Considering the fact that they probably just have out-fucking-standingly out-fucking-dated Grads... that's pretty accurate.
and then the world becomes a parody of itself like red alert, secretly north korea has some sort of actual threatening amount of power
Why would North Korea tell everyone what they are doing? At this point we don't even need intelligence on North Korea, they will just tell us everything.
This is KCNA we're talking about. They are the purest example of propaganda, and are meant for domestic consumption; looking to them for actual hard facts is the height of absurdity. Kim wants the Nork people to think he's tough on the enemies of the state in order to boost his popularity.
It's funny if you know, then why don't you explain it to us instead of that non constructive shiiiet.
Prior to the recent escalations of rhetoric and military drills by both North Korea and the US, the US and UN had withdrawn food aid to the North due to it's Nuclear weapons testing and Space programme, among other things.
Aid has been provided to the North for a long time, and this type of tough-talk isn't anything new from North Korea or the US - the North has attacked the South in recent years and usually nothing further comes of it.
I predict here that North Korea will eventually launch some form of attack towards the South, the US will then negotiate to provide food aid and the North will stand down it's Military whilst keeping it's Nuclear weapons programme intact. We will probably see these events unfold again in the next few years.
North Korea surely knows that it does not stand a chance in hell against the US military, which leads me to think this amount of exposure is for two reasons. Firstly, it's sheer propaganda to keep North Korean citizens in line and assert Kim Jong Un's leadership since Kim Jong Il passed away. Secondly, it could be to antagonise the US and South, it wouldn't surprise me if North Korean military strategy intended to lure the US and the South into a ground war with the same guerrilla and insurgent tactics that have historically dragged on the US. Any war on the ground would be similar circumstances to the planned invasion of the Japanese mainland i.e high resistance from indoctrinated civilians. However, given what we know about the North being a recipient of Food Aid, it's quite unlikely.
The issue with relying on indoctrinated civilians is that most will eventually realize they were lied to. Along with any kind of foreign occupation would come food aid that actually gets to the people of NK, and a free flow of information. Keeping them indoctrinated requires an iron grip by the state, and that just isn't possible if war breaks out.

Only a pussy does sneak attacks.

Well the North Korean population is very heavily brainwashed, see the below anti-US propaganda poster.

Would the civilians realise they were being lied to? They would see aggressive US soldiers, and most likely have been taught not to trust them in any way which would prevent any breaking down of barriers between the two sides.

When it's that dramatic all they have to do is see US Soldiers not gunning down civilians in the streets to realize something is up. Of course mistrust will be their first reaction, but an insurgency is hardly going to be the result. Unless everyone in NK goes and hides in the hills, they are going to slowly realize the UN nations aren't trying to have them all wiped out.
Besides, that baby is clearly having a great time.

I don't know, regardless of how ridiculous, I think a lifetime with growing up learning that Americans are the root to all evil would leave a pretty long-lasting and hard to change mental footprint. Much worse than we have of, say, Nazis.

I'm sure some, if not many, will realise that they were lied to - but many won't and even as you say, they will be slow to realise and in that time could cause huge damage to the US.
Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq are all wars where guerrilla warfare halted progress, the shortest of which lasted for 8 years - they were also all poor countries, Iraq and Afghanistan both having regimes. Why would North Korea be any different given the huge amount of propaganda they employ?
Do it already.

Because the Vietnman, Iraq, and to a point the Afghanistan insurgencies all kind of had points. We weren't there for any real reason beyond political BS with the exception of Afghanistan. The populace of NK is starving. Slave labor is in use. It isn't a political dispute in the same sense as the three nations you listed. Human rights are being trampled on, and not just against certain ethnic or religious groups. Everybody is equally shitty to the leadership of NK. It isn't a question of whether the people agree with our political ideology or our "world police" status, it's a matter of whether they want to continue living in oppression or have regular meals, and unless all the civilians manage to somehow stay out of areas controlled by UN nations, which would be the entire country in the event of war, the people in charge won't be able to keep the masses under their propaganda forever. Or very long at all. There may be an insurgency at first, but it's not going to last in the same way the ones in the Middle-east did.

I appreciate that any conflict with North Korea wouldn't be exactly the same as any of the wars I mentioned, but your point was that the North Korea population would be sympathetic to US forces because they are starving and there are human rights abuses.
However, the CIA world fact book considers Afghanistan the poorest country in the world by GDP per capita, the Taliban committed a vast amount of atrocities and human rights violations yet the population of Afghanistan remains generally neutral towards the US, despite it's best efforts.
In any of those countries, involvement with and support of the US would likely have meant better living conditions and more wealth, or at least not being worse off - yet parts of the population continued to reject it. It doesn't even matter if the regime can no longer put forth propaganda, the power and effect it has on people is phenomenal - one great example is the last man fighting in WW2, who despite the best genuine efforts to convince him the war was over, he refused it as propaganda.
If the US were to win over the North Korea people with food aid and liberty, it would be so unbelievably costly - 24,000,000 people. Any one in some sort of leadership role would be aligned with the regime and would be untrustworthy, who would therefore organise the people? How would you re-organise the economy? What about the millions in slave labour camps? Where would they live? If the North Korea people were skeptical, at best, of the US and the South, it would be next to impossible.
I bet they have a threat minister, whose sole job is to send out threats to the US and South Korea.

Considering the fact that their rockets don't have the range to hit the US, It really doesn't make a difference if they tell us or not.
If this is how they fight on land the war will be terribly easy :v:
