The injustice of giving starving people a product that will make them sick because it was easier to turn a buck that way is worse than the injustice of not doing anything at all
Why are you heading to conclusions so quickly? They were just testing the wheat, not going up to some starving kid and saying "OPEN YOUR MOUTH IT'S COMING!" while forcing open their jaws with their latex gloved hands. Nothing personal, just sayin'
Greenpeace has always been a terrorist organization....when they're not destroying labs, they're placing death threats to the scientists that work in them.
No, that's not Greenpeace. That's the Animal Liberation Front. The ALF is listed as a terrorist organization by the Department of Homeland Security, Greenpeace is not.
lack of responses to my completely correct post is disturbing. i just find it odd that quite a few people agreed yesterday and suddenly one person rated dumb and suddenly boxwagon. FPers certainly are fickle.
Glad to see they're taking out the fucking trash
right i agree with a police state as long as they allow for witty retorts
right i agree with a police state as long as they allow for witty retorts
it's best not to look too hard at russia and just laugh at it's antics

I was wondering what the text on their backs was saying (омон) so I google translate'd it. In Swedish: Flugsmälla: And it is Swat in English :v:
I think that's where our opinions differ, I think the public absolutely does deserve to know how the tests are going.
the researchers were the ones doing the work they can release whatever whenever
I think that's where our opinions differ, I think the public absolutely does deserve to know how the tests are going.
If they're moving on to Human tests, then I think it's safe to assume the Animal tests yielded no negative results.
Not only did they destroy the crops at CSIRO, but they probably ruined the careers of all the security officers at the company.
CSIRO are trustworthy; they're not some fringe weirdos.
No kidding, they're government funded. [editline]15th July 2011[/editline] and quite a large source of technological advancement.
If security wasn't able to stop these guys, then they probably aren't that good, anyways.
Isnt that wasteful? Thats like destroying meat because its "murder" its already happened so just make peace with it.
Genetically Modified crops have been around for millennia. Its called selective breeding. The only thing that we are doing now, is that instead of doing 20 breeding cycles to make the better food, with better attributes, we are now taking the attribute out of the genetic code of one plant, and putting it in the other.
right i agree with a police state as long as they allow for witty retorts
oh thisispain you so over-reactive
My respect for Russian Police just went up a little. It's still pretty low though.
You just insulted the Russian Police, you know what that means.

Y'know, we could just kill all the annoying environmentalists but leave the good ones? [editline]16th July 2011[/editline] POGROM TIME.
Isnt that wasteful? Thats like destroying meat because its "murder" its already happened so just make peace with it.
Apples and oranges. The main issue vegetarians have with meat is that you kill the animal. So destroying slaughtered meat doesn't do much. Here, though, their issue is more with the effects of the genetically modified foods and crops on the environment, and society. Destroying them becomes somewhat more reasonable. Instead of comparing it to a vegetarian destroying meat, you might compare it to a mother throwing out a pack of cigarettes found in her son's room. This is in no way an endorsement.
Destroying GM crops is not more reasonable, cause every damn crop is constantly adapting and changing anyway, the only differences between crops are in DNA and protein triggers, they all have the same basic template to some extent and the only major differences are when in their development certain DNA strands are active or not.

Fair enough, it is indeed just a relative thing, if I wasn't as tired I would have probably gathered that v:v:v
This is very much related:
Throughout history there has never been an abundance of food, all food has been the product of technology. Apples, corn, tomatoes; all modified, every food has been modified by selective breeding and grafting. For 10’000 years each attempted improvement has changed the DNA of the plant. Now some people up their arms about changes and DNA, you know what? If you’re able to get up and have food, you should celebrate. We should all dance about how much food we have. Why is anyone fighting food advance? A very small percentage of the world’s population is fortunate enough to have the luxury of turning down food. The rest of the world has been spending most of its time trying get any food. You know why? Technological problems. They got dirt, they got water, they got sun. They lack the technical ability, rich soils, they lack the machines to plant enough to feed their families. They lack the hybrid plants that produce more food per acer. We need to spread technology all we can so all people everywhere can deal with the problem of too much food. We can’t start getting picky ‘cause we got enough food, that’s just self centered and racist; unless your and yours are starving you need to SHUT. THE FUCK. UP. Best argument.
I think that's where our opinions differ, I think the public absolutely does deserve to know how the tests are going.
As I understand it, the wheat is being developed by a private company, not tax money. There is no reason for them to tell their results to anyone publicly unless they plan on putting it on the market, even then they don't have any reason to share their findings until the research is complete.
I am a supporter of the genetic modification of crops, but the thing we have to worry about is the Slippery Slope effect, IE "certain groups" using the technology for the wrong reasons.
I am a supporter of the genetic modification of crops, but the thing we have to worry about is the Slippery Slope effect, IE "certain groups" using the technology for the wrong reasons.
No we don't because we use governing bodies to regulate this shit, suddenly no incorrect fallacies.
Reminds me of those stupid animal rights protestors from 28 Days Later who end up releasing the virus to the world.
No we don't because we use governing bodies to regulate this shit, suddenly no incorrect fallacies.
Government regulations can't stop terrorist organizations and secret societies.
