It's not really philosophical. War is a pretty nasty thing and avoiding it is certainly a victory.

Iceland doesn't.
Unless you count those few guys who did swordplay with their guts hanging out. Should've shipped those guys off to war.

To be fair Britain is an Island nation pretty far from Germany, wheras poland is right fucking next door.
And Marines can knock the Navy all they like, afterall, without sailors the glorious USMC would be paddling to their next warzone.

Isn't the English Channel something like just 20 miles wide? Not much of a distance.

Hey, my dad was on the Iowa. Oddly, something similar happened to it. During a training exercise one of the guns exploded.

Could of used paratroopers. Only reason Hitler didn't was because it ended horribly with Crete, so he (idiotically) assumed one failed attempt automatically means all the attemps will fail.

Apparently an accidental discharge of all of 3 rounds equals an attack on multiple Polish ports.

Oh shit, I never realized "port" was pluralized
It was only three rounds and they labeled it as an attack on a Polish port. What the fuck, and now we have idiots speculating WW3 in the future.

You're tough meat.
The British didn't do shit in the war, besides helping out in north africa and letting their land to be used as a base of operations. They even planned to sign pacts with the Germans. Pathetic.
Most of the Allied war effort was done by the Soviets and USA.
And if you consider the odds the Polish were going up against (attacks by the soviets and nazis at once from pretty much all sides with far superior numbers) a week isn't bad at all.
Also the Polish Armed Forces actually held out for most of the war but they became underground movements coordinated by a whole secret command chain.
Not to mention it was the biggest resistance movement in Europe (If not the world) at the time, and the only one to actually manufacture equipment and vehicles.
Shame a lot of people are so uneducated on the topic and dismiss the Polish contributions to the war effort (such as our efforts in the liberation of Denmark and Italy. They won battles deemed previously impossible to win such as the battle of Monte Cassino http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Monte_Cassino)
Such is the ignorance of the people of the west.

considering they were going to invade britain in a very d-day style fashion if they could gain air superiority, you could say that the Germans were planning to blitz across water. only reason why they didnt is because they couldnt beat us in the air so instead put Operation Sealion on hold and initiated Operation Barbarossa.
I'd just like to point out that the British channel protected us from Blitzkrieg.
Saying we lasted the entire war because we had a better army is stupid. Just to point out, the British Expeditionary Force (Our best equipped and trained army at the time) lost horribly to the German war machine and our lines collapsed inside of a fortnight ending in the massacre/retreat from Dunkirk.
If Britian was connected to Europe by land we would have met the same fate as Poland did, the German combat doctrine was more advanced and based on mechanised mobility and infantry while we were prepared and equipped for infantry only trench warfare. They outmanuevered and surrounded our army forcing us to surrender large amounts of materials and ground.
One of the fundamental aspects of Blitzkrieg and the reason why it was so effective is because it made use of mechanized infantry supporting heavy armour.
Hitler couldn't send infantry because of shitty English weather (lol) which made the seas too rough to transport troops.
They tried bombing Urban population centers to demoralise the populace and force surrender, but the Dunkirk spirit is what let us hold on.
English involvement in the war was very limited until America joined the fight on our side. (Especially after the BEF got pwnd) They provided us with modern armour and weaponry that let us form new armies to fight. And our involvement in North Africa was also mainly special forces/SAS sabotage until the US-assisted campaigns began.
Frankly if America hadn't stepped we would have lost. And the USA and England all lived happily
ever after.
The End

British lead the invasion of Italy.
The Soviet Union wasn't in the Allies.
Also, what if the French hadn't built the Maginot Line?
They wouldn't survive as long as they did. Possibly getting annexed in 1939-1940.
France is underrated in WW2.
And by lead i meant they had the idea, they wanted to open up 4-5 fronts in the invasion.
