i didn't realize going to the movies was so serious for some people
It wouldn't be quite as much of an issue if a ticket didn't cost at least $11, but really it comes down to this: When I go to the movie theater, I go there to watch the movie. It's not for socialization, it's not for discussion, it's for watching a film. Go with your friends, enjoy your snacks, discuss the movie after, but please shut off your cell phone and keep your attention on the screen. It's really not that hard. If you're going to spend that kind of money, why would you want to take away from it by being on your phone?
i agree that people on phones should be kicked out, but this guy has nailed it
guys facepunchers are really sensitive its best to stop arguing and let them be angry at people in peace
I work at a movie theater on the weekends and when we have people txting, we just give them 3 warning and we stay in the theater for awhile. After that we kick them out.
Most smaller theatres are really great, in my experience. Seeing indie flicks and foreign films with subtitles probably has something to do with it; whenever I see something like that everyone's quiet and respectful. If I end up seeing something like Transformers or whatever, there are a lot more annoying people.
One time some people got pissed at me for using the restroom too much, but the theater was only half full and they chose to sit in front of me while I was the first in the theater. I think people take movies a little too seriously.

It might be a more casual affair than going to a play or something, but you're still going to see a performance. By hopping on your phone, talking with your friends, eating too loudly, or getting up too often, you're detracting from others enjoyment of the movie that they paid to see. I don't think it's too unreasonable to ask or even demand that patrons resist the impulse to check their phone or chat with their buddies for a couple hours; it's really not that hard.
If I get a text, I'm sure as hell answering it. (Unless I know I don't have anyhting important going on at the time, in which case, I ignore them because it's just social things most likely.) [sp]And since I'm not a CUNT I preemptively turn brightness down to minimum, set it to vibrate, and try to cover the screen if I'm wearing a hoodie or something.[/sp]
Just don't take your phone out during a movie. If you 18 or older, you should fucking know this.
good fucking riddance just because you're a celebrity shouldn't grant you more rights than everyone else [editline]16th October 2013[/editline] besides why the fuck would you go to a movie theater to look at your phone?
i dunno, i personally have a habit of giving every movie I watch the full MST3K treatment i'm at least nice enough not to distract people with it though.
Man what I wouldn't give to have a theatre with rules like Alamo Drafthouse here. People are so fucking annoying here. One dude next to me kept talking on his phone and almost ruined pacific rim for me.
Nutshell: Also .. for the love of god and mankind .. KEEP your smelly feet down from the nearby seat. If you disagree with the policy, you're an egotist/self-centered person and shouldn't be allowed at a theater.
