What do you call Skyrim, then?
Oblivion was astounding when it came out.
[editline]5th August 2011[/editline]
By "ruined their games" you mean made literally 2 games on the Gamebryo engine, after which they created their own engine to make up for the bad parts of Gamebryo.
Notch refuses to fix anything in his game, and when a MODDER makes something better then Notch does, he simply incorporates it into the game like it was all his idea.
He never did that, stop making shit up.
Notch/Jeb told the people that the pistons were based upon a mod, and that they tried to make it different from it so that the mod creator could continue his work.
Notch refuses to fix anything in his game? Are you a butthurt fanboy or something?
He fixed loads of stuff.
Notch should send a Scroll to Bethesda saying "Im sorry, So I wrote it on a scroll"
Good.
Notch doesn't deserve a cent of the money he has "earned".
He made a gimmick, a mediocre browser based autism simulator, which wasn't even original in the first place. Minecraft was fun for all of 30 minutes. After the initial period of you building a house, there is literally nothing else to do except grind away in darkness so you can build your splendid fortress of autism.
Nowadays Notch just sits around, leeching off the little effort he made a while ago.
Talk about getting off topic. I'm not sure if you're trolling or not, if you are trying, remember this :
“Permaban me if you see me trolling”
Edit:
Re-read your post, be a little more rational please.
If they mention autism in a negative way in a post about minecraft, its trolling.

LOL MINECRAFT AUTISM LOLOL YEEEEAAA- No.
Seriously grow up, being creative and using your imagination doesn't mean you have autism.
By that logic every game creator, artist, movie producer, and tv producers all have autism.
I'm gonna trademark trademarks so I can sue anyone who tries to sue anyone for trademarks.

TV Producers, most likely.

This post is so stupid.
1.This is not good, Bethesda is suing for bullshit reasons, and even if Notch and everything he made is shit, that bullshit should not fly.
2.Who are you to decide what Notch does and does not deserve? He only made a fucking game and sold it for like 20 bucks.
3.You don't know what a gimmick is, do you?
4.Making fun of autistics is an asshole act. It wouldn't fly if I made fun of cripples or cancer victims, that shouldn't be okay either.
5.Browser based? Bro it has an executable fucking window, just like every game. Browser based is an option.
6.You don't have to be original to be good.
7.Minecraft isn't fun in the first 30 minutes because you spend that time getting fucking started. You can't be wow'd in that time.
8.That's what is good about Minecraft. You make things bigger and better to your standards. Just because a game isn't super complex and violent doesn't mean it's bad. Also, your opinion is not fact.
9.Yeah, Notch is totally sitting around. That's why we're getting updates that add rain and shit to the game. That's why there's progress on making Minecraft more adventurous, with new mobs, NPC villages, and all that shit. Yep.
10.ENOUGH WITH THE FUCKING AUTISM.
Actually its because minecraft triggers a thing in your brain to want to make everything symmetrical.
Also I'm not trolling. I hate minecraft because it spawned a horde of people thinking it was a revolutionary, world changing game, who think Notch is god.
When really they could just be playing with Legos and getting the same effect.
Hey hey hey, Bethesda themselves didn't decide on this, their shitty lawyers did.
Lawyers work for certain clients. While there's a number of law firms that specialise in trademark and copyright disputes and essentially have very very broad contracts with certain right holders about enforcing their trademarks (usually the case of various internet piracy specialised law firms) when it comes to companies using seperate names for seperate products, there's usually a lot of copyright holder interaction involved.
My best guess is, that this is essentially a scare tactic. Bethesda is trying to get Notch to give up the name even before the suite commences. If that fails, they essentially have to plink down relatively low court costs so it's in the end a no-risk situation for them.
Hence why big copyright holders usually just target small companies with this. Since those tend to have weak if any legal teams and very often do their best to avoid any kind of legal action. In part due to the fact that the legal fees for them are substantially more hurting.
But considering how big a name Notch and Minecraft is these days, I can easily see him getting free legal advice and care even if he had none till now for this. So he essentially has a flawless win case, so won't be required to pay any legal fees in the end.
Again this is rarely a lawyers decision. This is company policy. Plus it always looks good when the shareholders read how their company enforced it's copyright.
I dont see why everyones hating on Bethesda, obviously the game devs learnt just sitting around and decided to sue and indie company, their lawyers are at the head of this

Doesn't mean you need to come in the thread and say that you hate it. You're just asking for trouble and, well, generally being a douche about it.
I dislike the TES series but I don't go into every thread about Skyrim and say how much I hate it :v:

Okay first of all making everything symmetrical? The fuck are you even talking about? Also while Notch's game isn't revolutionary, people love it because it manages to be amazing, while simple at the same time, as well as a nice break from games with huge plotlines, gritty graphics, and loads of gore.

Fun fact: I can run all Elder Scrolls in a browser.
Does that make it a mediocre browser based game?

Actually most of the games these days have tiny plotlines.

Every building I ever constructed in Minecraft would like to have a word with you.
Skyrim looks very streamlined and consolised.
Oblivion was outstanding for people who had never played an RPG before and do not appreciate good writing or a good realised world in their games. If it was that good it would be outstanding now but it's not.
Whats wrong with consolized?
Can only people who sit in their basements and play PC games 24/7 play games?
PC gamers need to realize that they aren't a "master race" because other people wanna play games too.
Scrolls.
Whoops.
Every building I ever constructed in Minecraft would like to have a word with you.
It doesn't trigger symmetricalness. It's just that everything is made out of blocks, and symmetricalness appeals to the human mind, so therefore many people do it.
I have to laugh at the people calling Bethesda assholes yet they're going to buy Skyrim anyway.
And yet you don't realize that Civilization 4 was made on Gamebryo.
At least Betheseda gave a bit of effort and made their own engine instead of using java.
java isn't an engine :downs:

The problem is a lot of the time companies hire a lawyer to be the head of their legal division. The lawyer's still a lawyer, he just directs other lawyers to make money.
So it's still a lawyer move.
Bethesda may develop and publish some damn fine games, but suing a little indie developer just because an upcoming game had one common word in common with their game

"little"
I have to laugh at the people calling Bethesda assholes yet they're going to buy Skyrim anyway.
Not me, I can guarantee you.
This must be the higher ups, not the developers.
This is most likely what's going on. I truly doubt Todd and the team would even care whether or not "Scrolls" is trademarked while they're busy at work developing games.
"little"
Compared to Bethesda yes.
Not compared to other indie devs no, but compared to Bethesda yes.
Not me, I can guarantee you.
Of course sir, not doubting you for a second.
WHY YOU SHOULD STILL BUY SKYRIM AND NOT SUDDENLY HATE BETHESDA:
Just so some people would know.

They made Oblivion, Fallout 3, Morrowind and working on Skyrim.

They mostly deal with legal stuff and are responsible for publishing Rage, Brink, Wet etc.
So yeah, stop the dumb comments on how your not going to get skyrim because of this etc etc.
I do agree that this is a stupid lawsuit though.

Not me, I can guarantee you.
So you are not going to buy a game because of the actions of a completely separate branch of the company are being douchey.
Completely rational.
