OogalaBoogal DaFreshLemon Evilrakion Firespray Uncle Bourbon DiscoMelon CatFodder Rex McCoolguy Persious is respect for a dead object really that important?
Um, yes. Desecrating corpses ain't cool, no matter how dead they are. It's like if I dug up your dead family, fucked them, and then ate them. They're dead right, they don't care? Same reasoning. I understand war gets to people, but you got to have some mental fortitude for these things.
I'm sorry, but I really don't see why he is being sentenced. He pissed on the dead body of the soldier who tried to kill him. He did not rape civilians, or slaughter civilians. This is the equivalent of sticking your tongue out at the dead soldier "Na na na na na I got you!" but instead he pissed on them. They go through more shit than most of us could even imagine, and we're dogging them for things that happen at war?

There are standards of professional conduct that the United States military is obligated to hold itself to, especially overseas. Disrespecting the dead is, quite literally, illegal. It is also morally wrong. That is the thing that separates us from the enemies we are fighting, our professionalism and morality. These Marines violated both the actual law, and the integrity of the military. That is absolutely unacceptable conduct.
meanwhile rapists and murderers go free
30 days is fair enough [editline]21st December 2012[/editline]
There's rules of war. Being an enemy combatant does not give you free reign to do as you please.
Yeah, look back in history and I'm pretty sure you'll see enough examples of that being ignored
30 days... for desecration... sure thang...
Should be 3-5 month's, horrible way to serve your country.
OogalaBoogal DaFreshLemon Evilrakion Firespray Uncle Bourbon DiscoMelon CatFodder Rex McCoolguy Persious is respect for a dead object really that important?
It's not a dead "object". It's a dead body. I don't know where you have been, but to a majority of people, dead bodies are sacred things, a shell that used to contain a human soul. For most people, that's important. They want to lay it to peaceful rest so that maybe the soul will peacefully rest too, after all the hardships that life has thrown onto the deceased person. These people were someone's father, son, or brother. They care even though you might not.
OogalaBoogal DaFreshLemon Evilrakion Firespray Uncle Bourbon DiscoMelon CatFodder Rex McCoolguy Persious is respect for a dead object really that important?
yes, respect the dead.
He went over there to fight these guys who have absolutely NO value to human life because of bullshit reasons

and now his life is pretty much ruined because he disrespected the body of an animal.
ahahhahahahha the irony
You mean music section?
it's true.

It used to house and be something that had hopes, ambitions, loves, hatreds, it was something that was human. This is not so with most other animals. Even if the person was a piece of shit, we should respect their death and not maim or desecrate their corpse, we tout civilization after all.
You should atone for your crimes to the full extent, regardless of whether or not you are serving your country's agenda. Rating dumb isn't a response, man the fuck up and hit reply.
Dumb
He will most likely be denied reenlistment, and given a general discharge. Usually if you can't reenlist you get an honorable, but in this case I am thinking general, due to the blemish on his record.
Then he shouldn't of fucking done it. People who join any form of the military are not children, it is extremely disappointing to see some act like it. They should know the rules and what is/is not acceptable. [editline]22nd December 2012[/editline]
is respect for a dead object really that important?
People are not objects.
Yeah, look back in history and I'm pretty sure you'll see enough examples of that being ignored
Okay? And this excuses this why?
what he did was a technical war crime period.
In spirit, yes, but technically was perfectly legal because the Taliban isn't a uniformed military.
In spirit, yes, but technically was perfectly legal because the Taliban isn't a uniformed military.
Still have to abide by the rules of war.
What you are not getting is that this is how it works here in the US. No one with a criminal record ever gets another job unless they are working for dirt. His career must end if our military is to be shown as moral. We can't have someone who desecrates corpses, poses for a photo, and then uploads it all in this 'spur of the moment' as you call it. It's unprofessional, it's degrading to every other honest serviceman, and it's downright fucking stupid. He had ample time to think about whether or not this was a good idea. Don't try to play it off as if he is the victim. His life would've been over, according to you, with a 5 day sentence, and so what is a few more months?
Whoa wait, I only just got into the thread and that last bit got me there. "He was sentenced for his crimes, his future was destroyed, why not just make his life even more miserable and lock him up for some more months for amusement? It's not like it'll make a difference, anyways. His life is over, after all." That's a pretty horrible argument if you're aiming for morality.
In spirit, yes, but technically was perfectly legal because the Taliban isn't a uniformed military.
When you try to skirt international law it doesn't end in anything good.
i expected piss jokes i am disappointed
In spirit, yes, but technically was perfectly legal because the Taliban isn't a uniformed military.
I don't think that you or other people understand that we tacked on rules to everything, and it is against the laws of war that we have imposed on ourselves, and for very good reason. It is not legal in the slightest.
