They are heard saying that the UN personnel would not be released until forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad withdrew from the village of Jamla in the area.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Armed fighters linked to the Syrian opposition detained 21 U.N. peacekeepers Wednesday in the increasingly volatile zone separating Israeli and Syrian troops on the Golan Heights, a new escalation in the spillover of Syria's civil war. The U.N. Security Council demanded their immediate and unconditional release. The capture comes a week after the announcement that a member of the peacekeeping force is missing. The force, known as UNDOF, was established in 1974 following the 1973 Yom Kippur war to monitor the disengagement of Israeli and Syrian forces and maintain a cease-fire.
http://news.yahoo.com/un-says-21-peacekeepers-detained-golan-heights-215417313.html
The fuck is their end game in this? Threatening the enemy of your enemy isn't going to make him back down. This is the reason we shouldn't be supporting either side. Just hope those Peacekeepers get out of there somehow.
Looks like they didn't think this one through.
What a bunch of retards.
I'm really hoping this is one of those dumb-fuck groups of insurgents within the larger movement ruining it for the rest of the cause. If not, fuck all of them. Let their crazy oppressive enemies gas them all to shit cause we tried helping and they don't seem to want it.
Just when I thought the Rebels were decent chaps, they pull this shit. I guess it was naive of me to think they were all organised and relatively sane. I don't see what they're trying to accomplish with this, cause last I checked Assad wasn't big on the UN either.
And the UK wants to support these cunts? I know this is a select group, and I doubt some of the FSA wanted this. But holy fuck if this doesn't tell you something that should make you reconsider something then there aren't going to be many good decisions to come out of it. ALSO: The UN are fucking peacekeepers, only to fire at upon being fired at, and to help EVERYONE in need. Fucking pricks taking them hostage? I mean, I'm glad they haven't KILLED them, yet.
Like I said in the other thread about this - The rebels, just like Facepunch, is not a homogeneous entity with unified thoughts and beliefs.
The UK wants to support the sane rebels with the decent cause. Not these fucking morons.
How do you honestly tell the difference? Without sounding biased, or anything here; How do you tell the difference between people like these, in the video, compared to other FSA rebels in Syria?

Nor is it wise to assume these people represent the entire rebellion.
And the rebels have now gone full retard
You don't. Nor is it wise to assume these people represent the entire rebellion.
Yeah, but it's not wise to typically 'hand' over armored vehicles to these idiots to have a possibility of using it for good, or bad. I mean, the SAA have reactive armor covered tanks. Are people going to send them Abrams, or T-72's?
LOL, gotta love the effectiveness of the U.N. This is going to fuck the rebels over because even though they are not a homogeneous group they lack the ability to police themselves (or maybe even choose not to). Because of this they could lose support and we just wait until there are no Syrians left.
Oh for Chrissake, what the hell is wrong with these people?

Sorry to burst your bubble but forces that oppose ruling governments have never been decent like history always tells and will tell. This is why other nations should respect the sovereignty of their neighbors and stop supporting any sides within their internal conflicts because the main goal of each side has been and always will be to have power.

This happened like 15 minutes away from where I live, I think my dad even knows some of the peacekeepers since he works for UNDOF. Hopefully they let them go.
well that group really fuck themselves over, hopefully the main rebel forces doesnt get the shitty end of the stick with this
Like I said in the other thread about this - The rebels, just like Facepunch, is not a homogeneous entity with unified thoughts and beliefs.
Exactly. Not all rebels are good people, and not all soldiers are bad. There have been allegations of various human rights abuses on both sides of the conflict from UN sources. It would probably be best if other countries didn't intervene in the conflict given the complexity of the situation and the fact that Syria is its own sovereign nation.
Like I said in the other thread about this - The rebels, just like Facepunch, is not a homogeneous entity with unified thoughts and beliefs.
Hopefully the rebels that these people do not represent will take it upon themselves to settle this matter then. It would be in their best interest. If they decide not to help resolve the matter, I can't see how they're any better than the people who took the hostages.

Because they have bigger matters at hand. All that Assad regime or some shit, you know.
well that group really fuck themselves over, hopefully the main rebel forces doesnt get the shitty end of the stick with this
There are dozens of antigovernment paramilitiaries in Syria, from secular revolutionaries tired of oppression to al-Qaeda inspired Islamist militias.
"An alliance fuelled by hatred is a fragile one at best." The more I think about it the more I worry about post-revolution Syria.
Post-Assad Syria is going to look a lot like post-Ali Tunisia, post-Mubarak Egypt, and post-Gadaffi Libya, I'm afraid. Taking down a tyrant is just one step towards a free society - I predict we'll see a wave of short-lived Islamist governments in the Middle East in the next few years.

All these nations in the Arab Spring are going to take a very long time to build themselves a democratic government, and I suspect half of them will fail.
I've always looked up to UN Peacekeepers and Observers the way that some people look up to firefighters. I hope this situation is safely resolved.
And they said Bashar al-Assad was bad...
And they said Bashar al-Assad was bad...
The Assad, just unlike Facepunch, is a homogeneous entity with unified thoughts and beliefs. Sorry, Scorpious.

If anything they look more akin to the Turks in their moderation, and Turkey's a NATO member so that's saying something.
