If you want to go live in a demilitarized country like Palau, be my guest.
no one is arguing for absolute demilitarization here; why are you confusing this for foreign involvement and questionable practices
You call two pages of people ganging up on one guy and flaming the fuck out of him because he's in the military a discussion?
Yes because it was more then that you nitwit.
Your superior officers won't commend you for killing children. What the fuck?
For pissing on the corpses of your enemies. It results in more terrorism, which they can use as leverage for more power and to keep flowing money into the military industrial complex.
If you want to go live in a demilitarized country like Palau, be my guest.
Is this supposed to prove something?
I want you to say to your fucking self in the mirror five times: "I am willing to kill another human being, regardless of their history, family, hopes, dreams, fears, things that make them another human being based entirely on what my government who has a long history of poor decisions in this field tells me. I will kill men, women, children, infants, regardless of what or who they are simply because my government has classified them as "Enemies of the United States"
I don't think you can shoot at insurgents until they start shooting at you, or something. I'm trying to put this in a way that doesn't make me sound extreamly condescending, but you seem like the kind of person that doesn't really know how the military works.
no one is arguing for absolute demilitarization here; why are you confusing this for foreign involvement and questionable practices
Then what is he arguing for? The only other alternative I can think of is dismantling the entire structure and letting it run it's own course. A military simply doesn't work without a strict chain of command. [editline]21st December 2012[/editline]
Is this supposed to prove something?
It's not supposed to prove anything, it's supposed to say something along the lines of "If you don't like it, go somewhere else."
Then what is he arguing for? The only other alternative I can think of is dismantling the entire structure and letting it run it's own course. A military simply doesn't work without a strict chain of command.
Nobody is actually arguing for anything here. It's basically one big succession of people posting their opinions, other people getting pissy over said opinions and posting their own opinions in much ruder fashion, and everything devolving into a pissing contest from then out. In fact, almost every thread related to this sort of thing tends to follow the same path.

It doesn't matter how much you think the military is full of homicidal maniacs, you're never going to change the nature of war.
For pissing on the corpses of your enemies. It results in more terrorism, which they can use as leverage for more power and to keep flowing money into the military industrial complex.
You have no idea how the military works. If I kill a child, it is a life sentence in Ft. Leavenworth.
It doesn't matter how much you think the military is full of homicidal maniacs, you're never going to change the nature of war.
then how about we don't romanticize war or get into stupid interventionism ordeals
For pissing on the corpses of your enemies. It results in more terrorism, which they can use as leverage for more power and to keep flowing money into the military industrial complex.
Which is clearly why these Marines are being paraded around as heroes instead of getting court martialed.
You call two pages of people ganging up on one guy and flaming the fuck out of him because he's in the military a discussion?
yes because it's obviously just because he's in the military, and not because he encapsulates just what is wrong with the US military (naive kids willing to kill for the state)
I don't think you can shoot at insurgents until they start shooting at you, or something. I'm trying to put this in a way that doesn't make me sound extreamly condescending, but you seem like the kind of person that doesn't really know how the military works.
You have it correct. We can only shoot at people that shoot at us first, or are about to attack.
For pissing on the corpses of your enemies. It results in more terrorism, which they can use as leverage for more power and to keep flowing money into the military industrial complex.
Sounds like you're critiquing some fucked up fantasy military, instead of the real thing. People fuck up. Soldiers are people too, if you've forgot. This Marine fucked up. He's been punished. It will follow him for the rest of his life. He doesn't speak for the entire organization, though. Generals don't sit in their offices all day, scheming ways to kill more kids and piss on more corpses. It's not the big conspiracy that you seem to be suggesting.
it's more annoying when you do ambient noise posts like this that are only half-assed guesses of what people are doing cease
Half-assed guesses?
idk if its just me but i want my military to not consist of a bunch of unhinged chain-gangs who piss on corpses and scorn people for snitching

This was a good thing for the US Military though, why would he be punished for something his superiors commend him for? Events like killing children, double-tap drone strikes, urinating on corpses are good because they result in perpetual war. Do people still not get that this is the real goal of all this bullshit interventionism?
Yeah, those are totally half-assed guesses.
Which is clearly why these Marines are being paraded around as heroes instead of getting court martialed.
30 days. What a terrible sentence, especially considering, like I said before, it cost other people their lives. It's a slap on the wrist for something that should be treated with WAY more seriousness.
You have it correct. We can only shoot at people that shoot at us first, or are about to attack.
Yeah, aren't patrols tactics to kind of bait the taliban out? to get them to fire at them.
Sounds like you're critiquing some fucked up fantasy military, instead of the real thing. People fuck up. Soldiers are people too, if you've forgot. This Marine fucked up. Also I'm genuinely amazed how some people on this forum paint the taliban out to be the good guys.
then how about we don't romanticize war or get into stupid interventionism ordeals
I don't know about the romanticizing war part but I will agree that we should be staying out of countries we have no business in. The reason war is romanticized in media I think is because it's an exciting setting that a lot of people have never personally experienced. The whole joining the Marines right out of high school thing that's been going on lately though, that needs to change. Enlistment age could easily be raised to 20 or 21 and it would filter out every single person who joins the military just because they played too much Call of Duty.
Yeah, aren't patrols tactics to kind of bait the taliban out? to get them to fire at them. This, so much this.. Also I'm genuinely amazed how some people on this forum paint the taliban out to be the good guys.
where
This, so much this.. Also I'm genuinely amazed how some people on this forum paint the taliban out to be the good guys.
Yeah, it's almost like our country has a history with them or something. They're clearly NOT good guys, but neither are we.
where
I've seen some posts that kinda looked like that, though it could've just read it wrong I guess.. I don't really want to start another debate, I'll just shutup.
Yeah, it's almost like our country has a history with them or something. They're clearly NOT good guys, but neither are we.
well there's good and evil on both sides.
Yeah, it's almost like our country has a history with them or something. They're clearly NOT good guys, but neither are we.
There's no such thing as "good guys" in war
There's no such thing as "good guys" in war
Right The Allies weren't the good guys in WW2
For pissing on the corpses of your enemies. It results in more terrorism, which they can use as leverage for more power and to keep flowing money into the military industrial complex.
So you're one of those new world order conspiracy nuts. How about you provide us with some actual evidence of this instead of useless conjecture.
Yeah, it's almost like our country has a history with them or something. They're clearly NOT good guys, but neither are we.
In any ordeal there's never such thing as "good guys" and no such thing as "bad guys" until you're looking at the ones who rape child slaves, commit genocides, and launch CBRN weapons at puppy orphanages.
30 days. What a terrible sentence, especially considering, like I said before, it cost other people their lives. It's a slap on the wrist for something that should be treated with WAY more seriousness.
How do you gauge what is and isn't a "fair" punishment for something like this? He's been kicked out of the military, so now he has no salary. He has to serve time, which is now on his record. This event is also on his record. Employers take criminal convictions pretty seriously. Imagine someone with a military court martial trying to find a job. His punishment extends far beyond his actual jail sentence.
For pissing on the corpses of your enemies. It results in more terrorism, which they can use as leverage for more power and to keep flowing money into the military industrial complex.
wait are you basically saying that he was ordered to pee on a corpse, so there would be more terrorism? what.
Right The Allies weren't the good guys in WW2
well, they did nuke about 200k people the ussr committed terrible crimes against its people; shall we mention what they did to poland, too? nazi germany is responsible for the holocaust stop
Right The Allies weren't the good guys in WW2
The Soviet Union was part of the Allied Forces and the United States dropped two atomic bombs right on top of a ton of innocent civilians in Japan.
