Breaking news: EA is run by a bunch of hypocrites. More at 11.
This makes no sense at all, there's nothing inherently wrong with social/multiplayer/online play, and if all you want to do is "play a game", then you shouldn't be buying games that have features that you somehow have managed to hate without even trying them just because of their connectivity.
The Wii u is a major console, like it or not. And, as much as it may cause you to sleep, there are people out there that like single player " experiences". For a developer to exclude single player as an option, and dismiss an entire console because they can't ram their horrible policies onto it, is completely backwards. I'd absolutely love to play sim city, for instance, but my internet isn't reliable enough to keep up w/ the the always online nonsense. EA has thrown away much of its own business with these practices.
The Wii u is a major console, like it or not.
no it's not face it, EA are only saying this because they don't want to say what they're thinking, which is that it just doesn't make sense to make wiiu games because they're not profitable enough
no it's not
In your opinion it may not be, but it is.
I don't care for consoles. They're underpowered, especially the Wii U.
I hope EA isn't wondering anymore why they got voted to be the worst company.
I agree with EA, honestly, the only reason that I would get a Wii U is because of ZombiU. Now, before you bomb me with "dumb", realize I'm the kind of player who HATES singleplayer, and buy every game that has a multiplayer function on it. WiiU is not very "Online-Like"
I suspect EA approached Nintendo with a publishing deal (sort of like the Xbox One "DRM") and they refused.
I suspect EA approached Nintendo with a publishing deal (sort of like the Xbox One "DRM") and they refused.
That is the rumor that went around last August.
I suspect EA approached Nintendo with a publishing deal (sort of like the Xbox One "DRM") and they refused.
Rumor has it EA wanted Origin to be part of Nintendo's online service. Which according to some people would make it an "Origin Console" or something. Nintendo said no, EA got mad.
Anything with the word rumour in it should be disregarded, we all know how video game news likes to sensationalize random people's bullshit to make ad revenue.

It's less matchmaking and more community based with the Miiverse.

Their story is that the WiiU is a piece of shit that nobody wants. They're going to be LOSING money to develop a game for the WiiU. Even if they did make something off of it, they'd only make enough to feel a single family off the dollar menu for a week.

Ubisoft didn't even make much profit from the ZombiiU. Granted it was a shit game but still goes to show that a shit game on the Xbox or PS3 will make more money than a shit game on the WiiU. [editline]8th July 2013[/editline]
Because developing the game for the PS2 is easier than porting to the Wii U. :V:
There's still a large player base composed of more poorer people who still own PS2's who own it simply to play sports games, mainly FIFA.

Granted it was a shit game but still goes to show that a shit game on the Xbox or PS3 will make more money than a shit game on the WiiU.
Bad comparison. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are both well established with a large user base. If those consoles get a shit game it's obvious it will sell more compared to a new under advertised console. Zombi U wasn't a shit game, yeah it was unpolished but it wasn't all that bad. The Wii U had a very poor launch so of course it will have poor sales, and it doesn't help that some stores basically gave it away in a bundle with the Pro variation of the Wii U. The system was announced and then nothing happened until well after it launched and had a short lived tv ad campaign showing only three games, two of which weren't going to be launched for a few months after the system's launch.
Still does not stop the fact that EA does not want to lose money developing for a console that does not have enough of a userbase.
Then they should stop beating around the bush and be like Ubisoft. Man up and admit they won't make much of a profit developing games for the Wii U and will hold off developing games until it gets a larger user base. But the big difference here is that Ubisoft is still going to be making Wii U games but just not as many as they will be for the other two consoles and none of them will be exclusives.

Is there any proof that Wii U games fail to bring in a profit for their publishers? It seems to be a huge generalized claim, but I haven't seen any statistics that claim Wii U games literally do not make money.

They do sell, but not enough compared to the 360 and PS3. It is usually public for everyone to see.
In your opinion it may not be, but it is.
But it's not, my opinion doesn't even come into it. ZombiU, one of the most prolific WiiU launch titles, apparently didn't even come close to being profitable. That's pretty sad shit. ZombiU, one of the most popular launch titles for the system with players, was not profitable, he says. Not even close. As such, he says, there are no plans (or even desire) for a sequel.
It looks like it's going to be a horrible circle. No one wants to develop for the Wii U because there's too small of a user base. No one wants to buy a Wii U because there's too little developer support. Etc

Just because it had a rocky launch it isn't automatically disqualified from being one of the three consoles for the upcoming generation.

[editline]8th July 2013[/editline] Also btw this isn't my opinion; I don't give a shit about sony nintendo or microsoft's consoles because they haven't given me a reason to be interested. This is just using the facts I've seen in the news, and from those facts I have deduced that the WiiU is a joke. I don't want it to be a joke because competition is good for the consumer, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a joke.
'it's made by nintendo, that's got to mean it's relevant and a major player in the next console generation'.
If I was a completely blinded fanboy I would say something like that, lol. But I realize the current situation for the Wii U is not a good one. It does have potential but I don't think anyone, including Nintendo, knows how to take advantage of what the system offers. What I'm saying is that in this generation, much like the last two, there are three consoles for everyone to pick from. Some people are quickly dismissing the Wii U over it's poor, which is understandable but at least give it a chance to get on it's feet and have some actual games before judging it. And from I can tell people are waiting for the first party Nintendo games to get a Wii U or plan on getting one when it's cheaper as a companion console once they get their shiny PS4 or Xbox One.

But the Wii had something that made it stand out which was the controller. It worked and I think Nintendo expected the Gamepad to do the same thing for the Wii U, which it could of if they properly advertised it. The Wii U is definitely underpowered compared to the PS4 and Xbox One. Some developers will be able to make the best of what Nintendo is giving them to work with, but sadly those developers will most likely be Nintendo themselves and second party developers. Third party games will end up being half assed ports like the ones we saw at launch, shovelware, or just not exist at all. But as a Wii U owner I have to admit the Gamepad is pretty cool. Every game I own except Zombi U allows the game to be played on the Gamepad's screen. It's pretty nice being able to play full console games like Black Ops 2 multiplayer, Monster Hunter 3, Resident Evil, or Super Mario Bros when sitting in bed or watching something on TV. [editline]8th July 2013[/editline]
ouya
I forgot that thing existed.
