Microsoft is building on their games for windows platform with digital content store. Copy pasta ensues: Source This can only end in tears, there is absolutely no way Microsoft can even begin to compete with Valve in the PC market. Steam has been around for far too long already and has too much of a fan base. Not to mention if they keep up the ridiculous Microsoft Points system of currency then they are just asking for failure.
First Microsoft tries to outdo Google (lol) by launching http://bing.com/ , and now this? Give up Microsoft, stick to making OS's and Xbox.
Valve isn't a monopoly with multinational interests, who care nothing for their consumers, and spend their time devoted to seeing just how far they can go in milking their customers for overpriced accessories.
Once again, a digital distribution service that will come nowhere in the terms of even rivaling steam.
Just wait until they start to bundle it with Windows. Shit will hit the fan eventually. Valve will probably be safe for years though.
Just wait until they start to bundle it with Windows. Shit will hit the fan eventually. Valve will probably be safe for years though.
This is my biggest concern. Microsoft could get a pretty sizable slice of the market if they bundled it with Windows. IE still has over 60% of the browser market share. Then again competition is never a bad thing.
Just fuck off, Microsoft. Nobody likes you
So you hate Windows too? Seriously. This will never get off the ground. I'd rather put a gun to my head than use GFWL.
I love how you people mindlessly jump on the GFWL SUCKS OMG MICROSHIT HAS ABANDON US 4 EXBAWKS!!111 bandwagon.
Being late, out-of-touch, and generally an obvious waste of investment and time isn't a good idea to not like something?
Microsoft is great, they gave us Windows, but if they want to make a smart move they should team up with valve to make the ultimate gaming company :science:
Impossible since Microsoft is fucking greedy and can't be bothered to share the profits.
M$ doesn't know what they are doing anymore, but it'll be good for steam - maybe they'll finally add plugins
The problem is that they will most likely bundle this with Windows and as such will end up 'dominating' the market either way, although we'll always know which is better.
And just like FireFox to Internet Explorer, I'll stick to Steam And I highly doubt Microsoft will be cutting 75% off deals, or selling 350 dollars worth of games for $50
Now if only I could get it to run on windows 7.
Microsoft is a follower, never an innovator anymore. They need to think ahead of what everyone else is doing.
Do you know what OnLive is? It's a service which renders the game on their very high end servers and streams it down to you. So you could play Crysis on a NETBOOK on MAX with GREAT FPS. All you need is a 1Mb connection or higher. Who are they following with OnLive? Also this isn't new. GOD has been around for the XBM for a while. They're just extending it to GFWL exclusives. Boohoo. There are few games on GFWL so there's no way they can compete with Steam.
Oh wow, Mac-lover much? [editline]02:21AM[/editline] Strangely that's actually a fucking great idea. But has Microsoft ever teamed up with anyone? I can't recall.
Once, with Apple in the 80's I think?
I love how you people mindlessly jump on the GFWL SUCKS OMG MICROSHIT HAS ABANDON US 4 EXBAWKS!!111 bandwagon. :bandwagon: It's a perfectly fine system. Get over it.
Nah, my hate for GFWL came from trying to bother purchasing Fallout 3 DLC. Why can't I just pay USD? You know, that wonderful national currency of the nation you're BASED IN. Or better yet, why can I only purchase your special currency in amounts that require me to purchase 5+ items from you to not get ripped off?

I want to pay the price of a game, not have 3 or four dollars of useless points left over after.

It is it's own company
I like using steam for its great ambiance, easy to use interface and great customer support.
Steam has great customer support? It's a great service, but their customer support makes me wish for an Indian guy on the other end of the phone.
I actually hope this gets a bit popular. To get some competition, you know.
Microsoft doesn't own OnLive. It is it's own company
Ouch, was I misinformed :<
Microsoft, because making thousands of dollars every second isn't enough.
MS, stay the fuck out of gaming, please? But "No".
Only good thing that will come out of this is, well if Steam even looks at them as a competition (Which they won't)... Never mind, not going to happen.
Goddamnit, this thing is gonna keep GFWL alive for much longer than it should live. Hopefully more devs will still convert to Steamworks and abandon the POS that is GFWL. EDIT: Also, who in their right mind would buy games using Microsoft's Fun Bux instead of using real cash, like you do with Steam and D2D?
Oh god. Fuck microsoft. All their game related apps/software sucks and the creators should be shot.
You do realize that Newell is a former Microsoft employee, right?
You do realize that Newell is a former Microsoft employee, right?
"Former"
"Former"
"Formal"? Damnit... :downs:
Could Microsoft's gaming department please go ack to wallowing in their own shit on the ecsbawcs and not keep interfering with my platform with these half hearted attempts to cash in. Leave the PC development to the OS department, at least they know what they're doing and aren't trying to fuck up PC Gaming everywhere they go.
Microsoft is a follower, never an innovator anymore. They need to think ahead of what everyone else is doing.
What have Microsoft innovated?
In other news: Latest Windows 7 patch causes crashes in Steam and all Steam games...
Games for Windows Live sucks, 800 microsoft points to change your name for DoW2?? Isn't Bill Gates rich enough already?
There has been SO many problems with games for windows live. Both for people wanting to play their single-player game, then later go online and having to erase their single-player save because they have to make an online user instead of offline. Please Microsoft, I hope you don't think this will succeed.
