Coca Cola's 'America the Beautiful' Super Bowl commercial stirs anger
I understand what you're trying to say, but 'de facto official' is a complete oxymoron because 'de facto' essentially requires it to be unofficial.
20% of the US population does not speak English at home, and part of the culture of multiculturalism is appreciating diversity even in the presence of a 'standard'.
My bad on that, didn't even notice I said that.
Still, saying that one language is more characteristic of your country, or acknowledging the fact that it's more widely spoken does not mean you're disregarding the United States' multiculturalism. You can embrace English as the de facto language of the US without that being detrimental to its diversity. Thinking that accepting a huge part of your culture means rejecting the other is ridiculous.
xenophobes inbound
Also drink our soda.
yeah yeah I know but I was talking about the message, not the brand. I don't think the nay-sayers are really angry at Coca-Cola either, just their ad.
also the frozen soda that inspired my user name 14 years ago was a coke.
No, it's just facepunch being a bunch of babies because owning a gas mask is "edgy" now and making fun of "edgy" people is the new thing people do to try to fit in since calling each other "nerds" doesn't really work here on a video game forum.
I bought the mask because I dressed as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for Halloween a couple years ago to pass out candy.
I find the idea of calling one person "American" while excluding someone else laughable. My country was built on the shoulders of immigrants from other lands.

Nice first post, welcome to the forum.
Video is garbage. I dont think its an attempt to troll people, its just people being ignorant as fuck about america.
Computer custom made in USA.
Eh?
Even all your components?
The PCBs, the capacitors, every single microchip and material in your computer was made in the USA?
That doesn't seem possible...
That isn't what I had meant
My post was about the converse of: English is the largest fish in the pond ergo the other fish are irrelevant, and was intended as a direct shot at O'Reilly who claimed that the Coke ad was divisive
Fair enough, though you should probably point that out next time, because without that explanation or context it just sounds odd

It's pretty damn hard and expensive as fuck.
I get chastised for not speaking English in public when I'm speaking English.
It's not my fault that I was born in Scotland you fucking gits.

While calling English the de facto language of the US may not divide us more, I think Medevila still has a point. It's pretty ridiculous to get up in arms about a patriotic song being sung in a language other than English. And I think it's down right xenophobic to call the commercial anti-American or say it promotes terrorism.

The original Americans? Doesn't he understand that there was a black slave population in America before the revolution even happened or that alot of these freed slaves, for some insane reason decided to actually fight against the British despite promises to end slavery?

It's not supposed to represent the entire country. Keep up with the thread.

I'm sorry, I worded that poorly. I meant that I don't think the views of some republicans in Mississippi represent views of republicans across the country.

Well technically Rangergxi just said a "large population". Everyones definition of large is going to be different (conservatives in this case will say that it's absolutely not large :v:) but a significant chunk of voters in two die-hard GOP states is large enough for me to be concerned.
Hahahaha, what the fuck?
US is one the most multi cultural countries of the world and part of its power is thanks to the massive influx of european inmigrants it got during the 19th century.
Now, I agree there should be a common denominator between all cultures in the US.
Having eight hundred different cultures but that cannot relate to each other and are isolated from is each other can be quite....dangerous. Is just like having the world at home but with no different flags.

If you, Medevila, and the rest of the White liberals are so ashamed to be American, please feel free to leave anytime.
the commercial in case you missed it.

how dare coca cola promote these brown people and their demon tongue
If you, Medevila, and the rest of the White liberals are so ashamed to be American, please feel free to leave anytime.
Who said anything about being ashamed to be American? Part of the supposed American ideal is being inclusive. Of course more people speak English than any other language in the US, so most media and news are in English, but that's all it is. If you go to somewhere in the US where everyone speaks Chinese or Spanish, then that is what you will find.

Nothing new since the advent of social media, people always feel the need to air out their half-baked, erroneous, and frankly downright stupid opinions where they feel everybody will hear. The worse part is the number of retweets and followers most statements of this nature seem to have.
On Monday, polling firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) revealed that 29 percent of likely GOP voters surveyed in Mississippi believe that interracial marriage should be illegal. 29 percent of republicans in the deep south is hardly a huge amount, so it really looks like you just pulled the whole "large amount" thing right out of nowhere
the really outrageous thing is that they stole the idea from canada

shit why did i read large as majority, ill go edit that
