A Texas-based theater chain has banned Madonna after the pop star was apparently admonished for rudely texting during a premiere screening.
Madonna was reportedly texting up a storm while attending the New York Film Festival premiere of 12 Years A Slave last week and reacted in a rather spectacularly annoyed manner when asked to stop (‘It’s for business … enslaver!”).
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain has long had a strict no-talking and anti-texting policy for its theaters, and will eject any patron that violates the policy. So when word of the incident reached Alamo founder and CEO Tim League, he tweeted (below) that Madonna would no longer be welcome at the chain until she “apologizes to movie fans.”
Asked by EW if he was serious about the ban — at one point while defending his stance on Twitter he had called it a joke — League replied late Saturday, “Yeah, I’m serious, but I don’t think it really affects her life that much.”
Good riddance!
I knew from reading the title it was going to be this cinema. Their policy in my opinion is fantastic, wish a cinema would adopt it over here.

whats so bad about texting in a theater?
whats so bad about texting in a theater?
Its distracting. When the lights are off and the only thing thats illuminated is the screen its easy for your eyes to focus on the other only bright thing in the darkness.

Phone screens are fucking bright, that's what.

i never got distracted by people pulling their cells, i didn't even knew people could get lol, its such a weak light.

It's distracting. The lights, the typing, the sounds (for the really big assholes who can't find the damn mute button).
If I'm paying $10 to see a movie and another $10+ for food and drink, I want to get my moneys worth. That includes no whining babies, no texting timmies and no talking tammies. If I wanted to be annoyed by people I'd go to Wal-mart.

are there people who also get annoyed by popcorn munching noises? i mean, seems a bit overkill lol
You know, at times I really think movie theatres should build the dome.

this is in my opinion the most amusing thing about it all. :v:

Christ, $10?
I guess the theaters I go to are really expensive.
Or I just eat a lot. Hmm.
But I agree, movies are dark and closed on purpose. Other noises and bright lights just ruin the movie for me. I just can't pay attention to the film.

You must of never sat next to someone who has their brightness all the way up all the time, or use one of those ridiculously bright book lights.

Its suppose to be a luxury experience, not a community center. If you dont want to watch a movie like the other 98% of the people around you, leave.

imagine you're watching something, its a serious scene, all of the sudden you hear a noise.

and then a bright light appears and is incredibly distracting with its accompanying sound of

then how do you react to people eating popcorn, it also makes noises, plus most have the decency to mute their cells at least.

But the screen isn't always bright like that. Scenes with low light exist.
But the screen isn't always bright like that. Scenes with low light exist.
even then, it still seems a bit like an overreaction.
also thanks to that oatmeal comic i googled to see if there are those who really get pissed at others going to the bathroom, and welp, they exist :v: apparently they don't have an bowel or bladder
even then, it still seems a bit like an overreaction.
How is it an overreaction to expect people to put their phones away during a film? It seems like you have had real good luck with people in theaters or have shitty peripheral vision.
Phone screens are fucking bright, that's what.
I guess the average cell phone user doesn't know shit about brightness settings and volume settings. I make sure I don't disturb a soul if I need to pull my phone out. I'd hate doing so just because I paid money to watch the movie, not text and socialize.

i think its an overreaction to get THAT bothered by it, but whatever, then again i don't really get why people would text inside a theater to begin with.

have you ever seen a movie outside of your home, I think the picture you posted is only valid when the screen is covered in nothing but white and yeah I guess people eating popcorn is annoying, so that means its ok to use your phone now? I dont see what it has to do with anything.

I've been in 4 different cinemas in my life and the screen's light distance has never been so far that I could see my own hands. This is obviously an edit for advertisement just to be able to see the customer, because why would people want to see a complete black image of nothing?

not really, some cinemas in brazil at least are like that(some tend to be darker through).
btw i've been to theaters since i was a small kid so... lol
popcorn isn't too loud, usually, every once in awhile theres one guy who still hadn't figured out that you eat food with your mouth shut.

That picture is a gross overestimation of the light emitted by movie screens.
Popcorn is expected, and the sound of munching is greatly diminished by your mouth. Its a helluva lot quieter than it sounds in your head.
and yeah, most. Not all.

You and just about every other kid in any civilized country bub.

No, you can have it on vibrate and shit, and yeah, we don't mind if you look at it from time to time in case there's an emergency, just cover the screen a bit and hold it close your body to minimize the brightness for those behind and around you.
Here's an examples of what is and what isn't acceptable.
Your friend texts you asking if you wanna hang out, put it away, don't even reply, they can wait.
Your dad texts you saying your grandmother is in the hospital and "this is it", send "omw" and go, life happens, no one should fault you for that.
Ones being a inconsiderate prick, the other is being a responsible adult, this isn't rocket science.
are there people who also get annoyed by popcorn munching noises? i mean, seems a bit overkill lol
You can cancel out the noise of popcorn-eating by eating it during loud or intense scenes in the movie and it won't bother anyone. An annoying as fuck bright light even 3 seats away from you instantly takes your eyes off the screen, if only to look towards the asshole that didn't have the decency turn his fucking phone off like everyone else.

thats mostly true, i met several people who never been to theaters. :v: , they tend to be a bit old through.
