• The Ultimate DRM: A Giant Pink Scorpion That kills You Whenever You Play if You Pirated the Game
except for two things 1. People are still going to pirate the game and cracking it could in fact be much easier 2. People are going to pirate the game to try it out, then assume the game is frustratingly difficult and decide not to purchase it
There should be DRM that's more funny and stops you from playing the game instead of something that someone could mistake as the game being too difficult to play. For example, Crysis Warhead let you play the first mission for a little and then when you got up to a certain point your gun would start firing live chickens that did no damage what so ever, making it impossible to progress. Another good example is Batman Arkham Asylum. The DRM caused Batman to flap his cape like a retard so he wasn't able to glide. This also made one point of the game where you had to glide to the batcave inaccessible.
Wasn't there a DRM in Arkham Asylum which disabled Batmans ability to glide? It was a really great way to catch pirates who made threads about "impossible parts" because they lacked the gliding ability. :v:
People would purposely download it to see the creepy levels. Trust me, I most definitely would.
within a few weeks people would have them on websites so you don't have to pirate it. though i could add a secret cheat into the game to activate it, but once i do it would probably overload the server with people trying to find out the creepy stuff. [editline]9th December 2011[/editline]
that sounds retarded... "1-1,000,000,000" ok so basically you scripted this DRM that basically has 0.0000000001% likelyhood of doing a damn thing.
it was just a random number i decided on just now. i thought i put in a billion but apparently i put in a trillion :v: was in a rush when i typed it so yea. your idea is awesome too. i also like the batman one and the other ones that just fuck around with the player. basically if i ever decide to make a DRM i would do it something like that simply to make people enjoy my game, reguardless of if they bought it or not.
So you propose a drm that's mistaken for a bug?
I don't think anyone would assume that chickens firing out of your gun or batman having an animation where he flaps his cape like a dipshit trying to fly as a bug.
within a few weeks people would have them on websites so you don't have to pirate it.
So then what's the point? Also, in order to play through the creepy levels myself I would need a copy of the game, and if I have no interest in the normal game I will pirate it. So really, you are providing an incentive to pirate the games instead of a deterrent.

Skyrim should have included a DRM where pirated copy players get executed right off the bat for piracy against the Empire
Best DRM ever was when the developer made the game around 2x as hard, and just near the end, before everything is revealed, the game cuts out and freezes. When you restart the game your save is gone.
Wasn't that Earthbound?
Eh, amusing but people will figure out how to crack it.
Already did. (I asked a friend)
Skyrim should have included a DRM where pirated copy players get executed right off the bat for piracy against the Empire
it should also add QTE Icons just so the player feels like he did it wrong and keeps doing it over. and over and over
This is awesome, I wish more companies did this. Things that makes pirates able to play the game, but adds annoying things that makes it impossible to finish.
if I ever made a game, my DRM would be the pirate spawning in a room before going in the campaign that has text on the walls that say "I noticed you pirated the game, after playing, it'd be real nice if you considered buying." why does everyone insist on doing something bad to the pirate? I haven't pirated anything, but I know some pirates have morals. Right?

If they continue playing after that it's because they like the game, and if then they have no good excuse for pirating it (unless they're really REALLY poor).
Skyrim should have included a DRM where pirated copy players get executed right off the bat for piracy against the Empire
Knowing Bethesda that would happen to legit buyers as well and you would have to hack around it.
I would make the most annoying DRM ever When you load the game, it loads very slow and as soon it reaches 99% is goes back to 0% and loads again :v:
This is actually pretty clever. You get a lot of free attention for introducing this novelty DRM, which also has something funny to look at, and they made the scorpion so you have some way of surviving it because it doesn't kill you in one hit. They should definitely make clear tho the Scorpion is there because the copy is pirated, like make it blabber and scream "NO BOOTY FOR YOU, YOU DARN PIRRRAAATE!!". This way, many people will be interested, and quite a number of those people will pirate it for the Scorpion. Then they get a breeze of gameplay, but most of them will eventually be fed up with the Scorpion and quit. But if they really liked it and want more, they'll buy it, turning the pirated copy into a somewhat effective demo - but you play the final product and you have some control over its length.
“Serious Sam 3′s DRM (Digital rights management) is brilliantly cruel, punishing only those who pirated it,” Blog Rock, Paper, Shotgun says on its website.
They say it like it's a really common thing for a DRM to punish paying customers [sub]which it sadly is[/sub]
I think we call that a 'Demo'.
Which is how it should be, a hidden demo. Let the game work alright for the first 1 up to 3 levels, then add stuff like this that makes the game really hard to play. Then they can go on playing the game if they want, but it will be annoying as hell compared to the bought version. This would be a good DRM. [editline]9th December 2011[/editline] The Batman cape thing is genius for example
Garry should do the polygon normals thing again, except with unremoveable Gmen being spawned randomly around the map behind you
Eh, amusing but people will figure out how to crack it. Plus, I don't think DRM that deliberately fucks up the game experience is a good road to go down. As opposed to, you know, just fucking up the game experience as collateral damage.
I disagree. Arma does this amazingly well. The game starts off okay but your guns progressively go to shit, enemies become super accurate, it's like poking at your head going 'hey, hey, you gonna buy it yet, hey, hey'.
If I made a game, the game would still be completely playable if pirated. However cutscenes would not be skip-able, the game would also autosave every time before a cutscene with a boss battle rather than after the cutscene, and every voiced character in the game would end their sentences with "you monster" when talking to you.

In fact, it just makes you look like an entitled spoiled brat.
Which is still a terrible excuse for pirating it. In almost all other cases, it's just being a prick. Note: Not kids with parents who refuse to buy their kids unsuitable things like Modern Warfare, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc, those are still just spoiled brats.
Best DRM is in Black and White 2. If you pirated it, children never grow up, wasting all your money and resources. :v:
-snip- ruined my merge :(
