Wettest recorded day in Portland: Mudslides, Floods, Sinkholes, Literal sewage shit overflowing into
PORTLAND, Ore. — Monday was the wettest calendar day in recorded history in Portland, and the rain was expected to stick around for days.
KGW-TV meteorologist Matt Zaffino said nearly 2.7 inches of rain on Monday tied a record for one day, from 12:01 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. The previous record was set on Nov. 19, 1996. More rain was forecast for Monday night, and Zaffino said the record would be sure to break.
The storm that caused floods, landslides, road closures and even a sinkhole was expected to bring its next wave of heavy rain Tuesday, possibly during the evening commute.
I literally just flew back from here so it's weird as fuck to see, because the tram I took back to the airport was experiencing "delays" which I didn't expect to be too uncommon, guess I was wrong.
Yup, and it's still raining.
The last time I remember it being anything like this was the flood of 1996.

Boy was it ever wet, and it was the one day I didn't bring my damn umbrella. Good thing I was hiding inside the community college till it blew over.
Yeah it's been raining in Oregon for a good week now. And it's going to keep raining for another week as well according to google.

Let's hope you don't have to ford any rivers
Had to drive on the wrong side of the road to get out of apartment complex this morning because the road was flooded

Even more rain today. Heard there's a bad mudslide up by kalama, north of Vancouver.

How do such sinkholes even form to begin with? I've just discussed it with a classmate. What we find the most interesting is how the rest of the road is just straight.
air gaps underground, formed by geological processes, fills in with dirt and forms a sinkhole.
or something like that
Water erodes away the rock and earth underneath the ground forming a cavern and when the water leaves the roof of the cavern collapses forming a sinkhole, they're fairly common around where I live.
This reminds me of Life is Strange. Thoughts and prayers to anyone that got affected or hurt.
We've gotten about 9 inches of rain at my house since the start of the month according to our rain meter. I guess the weather is making up for being so dry up until now.
Seattle's been raining non-stop (until this morning) for three days but it's been pretty mild.
Mudslides blocking the only route north unless you go 100 miles out of your way and now a Tornado.
Hope my grandparents are safe, they live in Hillsboro
What's up, I'm like 40 miles north and there's hella mudslides, road closures and school cancellations. I5 north is now closed thanks to yet another mudslide, and co-workers commuting to our woodland branch who were brave enough to travel to work today are now stranded.
Fuck you, nature.
Pls send some of that rain our way, we'll gladly take it off your hands. Sincerely, California.
