Nobody in NATO and MAINLY not America are going to do anything about it, period. Did you guys forget South Ossetia War? It was the almost exact same situation. Post Soviet nation having a strongly separatist area, Russia SWOOPING THE FUCK IN, and liberating them. Let me remind you that was an actual armed conflict where people died, and STILL nobody gave a shit past some lame barking. This time Russia won't have to shoot anybody. There's going to be a referendum, things are going to cool down, Ukraine will shrink a bit and Crimea will either become a puppet country or a part of Russia. Everyone outside of Crimea and Ukraine will forget it happened within a couple of years.
I thought Georgia invaded South Ossetia claiming they were attacking Georgia's peacekeepers, how is this the same situation?
There won't be another global war Jesus Christ.
There will, but hopefully this won't be it.
why are all of you so turned on by the thought of another world war?
why are all of you so turned on by the thought of another world war?
Border dispute =/= world war, cutiepie~<3
why are all of you so turned on by the thought of another world war?
Cause like the last two generations in the west have basically been raised on stories of the world ending in a terrible zombie apocalypse, mega chicken flu anthrax pandemic, space dildo meteor shower of alien space craft or insert odd twist on end of the world scenario, kinda like those mega old school religions that lived generation to generation reading their tea leaves and their ancestors spirits in smoke signals from oak logs or some shit. The difference is we just acknowledge them as entertainment and not religion so it's like little mental reflex to just imagine worst case scenario regardless of how dumb or unlikely it is.
I thought Georgia invaded South Ossetia claiming they were attacking Georgia's peacekeepers, how is this the same situation?
Well, yes, but you need to put things into full context.
The 1991–92 South Ossetia War between ethnic Georgians and Ossetians had left slightly more than a half of South Ossetia under de facto control of a Russian-backed, internationally unrecognised government.[51][52] Most ethnic Georgian parts of South Ossetia remained under the control of Georgia (Akhalgori district, and most villages surrounding Tskhinvali), with Georgian, North Ossetian and Russian Joint peacekeeping force present in the territories. A similar situation existed in Abkhazia after the War in Abkhazia (1992–93). Increasing tensions escalated during the summer months of 2008. On 5 August, a Russian spokesman said Russia would defend Russian citizens in South Ossetia if they were attacked.[53] During the night of 7 to 8 August 2008, Georgia launched a large-scale military offensive against South Ossetia, in an attempt to reclaim the territory...
The stage we are at right now is "setting up of South Ossetia". A separatist area with heavy while dubious Russian presence. Nobody gave a fuck back then when that happened, nobody really gives a fuck today, the political folk just feels like they should say SOMETHING to not to look THAT pointless. IF Ukraine attempts to reclaim Crimea, Russia will stomp them into the ground and nobody will really do anything. If they don't, Russia will assimilate Crimea entirely more or less peacefully.

And then assimilate all of Ukraine I also don't like the word "assimilate" in this case. "Annex" or "conquer" seems more fitting
If I were Putin I'd do the same thing. Imagine having your name in history books for ever. It doesn't matter if it was a bad thing or not. And who knows. Maybe he'll do a really good job in Ukraine?
How high are you?

Well, if he attacks it's like Ukraine declaring war and then they are the bad guys. Russia is only putting troops on border as a preventive measure.
I just thought of something and correct me if I'm wrong on anything here. Russia basically has yet to confirm or deny that the troops are theirs and if the soldiers are wearing unmarked uniforms would it not be possible for Ukraine to arrest them en masse and if they give resistance to fire upon them? They could claim that with the unmarked uniforms it's just a local illegal militia. Everyone obviously knows they are obviously Russian but if Russia wants to be a massive dildozer about this whole thing then this could be a massive yet legal middle finger in their face.

If the Ukrainian army were to open fire on the "militia", then it would be painted as slaughter of innocent civilians in all of Russian media
They took Ukraine, I didn't act because I am not in Ukraine... And so forth.
We would do that but you people get real pissy when it comes to these things :v:
Yeah fuck the western democracies, getting pissy when they here about genocide and military aggression.
Yeah fuck the western democracies, getting pissy when they here about genocide and military aggression.
Well, you people are "we should not involve into anymore conflicts" but then "oh no we must help them" The west has bipolar disorder
Well, you people are "we should not involve into anymore conflicts" but then "oh no we must help them" The west has bipolar disorder
Serbia stronk, cannot into western bipolar disorder.
and how did; "Those in Crimea who are opposed to joining with Russia show their allegiance to Kiev in a protest in Simferopol" become "The majority in Crimea who are opposed to joining with Russia show their allegiance to Kiev in a protest in Simferopol"
Because Sobotnik. The majority of people in Crimea are pro-Russia.
Because Sobotnik. The majority of people in Crimea are pro-Russia.
Considering Crimea was part of Russia, and was gifted to Ukraine, it should be no surprise that most of the population is Russian. Russia is just changing their mind and taking their gifts back.
