Coca Cola's 'America the Beautiful' Super Bowl commercial stirs anger

what pisses me off about this entire thing is that like... america was literally built on other cultures. there really isn't an american culture, but rather a lot of cultures amassed into one.

Dear racist,
Your car is Japanese. Your beer is German. Your wine is Spanish. Your democracy is Greek. Your coffee is Colombian. Your tea is Chinese. Your watch is Swiss. Your fashion is French. Your shirt is Indian. Your shoes are Thai. Your radio is Korean. Your vodka is Russian. And then you complain that your neighbor is an immigrant?
Sincerely, lets just all live and let live
This quote comes to mind, fuck these people.
actually surprised there wasn't a part in Spanish in that commercial, considering it's the second most spoken language in the US.
Not to mention you can pick up any 3 items in your house at random and on average none of them will say Made in the USA on them

Oh how wrong you are. People just impulse buy cheap shit and do not look for it. The only things in my house that was not made in USA is the silverware (Taiwan) Drinking glasses (France) Television (Japan) Bookshelf (Canada) Replica Colt .45 Peacemaker (Spain) Replica Volcanic 10 (Spain) Replica Colt Pocket Pistol (Spain) Replica 'Potato Masher' Grenade (Spain) Authentic Chemical Gas Mask (Russia) Authentic German WWII Paratrooper boot knife (Germany) Everything else in my house was made in USA. If I can not find a certian item made in USA I do all research I can to find the best next in line for quality and price. If it's $65 for France glasses but $15 for China glasses, I'm paying for the ones in France.
Edit:
Looks like I'm dumb for purchasing quality items instead of cheap quantity items.
"It's official Jimmy, the'migrants have taken over!"
I want to punch all the fuckers who saw this commercial and pulled the "THIS IS AMERICA: SPEAK ENGLISH!" bullshit.
What kind of humorless, egomaniacal fuck can see a clear and unambiguous message about the inclusiveness that defines America, and say it's DIVisive, or that those cultures don't matter because the racial majority has spoken.
Oh, excuse me: FORMER racial majority. You dipshits be lucky it's not all being sung in Spanish, gringo.

Love Maddox, his wit is nearly infinite.
Nothing is more American than immigration.

i really don't understand why people say this
the commercial in case you missed it.

That is a really heartwarming ad.
The ad actually seemed kind of weird to me. I thought the horror movie strings were about to come in at any second.
oh no other cultures i'm mellltiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnngggg

Yeah because 80% of a country that speaks English and only 12.5% Spanish it's very clear that it should be sung in all Spanish.
Pepsi is better.
Still I don't see anything wrong with the commercial and it just shows how much of a melting pot we are.
Oh and Glenn Beck is an idiot.
We're not a melting pot you ignorant swine. We're a salad bowl where we all mix together really well but we can still be individual and different all while keeping our heritage a big part of our selves.
Pretty much proves that America is xenophobic to the extreme.

Salad!? And you call yourself an American!

Well if one was to be extremely anal about it, we legally don't have an official language. That's being anal about it, however English is pretty much our de facto national language.

Senate 2006, English is official language, until then we've never had an official one before.

I think this is a reflection of some people's fears of what they see happening. The US was this place where people like them(white) ran everything and people spoke like them(English). But they have seen these last couple of generations more diverse people standing up and demanding to be included in things. I'm referring to things like civil rights and women't rights. Change is scary.
For Coke, an icon of the previously idealized white America, to come out with a commercial during the holiest of America's holy tv shows and say "Only white and English is real America? Meh" is terrifying to them.
Did anyone else see this coming? They started singing in other languages and I was thinking "Fox News is gonna be all over this commercial".

The only thing I've been able to find relating to that article and this is the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 which only passed in the Senate (Which is stated in the article you listed) and not in the House, where it subsequently died. That includes the amendment to the bill which would have made English the official national language.
Neither bill became law because the two Houses were not able to reach an agreement to go to a conference committee. The end of the 109th Congress (January 3, 2007) marked the defeat of both bills.

The amendment was passed by the Senate on May 18, 2006 by a vote of 62-35.[1] The bill did not pass the United States House of Representatives.
A large population of American Republicans want Inter-racial marriage illegal. Its not really surprising that little stuff like this enrages them.

Did you even read your own article? The original amendment was backed almost entirely by the Republican senators and didn't go outside the Senate. Afterwards, the same senators passed a watered-down version that also didn't go anywhere:
Muddying the waters further, the Senate then passed by a 58-39 margin a more moderate amendment that declares English merely to be the "common unifying language of the US".
If you go and check any proper source you'll see there is no federal-level official language.
Everyone gets angry at Coke. Don't they realize this is all the work of the juice?
I really disliked the commercial because it paints this beautiful picture of diversity and shows that America is a melting pot of cultures in a cool/unique way and then they're like
drink coca-cola
it makes the original message completely meaningless when you try to capitalize off it.
All coke is saying is that no matter where you're from or what language you speak you can love America. Nothing wrong with that.
commercials should be about the product. that had nothing to do with coke

fucking automerge
I thought it was well done and tasteful.
