I'm also getting a little sick of a character being anything other than white, straight, and/or male being a character trait that has nothing to do with their backstory. Their gender, ethnicity and/or sexual preference has no significance on the story unless a moment in their lives surrounding their gender, ethnicity and/or sexual preference makes them who they are.
All you have to do is have a character act like anyone else, just with a slight difference, as if they're a normal human being. Just don't announce it as if its this giant thing.
honestly it might sound like a stupid thing
but lgbt representation in media is VERY important for lgbt kids especially when growing up, helps them all not have to deal with stuff like for example internal homo-, transphobia when growing up cause not seeing people like themself anywhere makes it seem like being lgbt is a bad thing.. especially when we already have bunch of other people being very negative towards lgbt things/people
i'm pretty happy to see comics adding stuff like this and actually making it clear and canon
and, surprise surprise, most of the people who bitch and complain about "useless" changes like catwoman bi were probably represented plenty when they were growing up so they don't see the significance.

Straight white men aren't the default human though
I fully support LGQT or whatever order it goes in but do comic books seriously have to start making everything "equal".
It's like they're trying to find an excuse to make a character gay or bi or whatever or to try and give them a transsexual or transracial treatment.
what
So like, some of you guys are against making a character gay or bi for no reason because its irrelevant.
Why don't we just assume every character is asexual until their sexuality has some relevance to the plot then? Works out better for everyone that way because then there's no "default" sexuality.
Wouldn't your idea result in asexuality being the "default" sexuality?
this reminds me of this gem

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be variety in characters, I'm saying that people's skin color, gender, or sexual prefrences shouldn't be considered a character trait or character development in place or real character traits and character development.
Typical writing tropes, still not a bad fit though. I like it.
"character development"
Except it isn't, it's been known she's bi since the 90s, they just didn't beat anyone over the head with it.

See, there.
Just go to the doctor and change your race.
All your problems fixed.

Ah, my apologies. Bad reading on my part.
This is what upsets me about the Miles Morales Spiderman and how people were upset about that. It totally wasn't shoehorned, it was another character who became Spiderman who was also black, and perhaps that might come up once in a while, but beyond that it's the same old Spiderman, albeit with whatever changes also come with a new alter-ego character. Some people thought they did it on purpose for diversity or whatever, which may be true, but they weren't doing it exclusively for that reason. The fact that they're expected to have a reason for it at all is damaging.

Catwoman has been implicitly bisexual for a long time, this just makes it explicit.
The people who get mad about this kind of stuff (female Thor, black Spiderman, etc) always seem to be the people with absolutely no knowledge about the characters in the first place. And usually not a part of said minority. I'm not sure which says more.

Do you not think that relationships affect who you are? All of those things you mentioned make someone who they are.

I agree for the most part, but I would have rather seen a female Norse deity get their own stage rather than turning Thor into a female. The only reason being is that hypermasculinity is part of Thor's persona.

Marvel Thor isn't Norse mythology Thor. Marvel can do whatever they want with the character. It's just whoever can wield Mjolnir.

Marvel Thor had hypermasculinity as a character trait as well. I think if they were going to change the sex of a character, I think Captain America would have been a better choice.

I don't need to be a woman to see that this is plain awful. I also don't like your insinuation that a person's opinion means less based on their race/gender/sexuality/creed.

I mean, come on. If your really that delusional that they are doing this for the sake of diversity or making a statement - they are doing this for sales.
Or they are running out of ideas. Probably the latter.
So any whining about this, then the whining at people who are angry - the people who are angry are probably more in the right.
[editline]a[/editline]
Yeah bullshit explain to me how they are doing this for diversity guy xxncxx , if your so sure that they aren't doing this just for sales.

I am simply requesting you explain your rating. But obviously, you can't, so you have to attack me on my profile. That's sweet. If your not going to respond - then don't.
[editline]a[/editline]
You know what : Nevermind. Don't respond. It's pretty clear your not interested in formal discussion. Hide behind your ratings - because clearly you have the energy to post on my profile but not to counter my argument... please don't harass me anymore.
They should just make a new line of Harley and Ivy comics.
Guest starring shadman.

If Shadman drew comics for Marvel it would be just be page after page of gore and horrifying fetishes :v:

There isn't much thought behind the new Thor, I think it's pretty gimmicky. They did good with Ms. Marvel and Miles though.
I thought that they would reskin them and ignore their cultural background entirely, but I was pretty surprised. For Ms Marvel, they even recognized the "no shoes in the house" custom. One relative of the female lead wore bunny slippers, but it's still acceptable since it's not an "outside" shoe. It wasn't mentioned loudly, but it was a cool detail to have.

who the fuck thought it was a good idea to have her win her first fight through pity
like she doesn't even get to actually win a single fight by her own strength in the entire first issue
they should make a character for me
I'm a straight white man and I want a character I can relate too
All the straight white men in comics and video games are too handsome. Nathan Drake is out of my league and fucking Big Boss sets an unrealistic expectation
I want a guy who is way too scrawny who somehow has chest fat and doesn't do anything but consume chips
Straight white men aren't the default human though
but they ARE the majority of comic book readers

It would be weird if comic book writers started inserting themselves into the comics
It would be weird if comic book writers started inserting themselves into the comics
maybe we would actually get some good stories then
I'll take an accurate self insert over a gary stu any day.
but they ARE the majority of comic book readers
That's becoming less the case. And it's in the best interest of Comic producers to attract as many groups as possible if they can do so without violating what makes their comic good.

i agree but i don't see how making a character gay is "violating" anything
i agree but i don't see how making a character gay is "violating" anything
It isn't.
I'm not surprised in the very slightest. Catwoman has always struck me as the type to fuck whatever strikes her fancy be it man, woman, or robot.
