Spike announces GOTY nominees, it's not a good list.

I don't understand people who say ME2 was better than ME3, 2 is a pointless trainwreck of a game with possibly the most dull combat system ever conceived and little to no sense of progression. Literally the only reason people liked ME2 was the story, which is admittedly pretty cliche. At least ME3 could decide whether it wanted to be a shooter or an RPG without watering it down.
That said, ME3 in no way deserves to be nominated for GOTY, it's a 5/10 game at best. I don't really agree with any of the nominations for GOTY. If I had to choose one it'd probably go to Borderlands 2 or Dota 2, but it feels to me like their hasn't really been a "game of the year" (besides Dota 2, but that's not even technically out yet). Hopefully Far Cry 3 turns that around.
ME3 streamlined choices in upgrading your characters, and overall felt less like an RPG. i would even go to say that ME3 outright dropped its RPG roots and said "we shooter now".
that and it held your hand. a lot. and don't get me started on specific things like forced slow-mo scenes and follow-the-leader sequences with do-as-you're-told sequences.
but hey ME3 will probably win spike's shitty goty contest anyway, and tbh not a fuck will be given because it's spike
Well if we're being fair about it, ME3 did a much better job implementing level-up RPG elements than Mass Effect 2 did. It's not as in-depth as ME1, but then ME1 was needlessly cluttered. I think ME3 just about hit the sweet spot as an Action-RPG.
ME3 is sort of like if you got a really pretty woman and shot her in the face a bunch of times. You can tell that there's still the vague haunting of beauty clinging onto the bone, but there's definitely bits missing that screw up the whole image and just make the whole thing feel sick.
Spec Ops should get nominated for Best Writing or something like that, but anything more would be somewhat undeserved
you're saying that like if spike tv would care enough to have a best writing award
I'd say a GOTY stands out in some way. Doesn't need to be gameplay, doesn't need to be everything. Spec Ops could be a runner up, since it's story and the dev's statements on multiplayer are a fresh look at how war is depicted in videogames.
It's an interactive media though. If the gameplay itself isn't particularly noteworthy then how can it be game of the year? Like the above said, story of the year? writing of the year? characters of the year? Maybe. But not really game. Better experiences came out this year.
Poor spike tv. console games are all they know.

No, all spike T BUY MOUNTAIN DEW GAMER FUEL V knows is how to get given the big dollars. And the big dollars are in console games.
Journey should win GOTY I think.
And definitely should win best original score.
Wait why's everyone saying the PC games are bad? I heard Guild Wars 2 was good at least...
If we were judging Spec Ops by it's content it would be a decently constructed third person shooter with an interesting setting and a sort of interesting story.
Not a bad game, but not really GOTY material. Gameplay should carry more than story.
The gameplay conveyed the whole point of the game perfectly, it just wasn't fun but the fun isn't a necessary core to the game. Just look at survival horror games, they aren't fun, are they?
Sad that Spec Ops: The Line isn't on there. I would pick TWD as GOTY

And we can't forget the atrocity that was "Best indie game fueled by mountain dew"
Sponsored by Mountain Dew and Doritos.
Also, I can almost guarantee you that someone was paid to get ME3 on the list.
As if the VGAs have any authority.
Oh. well, just another gaming thing down the shitter.
I love how borderlands 2 was a huge huge thing and it was really good, and Mass effect was huge but the biggest piece of shit thrown out there.
3 titles on that list though are good, but borderlands should be up there.
Frankly, the small amount of great games released in 2012 makes Mass Effect 3 a worthy nominee.
The only good thing about the VGAs are those little videos of the characters accepting the rewards, in my opinion.
The spaghetti from celebrities pretending to be gamers and doing wacky gaming things (lol a man in military wear walked onstage and teabagged the host!!!!1) was pretty entertaining
I really want a second /V/GA tho

Hi, I loved the ME2 gameplay. I played it 11 times, 7 consecutively. It wasn't groundbreaking but it was pretty tightly put together and a hell of a lot more fun than ME1's.
If Tears by Health doesn't win Best Song in a Game then this is all a sham.
I thought of Spike from Spike & Barley Play
I hope Journey or The Walking Dead wins then, they're the most unique games in those nominees.
But who cares about Spike anyways, it's all about popularity and what made the most money in the end.
i really do think Journey deserves to win
It's not a terrible list, this year has just been pretty underwhelming.
As far as uniqueness goes, I don't have a problem with a sequel winning if it's still a fun game. Honestly, I would probably vote Halo 4 myself.
i really do think Journey deserves to win
But it probably won't sadly.
oh my god what the FUCK are they wearing.
GOTY Nexus
I would be pretty shocked if Journey won because it seems so under the radar. I've heard literally nothing about it since announced and didn't even know it was out.
I can't see anything really wrong with the list save Mass Effect 3, I still think there are much better canidates for that list but whatever.
Looks like AAA titles are lacking this year.

It's the highest selling game ever on PSN, so it's (reasonably) well-known.

You're taking the position that it didn't start there.
