If Argentina seriously wanted the islands, they would attempt to colonize it and send Argentinians there to live until they out numbered the Englishmen.
Nonsense, we shouldn't have to do anything!
It's our islands and we're gonna keep yelling so until everyone admits we're right!
They're not even particularly close to Argentina when you get down to it.
The only Argentinian thing on the Falklands are the illegal landmines they left behind. If the people on the Falklands want to stay with the UK, they should be able to.
You say "illegal landmines" I say "best protected wildlife preserve ever"
Why doesn't Argentina just send 3000 settlers if they want it that bad. Then they would have majority and thus win referendum?
But then they'd have to find 3,000 Argentinians willing to move there
I think its a politicial scapegoat, a successful scapegoat because it drives on nationalism.
The first thing you learn in Argentinian history class is how the evil british stole the falklands.
And people believe it.
" The first reliable sighting is usually attributed to the Dutch explorer Sebald de Weert in 1600, who named the archipelago the Sebald Islands, a name they bore on Dutch maps into the 19th century.[17]"

You know what that means, Dutchmen of Facepunch! You have the strongest claim!
I think I now know the place for the next Dutch FP meeting. Now I'm off to the Israeli Embassy to ask for some advice.

Sometimes you get a penguin that's heavy enough to set them off, or a couple huddiling together over a mine. You can sometimes hear the distant sound of a mine going off as a result.
I'm being serious here.
But yeah, the army tries to remove the mines now and then, but because the Argies broke the Geneva convention and removed a foil strip that allows them to be detected via metal detectors, it's a lot more hazardous than is really worth it.

Or is it still a huge expense even then?
If you actually call them the Falklands in Argentina they get all butthurt and shit. Argentina has been dead set on believing the Falklands are theirs for a long time.
This is exactly why I hate this country and I hate myself for ever being born here
Please take me away to the magical UK or the US please
And yet if the islanders were in favour of argentina, Argentina would be all "omg you guise this is so important so listen"
Okay for everyone.
The Argentines take their claim from the Spanish colonies (Formerly French colonies) when the Argentinan Revolution occurred they took the Falklands colonies with them from Spain.
The Argentines lost their colonies and control of the islands after a Dutch colonist set up on the island with permission but he seized American ships.
Such behaviour was not permissible so Britain re-established sovereignty and so it has remained from 1833 until 1982 when the Argentinians occupied the Falklands.
British control was re-established from 1982 to present.
This will be helpful to some: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkland_Islands_sovereignty_dispute
Whatever happens, I hope Britain keeps Falkland Islands. Just because the islands are next to the piece of shit called Argentina doesn't mean they get to have them. One day, I hope Britain takes over Argentina so this dispute would end.
Argentina is being a kettle.
Argentina are just using it as a smokscreen for their much bigger problems. If Britain were to give them the islands, they'd come up with a reason not to just so they can keep complaining about it.
The spanish do the same with Gibraltar. A riot in Madrid? Lets send the Guardie De Civil (Military Police) to enter our waters and cause a stir to take away attention from their problems.

Nationalists in Quebec are never as loud as when there are serious problems in Canada, whether we know about them yet or not. It helps to blunt the blow of whatever is coming next.
Currently, you must have gone to English school in Quebec or another province to be able to send your kids to English school. Immigrants from other countries must send their kids to French school. Lately the Parti Quebecois (governing party of Quebec) wants to implement a new Bill decreasing the ability to access English schools which is, as you see, already restricted. This immediately brought red flags to mind: what the fuck did they do that made them feel it would be better to bring this dead issue back to life?
