Prove that false rapes are more prevalent than any other false accusation (assault, burglarly etc) then we can talk. This stupid myth that there are tons of women out there that just cry rape on a whim needs to stop because in every rape thread someone goes "I bet she's lying" and all that does is stop less rapes from being reported.
I didn't mean to suggest that these people are lying, I just wondered how we know the infographic's population of rapists (who haven't been falsely accused, tried, imprisoned, reported or let off) is accurate if they haven't actually been to trial. I just meant that one can't say someone who hasn't had a charge brought against them in a court is guilty just because they've been accused. The image seems to imply that there is a vast population of rapists whom nobody has said anything about, but they're still counted as rapists.
Good god, apologies for that last post I posted. I just got real angry and that doesn't happen all that much. I didn't mean to get all poor-pity-me; it just happened.
No need to apologise. It's hard to be involved in a discussion like this without being emotional having had it affect you.
Good, there are few things I despire more than false accusations
this kind of shit just makes real victims put to shame and untrusted.
People who need to lie about rape need to get hit by a bus.
Shit but how am I meant to act like women are the ultimate evil now??
video games, that's how
uh oh mras look fucking OUT
The myth that women commonly falsely accuse men of rape is perpetuated by misogynistic cockwads. This study is a good thing, because it confirms what the rest of us already knew.
People previously thought they weren't?
Wow.
And what about unreported rapes / rapes that happened and were reported but lacked evidence?
Do you think there are more cases of false rape accusations than those?
The thing everyone seems to overlook here is that false rape accusations aren't some kind of evil we can't do anything about - it's already illegal to falsely accuse someone of a crime
it's also illegal to rape and people get away with it. =\

The study is irrelevant to false rape accusations. It's about false rape allegations taken into action with the law. Accusations outside of law are a different issue entirely. Of course false rape prosecutions are lower than the number of false accusations - the number of actual rape prosecutions is far lower than the number of rapes. A prosecution requires proof. An accusation doesn't. I have a friend who's livid newly-ex-girlfriend threatened to claim that he raped her. She proceeded to tell a ton of people that he raped her in order to enact some badly-thought-out revenge. He took shit on Facebook and Twitter for a few days, but once legal action started proceeding, his girlfriend admitted that he didn't. He still lost a bunch of friends and was vilified by others. Even though it didn't touch the legal system, a friend was almost forced to move because of a lie. That's where the idea of false rape accusations come from. There aren't many people stupid enough to try to prosecute someone for a rape they didn't commit - especially since it's illegal to do so.
And reddit's MRA is tame compared to reddit's SRS. They tend to just want equal footing in custody cases and a less gender-skewed version of child support. Of course there are misogynistic fucks in that group - there's misandric fucks in legitimate feminist groups as well. MRA and feminism tend to have a lot in common - it's not like MRAs are supporting legislation to make sure women don't get equal pay, or legislation that makes it easier to rape women. They're both trying to equalize civil and legal systems. The hatred of eachother just comes from the loud minority or misogynists/misandrists.
