Russia introduces anonymous boxes in the street to dump babies in

What if someone forgets to empty it for a few weeks
I don't see how you guys can think this is a good idea. They should try solving their social problems in their living environments instead of making baby bins so that people keep doing it. Its like making suicide booths instead of solving the problem of increased suicides.
They have to deal with the issue yeah, but you have to start somewhere. Like it or not people will abandon babies, this just reduces harm.
Its a small article and I hope something is been done to prevent these being used.

Its literally part of the childrens' charity.
This should be used in China.
Except they would either be sent to some kind of sweat shop or immediately disposed of.
We had these boxes at the entrance of every hospital for like 10 or 15 years here.
this is appropriate because it's russia
What happens if all the baby boxes are full? Oh god what if they start overflowing?
It looks like a sodding oven. Nice idea though.
I thought it looked like a dish washer.

Unfortunately, you can't make people take care of their kids, just like you really stop someone from committing suicide. This is an option to save the life of an infant who would otherwise live a miserable life, or worse, be abandoned somewhere where it wouldn't stand a chance.
I half imagine the back to slide open to reveal a large chute which sends the baby down into a pile of abandoned babies which are randomly thrown at couples seeking to adopt.
or its an incinerator

Get a contortionist to go in it. Imagine the surprise when they open it up.
Oh good, now all the Pedophiles can easily find lone babies.
what if there's already a baby in there? that would be awkward
Oh good, now all the Pedophiles can easily find lone babies.
I think the idea is that, it's left open when empty, then when someone put a baby in they close it and once it's closed, you can only unlock it with a key, which only the proper authorities would have

Damn, that puts a damper on my "hey I want a baby and there's already a baby here I'M GOING TO ADOPT IT" idea.
Still, this is better than bins.
knee jerk reaction was "fucking wow what kind of disgusting bullshit", but honestly it seems like a good solution
if people are going to be throwing away their unwanted kids it seems a lot better to have a safe, sanitary place for them to be dropped off, where they can be safely taken care of by the government, put into adoption programs etc..
seems like a good idea
So is there any information on these 'boxes'? Is it really just a box with a oventype door?
IMO if they're going to implement these they need some sort of sensor that detects if there is a baby in it so it can alert someone to pick it up.
Maybe it could have a video camera and if something is left it could alert someone who could then see and maybe lock the box until an official picks it up?
A good idea though and much better than a baby being left in the trash.
let them sell their babies!
I laughed hysterically when I saw the title, but now I feel absolutely terrible...

They'll find a way to cut it open. Probably with a blowtorch.

fitting avatar
I also just noticed:
Why is their a high voltage sign right next to the box?

Late, dammit.
what if multiple people need to deposit babies? one drops it in and another has to find another oven to put it in
I'm positive these boxes have occupancy sensors connected to an autodialer.
I can think of so many jokes and Soviet Russia puns right now...

Because teenage and/or poor mothers who don't have the money to raise their child should totally not allow it the opportunity to be raised by a family who can support them. Great logic there.

Take away babies..Oh god.

I never said that or even meant that. Stop being so overly defensive over boxes for babies.
Still sad, but better than ditching the baby in an even more dangerous place.
I can imagine people setting up camp near these things and launching assaults on the people leaving their unwanted children there.

I'd imagine people against it would just go around closing them all the time.
Take away babies..Oh god.
it's like leave a penny take a penny
but with babies
Cool, glad they are moving in the right direction.
