btw, just a small question, all the attachments on the rifle of soldiers, do they choose what they get? Or they buy it? Or the army give specific scopes and attachments? Some guns have acogs, some have elcans.
sort of on what you're saying, that's a specter, not an eclan i think

The ELCAN is a strange situation. It's not officially issue, but the Army has small number of them that have found their way to some line units. A different version of the ELCAN C79, called the M145 is officially issued for use on M240s and M249s. Other than that, yes some units buy equipment including optics themselves when they can't get what they need through official channels.
Right on, 7.62 all the way. Battle Rifles are kickin' rad. The 5.56 version was stupid, just use an M4/M16.

Certain designated marksmen or squad gunners in the Army will be issued Trijicon ACOGs. Most of Marines nowadays are issued ACOGs anyway.
lol, as if that's a bad thing 700+ military installations in ~135 countries
I'm not even going to say anything. Just let that be it, that will learn you.
It was originally going to be pitted against the SCAR. But parts didn't arrive on time. I've heard tell of one of the larger companies intentionally causing the delay, but so far no supporting evidence. Anyhow as a special operations rifle the ability to switch to 7.62x39 is a huge bonus. It means you can use the enemy ammunition without leaving evidence that western forces were there and without being forced to use a rifle you are less familiar with. The 6.8 and 6.5 came later for the civilian market.
Fuck yea, Another XCR owner, I love mine as well Why the fuck are media tags not working
HK>FN :colbert:
Seriously? Fuck H und K and their ridiculously over priced brand prestige weapons.

Or is it only in games? Damn gunfox, congrats on banning so fast!
Do the US use EOtech sights as well? Or is it only in games? Damn gunfox, congrats on banning so fast!
Yep, they do. But until recently the US Military hadn't officially adopted it, and it was usually bought out of a soldier's own pocket. Now it's adopted under the designation SU-231/PEQ, but it's still not standard issue. I'm not sure how it's procured, I imagine a unit issues a request/need for them up the line.

They're not issued, per se, but they are allowed to be used by soldiers who want to fork out $600 for one.
That's fair enough, but when it's supposed to be replacing the weapons of front-line units it's not very useful.
That's fair enough, but when it's supposed to be replacing the weapons of front-line units it's not very useful.
We're talking about the SCAR and special forces rifles.
Can the SCAR-H still take FAL magazines? Not sure how you would rock it with that kind of well though.
I don't understand why we need a replacement for the M4 or M16, or any new ARs for that matter, we're fighting people with AKs from the 80s or earlier, and our infantry arms are more or less equal to the rest of the world's.
We're talking about the SCAR and special forces rifles.
The SCAR competition was to find a replacement for the AR-15 platform weapons if I'm not mistaken. Edit: Also the wikipedia article on the FN SCAR says that "a battalion of the US 75th Ranger Regiment was the first large unit deployed into combat with 600 of the rifles in 2009." As far as Special forces equipment goes, I do agree that the XCR would be a good choice.
They really need to replace the M-16. I've never used it, but compared to the durability of the Kalashnikov it's almost worthless if it's even somewhat dirty from what I've heard. You could run the Kalashnikov over with a tank and it would still run. It'll probably be around for a long time, a lot longer than the M-16, that's for sure.

The goal was to find a replacement of the AR-15 platform for special forces. SCAR == Special forces Combat Assault Rifle

The rear sight placement makes it damn near impossible to aim properly at long range.
Ahah. I see now. I thought Rangers were another branch of the US Army rather than an actual special force.
Yeah the rangers are weird. They operate in squads much larger than normal special operations.
AR carbines w/ MOE Gear are the best looking.
I've got to say I prefer the TAR-21 in terms of looks over any other rifle.
