Damn that's pretty cheap.
yea and trust me, when chicken is that cheap you end up getting so tired of eating it i almost get sick thinking of chicken sometimes, but its a better source of nutrition than any other alternatives for the same price
yea and trust me, when chicken is that cheap you end up getting so tired of eating it i almost get sick thinking of chicken sometimes, but its a better source of nutrition than any other alternatives for the same price
i love chicken, and rice have been eating them for close to 10 years
I work at a Taco Bell in Arizona. We get a shitload of obese families. While it's true that fast food is a lot cheaper than healthy food, most of these obese people eat huge portions. If they made an effort to eat less, and perhaps asked for a free water cup instead of an extra large drink, they might not be in as bad of a situation. I think a lot of the blame can be placed on education.
also since when do carbohydrates have a major effect on obesity ( unless you were referring to sugar/syrup filled drinks )
Let me just google that for you.
i dont mean to get in you and perfumlys argument but are you saying all poor people live in ghettos and dont even live within walking or driving distance from some kind of grocery market that sells whole food? i think you have some misconceptions as to what is healthy food.
"Compared to the poorest neighborhoods, large numbers of supermarkets and gas stations with convenience stores are located in wealthier neighborhoods. There are 3 times fewer places to consume alcoholic beverages in the wealthiest compared to the poorest neighborhoods." "For example, five supermarkets are located in 35 predominately black neighborhoods to provide service for nearly 118,000 people. In contrast, there are 68 supermarkets to serve 259,500 residents of predominately white neighborhoods. The ratio of supermarkets to residents for the predominately white areas is 1:3816 versus 1:23,582 for predominately black neighborhoods." "In addition, our results show that fewer households in poor and black neighborhoods have access to private transportation, which support findings by Turrel et al.25 and suggest that residents of these neighborhoods have greater difficulty obtaining healthy food." If you define "healthy food" as booze and McDonalds then yes poorer neighborhoods have it in abundance. And are probably 300 pounds and diabetic.
While it's true that fast food is a lot cheaper than healthy food, most of these obese people eat huge portions. Let's let the govorment decide what people can eat! how about instead of welfare we just have govornment employees.
Let's let the govorment decide what people can eat! how about instead of welfare we just have govornment employees.
No, then the original government workers would look like slackers!
It's really a good thing, if you're obese enough that its a medical problem you need some kind of incentive to lose weight, which most people don't have. Except for medical problems which they don't really care about.
so the incentive is to get fined, lol nice
for 20 bucks you could buy like 5 or 6 lbs chicken where im from ground beef(im assuming thats what beef mince is) is probably at a competitive price to you but since ground beef is so fatty its almost worthless to buy in a lot of cases since most of the mass ends up cooking off it is for me. but then again that might be regional, apparently washington has a ton of chicken farms or somethin [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] that takes effort when i was pulling 12-15 hour days when i got home i didnt want to pan fry or cook anything
These people are obese and on welfare, yeah if you work a long shift you have an excuse to not want to cook, but if you're being paid by the government BECAUSE you claim you cannot work only because you weigh twice as much as you should, there's no reason to not take a few minutes out of their life to cook their food. And you know what? If they honestly are too lazy do that, maybe they don't NEED to eat that meal.
fast food is also designed to make you want to eat more because it lacks what the body considers filling food. you can eat a lot more processed beef and cheap bread than you can eat whole beef and organic bread
I'm not disagreeing with that, but personally I find that fast/junk food fills me up really quick. But then again, it is hard for me to eat a lot of any kind of food which is likely due to some dieting I did for a sport back in high school. Tried going from 155 to 135lbs and this really screwed me up for a while because I had to force myself to eat.
Good.
You guys are ignoring the fact that really fat people are super gross to look at. We should ban super fat people from going out in public.
If you could read the thread before posting that'd be great, thanks.
yeah thanks that's what i did :colbert:
i love chicken, and rice have been eating them for close to 10 years
lucky i wish i wasnt so tired of chicken, i only like it nowadays if i shove a bunch of garlic and lemon on it
These people are obese and on welfare, yeah if you work a long shift you have an excuse to not want to cook, but if you're being paid by the government BECAUSE you claim you cannot work only because you weigh twice as much as you should, there's no reason to not take a few minutes out of their life to cook their food. I'm sure there is a lot of truth to that, but that can't be the only reason people over eat fast food. If that was the case, then why doesn't everyone over eat fast food? If you think that the quality of the food is the only reason people over eat, and that self control had nothing to do with it, you're a moron.
I am going to retract my previous statement in the thread and say this is not a good decision because welfare is not insurance. If this was about insurance I'd support less coverage based on risk provided that the person was some choice in the matter, but welfare is not based on risk.
I'm a Democrat; I support this.
Your own political stance should have any bearing on your opinion on political issues.
lucky i wish i wasnt so tired of chicken, i only like it nowadays if i shove a bunch of garlic and lemon on it welfare is usually done in conjunction with work in fact i couldnt even pull food stamps without working at least 20 hours per week but then again this is my experience with my state, they are more focused on trying to get people working than taking care of them on welfare, they actually had a great program(workfirst) where you would get some welfare, medical, and food, in return for you spending so many hours a week making an honest effort to look for work, and they would provide college classes and resume writing workshops as needed [editline]23rd May 2011[/editline] this was also before the welfare budget got huge cuts though fuckin washington state
You realize that they're doing this BECAUSE the fat people are getting paid while doing no work, essentially being paid to maintain a sloth-ish lifestyle. If they were actually doing work to earn a little extra money from the government it'd be a different story entirely.
yeah thanks that's what i did :colbert:
Not you, the tool who said something you countered before he posted. I was quoting you as a "look here at this thing you seem to have missed." You're normally pretty solid on talking after reading.
Wow. I'm sure there is a lot of truth to that, but that can't be the only reason people over eat fast food. If that was the case, then why doesn't everyone over eat fast food?
You could read the rest of the post discussing issues of availability of healthy food by neighborhood racial makeup and income level, along with availability of fast food and the like by the same metrics. You know, if you feel like not talking stupid. Saying "other people don't overeat fast food" is meaningless if they're not exposed to it often enough to let it compromise a large portion of their diet, unless you've got some wonderful new study on how portion sizes consumed at fast food joints don't vary based on what was consumed in preceding meals.

CONCLUSION: All fat people should be executed. [/thread]
Send them to a diet camp and make a tv series from it.
i have no idea what you are trying to say here
He's saying that he had to work 20 hours a week to get food stamps, but he doesn't seem to get that the purpose of doing this is BECAUSE they don't work to get their government money. They just sit on their ass and wait for their check. If they had to work in order to get it, this wouldn't be an issue, but the problem is that they all claim they can't work. Also, that means that he can't use the "ITS SO MUCH WORK TO COOK MY OWN FOOD AFTER PUTTING IN A NORMAL DAYS WORK" argument for them, because they didn't do any work to be exhausted from. If they're not capable of walking into their kitchen to cook their dinner, there's a problem.
