sad fact is that you can't keep pumping out the same stuff and expect to stay afloat. a massively unpopular opinion a few years ago but now it seems like even nintendo fanboys are starting to admit it what happened to the ambition?
They've been pumping out a lot of the same shit after the N64 came around, Wii brought some new ideas but after that meh. Honestly, hope they won't blend handheld and console gaming because I only imagine it will bring more shovelware and cash grabs to the table while most gaming will happen on Xbone or PS4
Pumping out endless amounts of the same ip is the industry trend now, but I guess Nintendo has been doing it the longest, with some originals in between.
It may be true that they aren't generating enough revenue, but as a personal opinion, no Sony or Microsoft exclusive franchise will ever have enough charisma to match some franchises like Star Fox or Metroid. It's sad that they aren't getting enough money for their new titles, but holy shit I find them way superior than boring third party titles. Star Fox Zero, which launched recently, is out of this world. Nintendo does need to catch up with some things, though. Online functionality in their games being a priority. SFZ doesn't even have an online ranking, come on.
I'd like to see the eShop and online features from Nintendo stay free, but I grow with ever increasing concern they are looking at PS+ and Xbox Live and seeing dollar signs. I always wondered if this was one of the features people considered Nintendo to be "behind the times" in, as I think they have other problems they should be tackling instead of making you pay for your internet twice.
I hope not, I'm sure as hell not getting a console where you have to pay for online features. Seriously, fuck that. Never gonna do that. Although one of Nintendo's things that is both is their strength and weakness is how they are very, very stubborn. They can come with some really interesting and fun ideas thanks to it, or a big amount of fanservice when they feel like it (think of stuff like the Smash Ballot, or funding Bayonetta 2), yet sometimes they can really screw it up big in that regard. (Paper Mario series getting wasted with stupid gimmicks, Metroid: Federation Force's artstyle and how they chose to promote it)
You know they may not make as much money as the others or even be with the times hardware wise but I have to give it to nintendo for always trying new things. Even if they are gimmick or not the best because eventually it will lead to something amazing rather than just sticking with the status quo. Though I'd assume most of it is because of PSplus that gets that kind of money in which I don't agree with the fact you need it for multiplayer as what I pay for when I buy it should cover all of that. Now for extra stuff that's fine.

And of course the gigantic elephante inflagrante, Massah Cheefs has probably sold a couple copies of his game series a time or two.

With Sony and MS have both had their runs of great things from Halo to Final fantasy(even though FF is more or less different each time). However, they do manage to have new games and franchises that come along and mix things up.

The Xbox's main system sellers are what? Halo 5 and Forza 6. Get real. Just those titles say it all. "Pumping out the same stuff" is basically industry standard for everyone at this point. Nintendo is just doing SO many others things wrong.

Meanwhile during gen 8 Nintendo released Splatoon and Wonderful 101 which were brand new IPs released to critical claim and high fan praise. They create lots of sequels but not any more than Sony or Microsoft, and they've experimented with brand new properties too. Nintendo's difficulties lie in other areas. You can't seriously tell me they aren't trying to innovate when that's all they've been known for since the Wii came out.
Nintendo only published Wonderful 101, it was developed by Platinum Games.
I'm aware of that. I only stated they 'released' it, not that they developed it. The point is that it was a new IP made out of Nintendo and Platinum's new relationship.
that's because phones will just, naturally outnumber pocket consoles by default they aren't nearly as powerful however, as a dedicated gaming system
Pretty sure most phones are way more powerful than the new 3DS these days. The reason you'd buy a handheld console is better controls and the game library.

i hope they got there shit with nx because i don't think they can handle a 2nd wii u
i hope they got there shit with nx because i don't think they can handle a 2nd wii u
It might be successful if they actually advertise the damn thing. Many people here still don't know what the Wii U is.
The kinect spying shenanigans probably drove off a lot of potential customers.
I think it was a combination of that, the need for an online connection every 24 hours, and no used games support.
It might be successful if they actually advertise the damn thing. Many people here still don't know what the Wii U is.
yea, one of it's many downfalls was the fact that people thought it was an add on to the wii
Whoever thought the Wii brand was worth continuing certainly did cost Nintendo quite a bit of money. Then again, nobody seems to be very good at naming things anymore.
The DS is selling like hotcakes and ~nintendo is behind the times~. I agree, Sony, who charges for PSN yet doesn't actually host the game servers, aren't the ones behind the times.
Nintendo is a bit slow. As evident with them discovering the internet just recently and thinking that all these one-man teams creating mods or remakes are their "competitors". Nintendo is not the worst company ever. But they're pretty shit.
I can't wrap my head around Sony Playstation lately, it seems like one month they're ready to declare bankrupt, and then the next month they're making more money than ever.
How's that different than Microsoft? The Xbox's main system sellers are what? Halo 5 and Forza 6. Get real. Just those titles say it all.
yeah and i wonder why sales of the ps4 are double that of the xbone and wiiu. at least the xbone can fall back on current gen games to sell a few systems
Because its the cheapest Fifa/Cod machine
Because Sony decided to put Everything entertainment related into the Playstation network brand PS Vue (TV subscription service) PS Music (Spotify/Google Music Clone) And PS Plus charging people 50$/year so of course its making money
I wonder how those figures would look compared to how much money each company has used as well.

If anything Nintendo is too hellbent on innovation and are only doing something new for the sake of doing something new.

Sony's making more money but as far as I know, aren't Nintendo's overheads significantly smaller?
