Ok guys, I understand being PC is nice, but we don't have to replace EVERYTHING with a minority ya know?
Ok guys, I understand being PC is nice, but we don't have to replace EVERYTHING with a minority ya know?
but you have to be diverse i don't have a problem with a comic book character being changed since, but it's pretty annoying how people in general make these big announcements using minorities simple because they know they'll get a ton of attention. and that's obviously the case here given that they just changed Thor (who I thought was supposed to be a Norse god) to a woman recently now they think they're really progressive and get to pat themselves on the back. he'll probably turn out to be a good character anyway, it just irks me a little when big corporations jump on this shit
Ok guys, I understand being PC is nice, but we don't have to replace EVERYTHING with a minority ya know?
good thing they're not replacing everything, just one character
Why is it that the same people who argue against diversity in art by saying that it hinders creative freedom, are the first people to attack artists diversifying their creations over some nebulous, undefinable "political correctness" illegitimacy?
And it's perfectly within reason for people to dislike what the creators of fiction has done to established characters. Why are you insisting that everyone shoul love that change?
Do you even read Marvel?
Wasn't Spiderman black for a while a few years ago? Thor and Cap'll change back I'm sure, not to mention there's got to be more than one story arc Even Loki was a woman once :v:
Let's make Catwoman and Wonderwoman into guys.
Neither Captain America nor Thor rely specifically on being male (or white) to make sense while Catwoman and Wonderwoman have woman in their name so it's not actually possible to change it like that.
Also this reminds me when Idris Elba was announced as Heimdall in the movies and a load of nerds got angry (not that most people cared) that he was black but it turned out he's damn good at playing him Anyway Captain America's role is being passed onto an existing Marvel character who's black anyway so you can't really say they're changing the original character just for the sake of being PC
Ok guys, I understand being PC is nice, but we don't have to replace EVERYTHING with a minority ya know?
Super Hero personas have changed real identities all the god damn time, it's not new and it'll never stop because it's a cool concept that allows diversity. Same reason why there's like twelve hundred different robins and batgirls (one of which is in a wheelchair), why there's several green lanterns one of which is black (and by far the coolest of the bunch in my opinion), etc.
A "Gay Tony" Prince-style Iron Man to complete the politically correct trio. [sp]Not going to lie, that does kind of sound cool[/sp] The FemThor thing was silly. But this is a more logical character change that I'm okay with.

But this is a more logical character change that I'm okay with.
the only thing that's silly about femthor is the fact that thor isn't worthy of the hammer anymore, for some reason. other than that it's literally the same thing as this one
Why not just use Isaiah Bradley? Why not just use Tarene? I liked the Falcon as the Falcon.
because Falcon was pretty open about wanting the job. Really don't get any of the butt-hurt on this one, Falcon's wanted the job for a long time and he's always been on the short list to replace Cap anyway, well before the Civil War was even a thing.
Don't give a shit really, mainly because comic book writing with a few notable exceptions is almost always shit tier, and because its not the first time thor has been something other than a nordic male (he's been a horse ffs) But its just that Marvel's latest schtick with the appeal to "progressive-ism" just feels tacked on and disingenuous. To understand what I'm getting at, the characters they've produced are basically stereotype representations of what people perceive to be underrepresented minorities in comics. They haven't gone, hey heres an interesting character who happens to be black, or gay, or female. They've gone, heres a character who is interesting because he's black/gay/female/a fucking donkey. Here's an idea for comics to appeal to a wider audience: fire your goofy writers and retain the ones who actually have talent.
Neither Captain America nor Thor rely specifically on being male (or white) to make sense while Catwoman and Wonderwoman have woman in their name so it's not actually possible to change it like that.
Well if they really wanted to genderbend them they could easily just be like "Oh, it's Cat[del]wo[/del]man/Wonder[del]wo[/del]man now" by this infallible logic I demand Catwoman becomes a sexy young man in a skintight black catsuit :v:
Super Hero personas have changed real identities all the god damn time, it's not new and it'll never stop because it's a cool concept that allows diversity. These back to back changes honestly do seem to be pandering. It can make sense in the context of the comics but it feels just like the archie headline of "ARCHIE KILLS HIMSELF TO SAVE THE FIRST OPENLY GAY MAYOR WHO SUPPORTS GUN CONTROL" Will see how it plays out but would rather have original heroes instead of "Captain America- but black!" or "Thor- now a girl!" Edit: I don't even hate Falcon, I just don't like the fact they're benching Steve for no reason instead of letting Falcon become his own thing. Were his comics hated or something? Why does he have to give up his own thing just to bench Steve? Girl thor is still really stupid though.
So basicly Captian America just gave his Costume and shield to Falcon and just said "Your Captian America now, BYE!" -Captian America runs out of the run in wild crazed screams-
she's not in a wheelchair anymore.
What happened there?
So basicly Captian America just gave his Costume and shield to Falcon and just said "Your Captian America now, BYE!" -Captian America runs out of the run in wild crazed screams-
From what I read from another website, Captain America got his serum removed by "Iron Nail", so now he is a fragile old man. Hence the Falcon, one of Captain Amerca BFFs, is now the new Captain America.
I am pretty sure that Steve Rogers will get the serum back eventually.
Well, duh. But still, Falcon with his wings and the shield looks really cool. [t]http://geekxgirls.com/images/newcap/falcon_captain_america.jpg[/t]
It's okay changing, by adding like, new characters and shit. But taking old characters that people have loved for literally decades and then just suddenly deciding to change them into a female like Thor is just really fucking weird, why not just add a female character instead of changing a current one?
The comic world is changing constantly. I don't know how many alternate universes, reboots, good-characters-turning-evil or other big changes have happened over the years, but it's lots. If morality, costume and personality can drastically change I don't see why gender, sex or race should be held sacred
Now let's give Hulk down's syndrome or put the Flash in a wheelchair.
Now let's give Hulk down's syndrome or put the Flash in a wheelchair.
More people with physical or mental illnesses/disabilities in media would be a great thing
More people with physical or mental illnesses/disabilities in media would be a great thing
yeah, mentally ill crime fighters, great idea
I can live with this. There have been Robins that weren't Dick Grayson, and Batmans who weren't Bruce Wayne.
Don't give a shit really, mainly because comic book writing with a few notable exceptions is almost always shit tier
Lol I can think of much more than just a few notable exceptions. There are plenty of examples of god-tier writing from the industry which can be found in multiple genres, not just the superhero one. [editline]17th July 2014[/editline]
yeah, mentally ill crime fighters, great idea
So, Batman basically?
i feel majority of the people who gets angry at these things don't read much of the comics to begin with lol tbh, this should have been done long time ago after steve rogers 'died' in the civil wars arc, too bad they brought him back by some weird fucking route 'captain america never died! he was just shot with a bullet that displaces him in some other space & time even though red skull wanted him dead! why? we have no idea, here comes the return of cap!'
Lol I can think of much more than just a few notable exceptions. [editline]17th July 2014[/editline] So, Batman basically?
more like piderman and baman [editline]17th July 2014[/editline] and yes those are spelled right for what i'm specifically mentioning
Now let's give Hulk down's syndrome or put the Flash in a wheelchair.
why are you comparing them making a character black to making a character be mentally challenged
