What a twist
oh look, history. Lets all be surprised now. Hey its pretty interesting that Bin Laden says, "Personally, neither I nor my brothers saw evidence of American help."
Man, I wonder how the world would be if we supported the Russians in the middle east, instead of the insurgents.
It's because most of the people on reddit are <18, and this isn't something taught in schools. You learn about the Soviet-Afgahn war, but you're not told the specifics. Just that we were fighting big bad Gorbachev.
Actually, in my APUS class, we went into great detail about how we effectively turned Osama into a pro-American freedom fighter for a few years there. By pro-American freedom fighter, I mean Walking-Anti-Tank-Cannon. [editline]5th September 2012[/editline] And that doesn't count the a few mentions of it informally from 7th grade onwards.
Hey its pretty interesting that Bin Laden says, "Personally, neither I nor my brothers saw evidence of American help."
Well, america's help wasn't that secret, some CIA big boss once even visited some muhijadeen cells in uniform and talked with them about the fight. (edit: I don't remember if he was actually a general, this was in a tv document or in the CIA documentary book I just now couldnt find on my shelf) Edit: Once back he commented that they were true in their fighting for their religion and homeland or something along those lines.

It's actually no wonder USA got so targetted, really.

And he wasn't in uniform, but clearly dressed like a westerner. There's a video clip of it somewhere, I'm trying to find it.
I wasn't even taught it, I figured it out later.
I'm not even american or had any classes about this, and even I knew it.

That not a single cent of US aid went to the Taliban nor the Al-Qaeda. Since there are no unified command within the mujahideens.
