But their actions are motivated by religion! You're defining insanity as religion. If you honestly and sincerely believe you are doing the work of the almighty powerful creator of the universe, and you would be rewarded forever, wouldn't you do it? Their insanity IS their religion.
Their actions are...motivated...by their insanity... [editline]01:14AM[/editline] You know that one thing that happens when your brain isn't working so well
And without religion, you wouldn't have a reason to hate gay people or people of different faiths. You could form your own morals, your own communities, without being threatened with eternity of pain and misery if you don't believe the whole thing.
Don't even get started on that. Religion is at best an excuse for already present hatred. People would hate gays even if there was no church. It's in our wiring to fear what is different. Religion just gives people a rationalization and sometimes a community for their hate, which really, you can find anywhere anyways.

If religion motivated people to kill or hate other people there would be way fewer tolerant christians. [editline]08:18AM[/editline]
So you're saying only follow the morals you choose from a religion?
That's what everyone does anyways. No one follows the bible down to the word because it is full of contradictions. Some parts are out-dated, or metaphorical, or whatever.
I've heard the saying "God helps those who help themselves." In turn, those who take this advice give more credit to God than themselves. :smith: God cured me of my common cold! Ok my immune system, along with my extra sleep and ample drinking of of fluids helped out a little. :downs:
Their actions are motivated by their own fear, hate, and greed. If religion motivated people to kill or hate other people there would be way fewer tolerant christians.
Yeah I agree. It seems to me though that religion becomes a vessel that people can use to express their hatred, due to the odd tendency for religion to attract our attention and command a certain level of respect.

It is the way we are as humans. You take away a person's vessel and they will find another.
83% of the Americans that were asked are idiots. Betcha can't guess which 83%.
THAT'S WHAT I WAS SAYING :(! f
What we've got here is a failure to communicate
Either god doesn't exist or he does and he hates me. Just took a shit, but it was 2 small nuggets and I thought it wasn't anything to worry about so I flushed it. Went to wipe and my asscrack was just covered in sticky brown goop. Took me 30 minutes to clean that shit out. Now my ass is raw.
Not god's country, he sees all. Except shock sites on the internet.
That's a very interesting poll result and I think we should research god a bit more, there could be more than we thought there is. No not really.
92% americans say they believe in god. I've lost faith in americans :(
I see what you fucking did thar.
Everyone in this thread defines retarded as disagreeing with them :( [editline]11:51PM[/editline] So? You can't prove that God DOESN'T answer prayer. I mean, I don't believe in God, but just because you believe that the person you BELIEVE to exist helps you, which is what he's supposed to do, doesn't make you retarded. You all think they're retarded because you think "GOD IS SUCH A RIDICULOUS IDEA AND ANYONE WHO BELIEVES IN IT IS RETARDED" or something, probably less drastic.
I prayed for pleanty of things as a kid, none of them happened.
God doesn't exist, if he does, he's not helping people. In any way, there is no biblical god
A religious organization even funded a huge study to see if prayer actually helped. 1800 patients from 6 different hospitals took part in it. Prayer did not work. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/31/health/31pray.html
In another of the study's findings, a significantly higher number of the patients who knew that they were being prayed for — 59 percent — suffered complications, compared with 51 percent of those who were uncertain. The authors left open the possibility that this was a chance finding. But they said that being aware of the strangers' prayers also may have caused some of the patients a kind of performance anxiety.
lulz. Oh shit, fox news must be one too. Proof: They have thousands of passwords and all papers are blank, they don't believe in passwords, that is of god and shit.
This is one of my favorite images. It also explains one of the problems I have with religion. They can pray all they want, but it won't get shit done until you get of your ass and do something.
maybe if i pray hard enough
Praying makes me happy sometimes :unsmith:
The same 83% who think the Virgin Mary is in their toast
That isn't a bad thing. If it works, it works. If believing god answers their prayers makes someone happy, then let them. As long as they don't infringe on someone else's rights I don't see the problem.
Thank you. At least one person on the site has come common sense. Why can't you guys just except some people believe in god? Atheists who mock Christians like many of you guys do are just as bad as the Christians who hate gays and atheists.
I shouldn't have come in here. Nice to see both sides represented so evenly. Also, the above quote by Ace is about the truest thing i've ever seen on FP. Religion's been around, and will STAY around, no matter how much you guys whine about everyone not being depressed atheists.
If god created everything in the universe, including all civilizations. And they just might have the holy spirit as their god too, so why on earth should it? take time with us, amogst all other races. And bullshit, that god created humans in his image, if he had a shape, it wouldnt be humans.
Well, people will believe what they want about praying and religion. I believe prayers can come true but no your typical prayer. A prayer for getting a material possession is not really a prayer to me, more of a way for little kids to pray for what they want. Now a prayer for say, moving on in life or feeling better is more of a true prayer. Why? Because most prayers are for just that, to help you feel better
92% americans say they believe in god. I've lost faith in americans :(
There's a difference between believing in god and being a religious nut. I know people who believe in god and they do not try to force their stuff on me, nor do they have a problem with gay marriage or anything like that. It depends on the person.
So atheists, can you prove there isn't a God?
Can you prove there is a God?
For the last fucking time, there is a huge difference between atheists who talk shit about religious thinking because it's based on faulty premises, and religious people who push through LEGISLATION to get what they want, and deprive others of rights, freedoms, and privileges. To even compare the two in the same vein, is just silly.
