Wow is Bethesda trying to play hardball? I mean they already got hacked by Lulzsec, why are you pissed at a harmless Indie company? They didn't do anything nor threatened you. Bethesda should just relax, what did come to mind to me was that Notch and Tom sat down and spoke to one another that one day. Not sure where the video is, probably easy to find it on Google but still. Bethesda calm down.
Bethesda SOFTWORKS is just mad for some reason, hopefully this is ignored in court.
;31559480']I hate minecraft. Its boring, nothing ever happens. The graphics are terribly outdated and so are the gameplay mechanics.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....
REAAALLY?
Its almost as if he... *GASP* DID IT ON PURPOSE!
Did you never play minecraft in the early days of its existance? Because if you did you would have remembered how often updates came and how fast the game developed.
Oh no the game isn't updated often oh no there is a massive update in the works oh no it sucks because it's not updated often oh no
Go bethesda. Your games are better and not made in java.
Oh no Minecraft is made in Java, GO BETHESDA YOU GO SUE THEM FOR A RETARDED REASON!!!!
Oh no the game isn't updated often oh no there is a massive update in the works oh no it sucks because it's not updated often oh no
And it is going to be the last worthwhile update for probably atleast a year.
Not to mention that excuse has been used every beta update.
What's actually stupid is how little Notch works on his game.
Really?
He coded a game from scratch using Java, by himself.
Bethesda used a lot of guys to make a game, using an engine that already had everything they needed.
And you think Notch did less than Bethesda?
Notch brings updates out, adds in new stuff for free and goes around the world.
Bethesda brings out a game using an engine, fix a couple bugs and never look back at it.
This lawsuit is totally justified.
I mean, look at the confusion it could cause:

I like how the "Elder scrolls" part is nearly as small as the copyright itself
Bethesda uses Gamebryo
Don't talk about coding quality
I don't remember skyrim going to use Gamebryo.
Here comes the minecraft haters and people that have no point.
Map, you clearly bought the game during beta, because you weren't around for last summers weekly friday updates. Notch actually updated the game EVERY WEEK, with something new to do.
I have no point? Bah, you just don't know what you're talking about.

What does Bethesda's work ethic have to do with it?
At least Bethesda didn't make over 11 Million Dollars off a game still in beta.
Yeah Bethesda is being stupid suing Notch, but you guys act like he hasn't already lined every wall, his floor and ceiling in his house with money.
I'm pretty sure he is going to handle this well, because he always handles things like this well.
It doesn't excuse him from working on his game though.
I thought there was a law against copyrighting generic words? For example, Kleenex and Xerox are currently worried about being forced to change their company names due to the words being commonly used in place of "tissue" and "photocopy".
I hope Bethesda isn't trying to become the next Activision-Blizzard. After all, they're already overseeing the development of a Fallout MMO.
You see I like Bethesda

okay, that's nice, can we please talk about the issue at hand
This reminds me of when Facebook trademarketed the word 'Face'

It isn't a copyright infringement, it is a trademark infringement. The difference being is a trademark is something you have to pay for and defend. If Bethesda doesn't defend against something that is similar to their trademark they can lose that trademark.
I tried it when the payment servers went down so I could play the full version with a friend.
I thought you could go in there and build anything. Then my friend said "LOLNO, it's called MINEcraft, silly. You have to sit here for a few hours clicking block after block after block before you build! Make sure you save often, or you'll go back to zero!"
So I got a pickaxe... and after five minutes it broke. Repeat the process for a few hours...
Yeah.... nope. I'll go play with my LEGOs instead.
I played Oblivion. I got a sword and hit a bunch of things until they died, and then I died. Worst game ever. Mindless reductionism is fun!
Lawyers are once again displaying how disconnected they are from their own brains.
"You used the word 'The' in your title. I'm suing you, hurrr."

Grow up and stop making poor excuses. I bought the game way before beta. Oh no he doesn't update often since alpha, that makes no sense he doesn't deserve to have a life he doesn't deserve to make big updates he has to make them every week omg go go go
Grow up and stop making poor excuses. I bought the game way before beta. Oh no he doesn't update often since alpha, that makes no sense he doesn't deserve to have a life he doesn't deserve to make big updates he has to make them every week omg go go go
Hence, there is a reason why minecraft is still in BETA.
Hence, there is a reason why minecraft is still in BETA.
Just because a game is in BETA doesn't mean it has to get updates every week.
Grow up and stop making poor excuses. I bought the game way before beta. Oh no he doesn't update often since alpha, that makes no sense he doesn't deserve to have a life he doesn't deserve to make big updates he has to make them every week omg go go go
We aren't saying that he has to have content updates every week, we are saying that hissupdates have become poorer and less frequent since forming a company which is the exact opposite of what was supposed to happen. The Friday updates are used as an example to show that.
Just because a game is in BETA doesn't mean it has to get updates every week.
They would be sueing Notch for his title being 1 part of their name, but they'd have the full name of his trademarked game in their title.
And yet you don't realize that Civilization 4 was made on Gamebryo.
At least Betheseda gave a bit of effort and made their own engine instead of using java.
You realise Java is not a game engine, everything in Minecraft except the opengl and java bindings is created by Notch and his team.
And Bethesda never made Gamebryo, they hardly modified it either. So to be honest, it's Notch you should be praising because at least he did something to get his game up and running.
How about i trademark trademarking and then i can roll in the cash money problem solve
Just because a game is in BETA doesn't mean it has to get updates every week.
Excuse me, but how LONG has the game been in BETA already?
Excuse me, but how LONG has the game been in BETA already?
Longer than the drapes on my wall. Fucking long.
Excuse me, but how LONG has the game been in BETA already?
Excuse me, but does it matter how LONG it has been in BETA?
It's been in Beta for a few months...that's not long at all. It was in pre-alpha for longer.
Excuse me, but does it matter how LONG it has been in BETA?
Yes. Cause it's been out so long, that it should just be a regular game.
See how lazy Notch is? Still, what Bethesda is doing is uncool.
Most people forget that Minecraft is even in Beta. It's basically a full game as it is, just with some bugs and updates to it pretty often.
Anyways, this lawsuit is silly and probably won't go anywhere. I'm glad Notch is being impartial and mature about it, in any case.
I no longer have any faith in the gaming industry.
Bethesda was one of the last few companies I trusted, but apparently even they are incapable of not being greedy, blood-sucking assholes. I refuse to believe they honestly think that "Scrolls" and "The Elder Scrolls" could be confused by ANYONE, especially since the series is usually referred to by the preceding title, e.g. "Oblivion," "Morrowind," "Daggerfall."
I was even thinking about actually purchasing Skyrim because Bethesda was one of the only companies I thought deserved my money. Apparently this is not so.
I don't even like Minecraft, not a fan of Notch either, but I can't condone this kind of bullying from a large company towards a small team of up-and-coming developers.

And that it's written in Java. Fucking Java.
Do you know how mind-blowing it was to find out that a game like that could be written in Java?
