• Spike announces GOTY nominees, it's not a good list.

Wait, people here are saying The Walking Dead is the GOTY? I never even looked it up because licensed games being shit is the rule, especially when they are based on an average show/film (it was ok but nothing really awesome, average filler show really).
I don't think ME3 deserves to be up there. Well not for GOTY, but I don't mind it for other Spike awards

And it's probably one of the best story based games i've ever played.
I'm actually really impressed that three of the five nominees for GOTY are all new IPs, obviously Walking Dead isn't a new IP but it's not a sequel of a game. Just the fact that Black Ops 2 and Halo 4 aren't up for GOTY is really impressive. If Journey or Walking Dead win I'll be blown away, even more so if the Spike VGA isn't the usual shitshow of blatant advertising and horrible hosting.
Max Payne 3 should atleast be mentioned
I think Dishonored and The Walking Dead both deserve to be up there.
Dishonored's fine, But Call of Duty? It's been out for less than 2 weeks, and it's a copy paste from a game that was released 5 times now and has NOTHING in it that hasn't been done 3 times before by the same series Haven't tried Walking Dead but I hear good things. The list this year is just fluffy bullshit judged by biased fans of their beloved series
Dishonored is good but it's not very original It's basically Thief + magic The setting and production design are fucking awesome, though
Well if you've played Thief 2 you've pretty much played a much better version of Dishonored (with actual stealth mechanics as opposed to Dishonored's "stealth"). ME3 was VERY disappointing and the rest of those games are barely memorable. (Should note I have not played Journey yet)
Not really, Borderlands 2 is more of the same. The same is awesome, but it hasn't evolved at all.
Borderlands 2 offered more change than either ME3, BO2 or AC3, actually. [editline]18th November 2012[/editline] also, just noticed spec ops the line is only mentioned in best human male performance
Not really, Borderlands 2 is more of the same. The same is awesome, but it hasn't evolved at all.
Borderlands 2 was a massive fucking improvement over borderlands 1. What are you on about.
AC 3 really isn't GOTY material, it's a good game but it's completely unpolished and it feels like there's a lot of features missing
The soundtrack was amazing though.

If you want to see copy/paste try MW3.
Dishonored is an okay game for me, not a GOTY, in the same time I think that ACIII and ME3 are in the right place. AC3 is just awesome, so is ME3. I still play multiplayer sometimes... They should add XCOM definitely. This game is epic, and one of the most memorable and original games I've played this year. Borderlands 2 should be there too, it fucking must be there.

I would rather games like Xcom or Hitman Absolution get the GOTY award for actually being challenging, unlike practically every other game released this year.
You're taking the position that it didn't start there.
it didn't tbh, even though the awards have always been "most popular" with different names
Well if you've played Thief 2 you've pretty much played a much better version of Dishonored (with actual stealth mechanics as opposed to Dishonored's "stealth"). Every game on the GOTY list was at least a memorable experience for me. Sure AC3 and ME3 had their issues, even Dishonored had some problems, but they were good games and I'm very glad to see three new games, two of which are small studio games, up on a Spike GOTY list as opposed to this years harvest of AAA sequels. Where's this list of suitable games that came out this year that would meet your stringent GOTY criteria?
I loved Dishonored, I haven't played The Walking Dead series.
The Walking Dead had me hooked, I just bought it. Clementine's voice actor deserves a win.
Walking Dead is probably my GOTY. One of the most touching games I've played 2012, if not in my lifetime.
Spike... for the love God... every fucking year you do this. Stop putting "BEST <CONSOLE> GAME" categories when the games you chose are fucking multi-platform releases. Jesus christ.

Jackson chats with Access' Shaun Robinson about hosting Spike TV's Video Game Awards 2012. What was the first video game he ever played? And, is a big fan of video games? Plus, which games does he love playing today?
I can't embed the video, sorry.
I think Dishonored and The Walking Dead both deserve to be up there.
Dishonored was great, but I'd have to respectfully offer a differing opinion. GOTYs should be something classic, replayable, refreshing and (kinda) lengthy. Dishonored fell into most of these categories, but despite the false-freedoms, I felt it was still pretty linear and the story was ridiculously short. Don't get me wrong, it had some amazing twists, abilities, and such. And as hard as it was to be pure stealth, if you ever switched to pure combat, the game got hilariously easy. :v: Then again, if there was nothing else spectacular, I don't see why not. 2012 hasn't been a ground-shaking year of gaming.
I think we need another Vidya Games Awards from 4chan.
It seems to be in the works already. http://vidyagaemawards.com/home
the walking dead is a great game
