are something people can relate with
some people cant relate to anything human
there is a name for them i cant remember it tho
well if they can't relate to human years surely the animal number of 24 given would be fine???
i don't get it
wtf my friend had a cat who was 22 years old, didn't know he was this close to world record
The average human lives up to 85 years. And because cats have 9 lives, the maximum age of a cat in cat years would be 9*85=765 cat years. And that should translate to 187 years. But we all know how evil kneevel these felines and they constantly lose lives because of their super mario mentality.

the joke was autism
Had my cat since I was 4. Still acts like a kitten sometimes!

It's to help people relate to the age in a relative way.
My cat was 22 years old but there were no records of it because she was adopted from the pound.

114 years old isn't something most people can relate to.
24, now that's something we will all experience.
A person living to the age of 24 isn't news though, whereas a person living to 114 presumably would be.
My Auntie's cat lived until 23 a few years back. Holy shit.
[editline]20th May 2014[/editline]
(i'm an anomaly yay)
(also this isn't that rare booo)

It's easier to put things in perspective when it's related to you. That's what makes the 114 more astonishing.
My Cat turned 15 this year, She's almost up there

Oh shit, so my old childhood cat nearly beat a world record.
Old siamese that lived to 21 years old.
Okay, for an article about cats they really need to put some sort of warning before people scroll down the cute kitty pictures to see this:

Damn you daily mail, I was planning to sleep after reading this article!
See that doll she's holding, its saying something.
Its saying Get Out
We had to adopt our cat as a kitty because she was abused by students and was close to dying.
She got to 21 ;__;7
Jesus, the cat already looks like it's been taxidermied in the OP pic.
My cats are now 16 and still pretty healthy, I hope they live long too
