Ever read the comments on torrent sites? Half the people there are PC illiterate and shouldn't even be there in the first place.

Literally nobody has a concept of what the fuck a false positive is. On every torrent someone's adamant that this torrent, which has the most amount of seeders and is uploaded by trusted users mind you, they claim its a virus or just flat out can't read instructions. Idiots deserve what they had coming.

Despite those kind of comments popping up on completely legal torrents(clients for F2P games, etc), I always thought THAT was the big anti-piracy countermeasure: Hire someone to claim every single possible torrent is full of viri.
Yes, because super high quality uncompressed textures, sound/music/voice recordings are unnecessary. Guess what? games are getting bigger and bigger because the technology and distribution methods easily allow it.
And Canada's internet does not :v:
This is waterproof iPhone level of stupidity
If I remember right, that was actually a hoax, and a lot of the people claiming to have fried their iPhones were just making it up to get attention/get actual stupid people to fuck their phones up.
Naturally, being real stupidity brought into the spotlight by chance and fate, this is infinitely funnier.
At least it wasn't lostboy.exe or 18gb of dolphin porn.
what is that and theres a footage of it

Who wrote this article, Franziska von Karma?
It's the internet version of Darwin's survival of the fittest.
what is that and theres a footage of it
Somebody made a "scary" game and posted it on /v/. But the game was bundled with a RAT. Later the guy posted a bunch of passwords and webcam pictures of the people that ran lostboy.
There was so much panic that the mods had to make a sticky telling everybody not to panic.
Not sure why this would be considered dumb. GTA V is a massive, highly detailed game. Rockstar is clearly intended to go all out with the design of the game. Super High Res textures and high quality sound formats are HUGE. GTA V is 17 gigs on the console, do you seriously expect the PC version to 1 gig more than the current gen version?
It's considered dumb because of course the people who were tricked into this are the last people to go find out how big the console version is or do any other research at all before starting the download.
what if it's 18 gigs because it actually adds up to 18 gigabytes of different viruses
someone please record it
Wow can't believe people would actually fall for that like I bet those people would also fall for this

Can't you read? He's a dolphin. Have you ever heard of a dolphin lying? I'm pretty sure that's legit.
GTA4 is 12. Its not that big of a stretch.
Depends of the variety of assets and their optimisation towards the PC.
It could be 25 for all we know.
If this was 10 years ago, I probably would have been one of them.
YGuess what? games are getting bigger and bigger because the technology and distribution methods easily allow it.
Not nessecarily practically though. The dislike towards digital copies and/or large game sizes is because the majority of people have a slow, ridiculously capped, unstable or otherwise bad internet connection.
What idiots would possibility think the PC version of GTA V would be 18GB?
Why the dumbs? GTA V is 17 gigs on the console, you expect the PC version to be 18 gigs?

You could call them idiots for downloading a game that hasn't even been announced or released for PC, but the size difference isn't that much and you'd be an idiot to assume the size will be the same. There's a lot of factors that could contribute to a larger size, higher-res textures, audio files with less compression, multiple language support, extra content, I could go on but I believe I've made it pretty obvious now.

Someone on a Quake 1 torrent was warning everybody the game was a virus due to the "I'm gonna summon Satan all over your hard drive" quit message.

More like programmers get lazy
But that view works too

Programmers get lazy... to compress textures and sound??? That's not really something that takes much time or effort (unless you're trying to fit GTA V in a DVD or something)

Providing an enhanced experienced of your game is lazy?

This gets especially funny given how nasty bottlenose dolphins are. :v:
lostboy.exe
PANIC
Man, imagine the possibilities. Create a fake GTAV archive and then password protect it. The only way to get the password is through some survey bullshit site. Argh, I missed my chance!
And then the survey doesn't work.

lol theres not 30 gb worth of "super high quality uncompressed textures"
there's 20GB worth of super high quality uncompressed loading screen videos, though.
Someone download this and install it in a Vbox. I'm curious.
It's obvious from the installer icon it isn't official :I
