No, it's just facepunch being a bunch of babies because owning a gas mask is "edgy" now and making fun of "edgy" people is the new thing people do to try to fit in since calling each other "nerds" doesn't really work here on a video game forum.
owning a gasmask isn't edgy, it's dumb it's been dumb since like, 2006
I hope you realize probably 50% of all silicon fabs in existance are not in the US
And the places in the US sure as shit aren't producing the consumer grade chips we buy. They might be making the prototypes and testing RTM builds of the silicon, but they never make it to your computer. Maybe if your PC is a specialist system that needs specific types of processor made or what have you, but not general Intel/ AMD stuff.
-snip- fuck this idk why i even posted in the first place
Oh please do share some of these amazing computer parts
Man, have you ever used a Model M?
its fucking america we dont need 7 other fucking languages coca cola you piece of shit. now i know this country started from immigrants but still primary language is English. if we can speak it, those that dont can learn it too. nicotine withdrawals are so fucked i had to edit my post because the foulness was so bad.
The insane ramblings of a patriot
The insane ramblings of a patriot
I'm far from a patriot i hate all people even my own
Why yes I can, because I built the fucking thing. Bought all parts from the shop down the street where he makes them from his own factory.
Oh, you actually are serious. Well I'd call bullshit on everything you've said, no idea why anyone is taking him remotely seriously. He most likely has at most a $1,200 computer that he had someone else build. Even if you did manage to scrape enough money together to buy top end parts (all made in Asia) it'd be outdated in 6 months and antiquated in 6 years regardless of where it was made. I can just imagine a guy at a local computer shop feeding this idiot. "Tell me about the case" "Well, to start off, you've got a 1/4" methyl methacrylate transparent side panel secured with 14, count them, 14, stainless steal fine threaded American fasteners, with finely crafted hexagonal bolts, machined in a cutting edge Amish factory, the methacrylate is equipped with a peel away thin continuous polymeric material to preserve the crystal clear viewing access to the internal components." "All made in the United States?" "The United States? I'll do you one better, all hand made by the Amish. Guaranteed no migrant workers have touched this case."

Hell, my great grandmother was second generation, and she hated speaking her parent's language. Even if people speaking languages other than English were a problem (which it isn't), it isn't permanent in any way.
You realize that most third+ generation immigrants usually only speak English, right? Hell, my great grandmother was second generation, and she hated speaking her parent's language.
well no but thats cool, what was the language?
One of my conservative friends nearly flipped his shit over this friggen commercial. After seeing it myself my only response to him was that I'm surprised he's getting this tooter-ticked over a fucking commercial, and that I was surprised he wasn't congratulating them for not cutting "God" out of the song.
well no but thats cool, what was the language?
German. Considering she grew up in the '20s and '30s, it's not surprising she disliked it. Still, the school she went to spoke all-German, the church services she attended were German, German was what was spoken in the home, etc. etc. The same thing happened to Gaelic after a lot of the Irish immigrant families had been here awhile. Their kid's kids thought of themselves as American, rather than Irish. I'm fifth-gen German, and I see myself as American. The only German I know consists of profanity.
Good for you, so what if you want to spend $500 for one. Could last a year could last ten years. People in the world find it abnormal for people to purchase or invest in something that they find foolish. My point is, if you have the money, get what you enjoy, build what you want, or invest in what you want. I wanted a high lasting computer, so I dished it out. I wanted a collection of Western Replica six-shooters so I dished it out. People mock me constantly which I find funny because they are complaining constantly that whatever they bought didn't last. You get exactly what you paid for. "Well you're an idiot for spending that on a computer." So then by that logic it's stupid to buy ANYTHING when it comes down to it.
i have $20 and i want a slave since you're so good at buying things please, direct me to one.
It was $3,500 just for the fans and cooling system for the graphics cards.
That's too vague, I wanted proof to your claim that everything in your computer is from America because I seriously don't believe that. I don't care about the prices.
I think a common language is one of the most fundamental premises for a nation. I don't understand the patriotism that's presented in the commercial. "Oh America! America!" Everybody loves America, but for what reason? It's a melting pot of different cultures which don't have anything in common. To me this sounds just as ridiculous as having a deep affection the European Union. It's just the politics holding them together. The love and patriotism feels fabricated and they don't even try to disprove that.
I disagree because language itself, even if it's just English, is constantly changing. How many people in the 80s were talking about social media? Or memes? So language is organic, it IS going to change like it or not. This is why conservative "if it ain't broke don't fix it" people are doomed to be perpetually unhappy with social norms. You can't stop change, all you can do is get in the way and be a speed bump. You may slow change down a bit but you get run over in the process. The smart thing to do is accept that things change and adapt as you go. Instead of telling people "assimilate or you'll never be American" we should absorb some of their culture into the American culture and thereby make their transition easier. The problem is of course bigotry. Many in charge don't want them in the first place, so they aren't about to take any steps to help them assimilate. In fact, bigots would rather prevent them from joining in.
Except the French preserve the fuck out of their language to a point where it's kind of ridiculous
Have you actually been to France
Have you actually been to France
I didn't think I needed to in order to know that? I'm not talking about individuals, I'm talking about the language as a whole. The language you would be taught. I'm sure if you went to France what you hear on the streets would be really different than the original language.
Well I live in France and the language isn't exactly preserved to a pristine state, the written rules constantly change, what used to be mistakes become rule and what used to be barbarisms become part of the language. We're not especially conservative about the language, not sure where you got that idea from.

He's fluent in Italian, German, English and possibly more (but not french so this makes sense now). He's pretty well known, it's actually really crazy. He'd travel to a lot of places around the world to teach huge rooms of people about operas. So of course hearing that from him I'm probably going to believe it. You know he also really disliked France... hmm...
Perhaps he was thinking of the Académie française, and articles like this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-442316/French-traditionalists-arms-younger-generation-uses-cool-Anglicisms.html [editline]5th February 2014[/editline] Can we get back on topic now please? Thanks.
Is lolz3 actually serious? Spending more money on something does not mean it is of greater quality nor does it mean that it will work for longer. Using his logic I could spend $500 on a toothpick and suddenly I can use it hundreds of times. Sometimes the people on facepunch suprise me, and not in a good way. In regards to the commercial I think it's great, I don't see how singing a song in different languages can actually offend people.
"muh patriotism" (User was banned for this post ("meme reply" - MaxOfS2D))
Thank you, Max. Anyway, ontopic: What? Really? People are too sensitive.

Can these people really not accept that they live in an (at least) bilingual country?
I don't think the vast majority of people are upset over this, seems to be a small group that just likes attention. For instance, none of my conservative family that always gripes over the usual "controversial" commercials have said anything bad about this. Pretty much everything I've found pertaining to this commercial is people bashing the few who complained about this commercial.
I say if you want this advert to work out, look at the good and humble feelings it was trying to achieve, rather than complain which side it was attempting to promote/indoctrinate.
I heard some kids today talking about how this commercial ruined the super bowl :v:
Were they Kentucky grade-schoolers?
West Virginia high schoolers, so similar.

Still, my reasoning sprouts from the opinion that a nation needs its own language to be considered a nation. What makes you American? Living in the US? Having a proper visa? It is what it is though - a personal opinion, and I'm not trying to push it as a fact.
