The Ultimate DRM: A Giant Pink Scorpion That kills You Whenever You Play if You Pirated the Game

You couldn't even use a no-cd crack on it either because of that. As far as I know no one ever found a way around that.

It was fixed with the last few years.
They really need to improve the scorpion AI based on the video, it kept getting stuck on things
This is how you do DRM, Ubi.
Assassins Creed 3 DRM will be invincible Jannesaries.
except for two things
1. People are still going to pirate the game and cracking it could in fact be much easier
2. People are going to pirate the game to try it out, then assume the game is frustratingly difficult and decide not to purchase it
I would disagree on the second part because they would look up that scorpion dude to see why he won't die or how they can kill it. Then they'll see that it's drm.

Except that this affected my legal copy. :c
Didn't FFXIII have it to where if you pirated the game, you would get stampeded by a bunch of wild chocobos?
Serious Sam 3 sounds better and better. May have to pick it up after I get skyrim.
The piracy issue is completely negated by the fact that IT'S SERIOUS SAM 3 WHY HAVEN'T YOU BOUGHT IT YET
I want this to be a customizable option to add into the legitimate game. I would love to see if it's possible to get through every level with the arachnoid chasing you.

RUN
Couldn't you just use cheat engine to make your health frozen?

Not out on PS3 yet :c. I could get it on PC, but I wanna play it on PS3 and I don't see the reason in buying it twice. Can't wait for it to come out on PS3 though

It took Skidrow ages to crack SS3 and now they're having a hard time fixing this Arachnoid problem too. Editing content like this in the game is gonna be hard without the right tools.
As for point 2, they could just put a little message in right after it kills you saying to not pirate the game. Problem solved.
I'd have fun with it :v:
If I ever make an RTS, a pirated copy would replace all your units with cheap crappy looking pirates that suck.
Should really be a flying giant pink dildo.
I remember RA2's copy protection. If the game was pirated, your entire base blew up when you built a barracks.
Earthbound had the greatest anti-piracy measures of all time.
This is how anti-piracy should be done, make the game hard as fucking shit so no one will want to pirate it ever.
I liked Crysis Warhead's DRM, where you would fire chickens out of your gun.
In my honest opinion I hate the "pirate it to test it out then buy it later" excuse. It is justifying your actions and there are plenty of gameplay videos that developers (and after it is released, average people) publish that you can view to see what it is like. Also do not give me the "it will reveal spoilers bawww" bullshit excuse either because developers will not spoil the game and you can simply view the beginning of let's play videos or find the ones that cut out the storyline (which do exist).
I am not in favor of DMR's but as a person who has tried out game development from 3d modeling to concept art I know the amount of time people put into these things and youre basically giving them the middle finger. Yes, shitty companies like EA do get part of the profits but it is still kicking the game developer in the nuts as it is the way they get money as well.
Furthermore the "I am poor" excuse can also kiss my ass. A shit ton of people are hurting in this economy and games are not a necessity that you need to live. If you are so poor you shouldnt be worrying about games but should be more focused on things that are actually needed. You should live within your limits.
In the end there is no excuse for piracy and there is no excuse for hurting the customer with the DRM's.
In blunt terms neither has an excuse and I have no respect for either parties. Of course this bullshit wont stop so there was no point to my post but it feels good to get that off my chest.

I strongly disagree. When there's no demo available, trying the pirated game is the best solution. Videos aren't enough to have a correct opinion of the game IMO. And for me this is not an "excuse" to pirate games. I usually download games to try them actually, and I uninstall each of them after I decide to buy it or if I don't like it. For example, everybody said that Borderlands was fantastic. I tried it, found it terribly boring and uninstalled it. On the other side, I tried Skyrim and bought it after playing a bit.
The way I see it, piracy is no different than borrowing a game from a friend. A friend lent me the first Assassin's Creed, like it enough so I went out and bought it. The only difference is, the friend is on the internet.

Except a video will not convey the feel of the game and it can't even determine whether you find the gameplay fun. Watching videos of STALKER is fucking boring but the game itself is really good.

At least this DRM doesn't hurt the honest customers who bought the game.

yep because a video can simulate gameplay's feel perfectly well
what are you doing... "pirate it to test it out then buy it later" is called "Safe buying", buying something you actually had a demo with and actually know how it'll feel, then buying it after.
"I'm too poor" can be one as well you know, some people live off 7.25 an hour and have to pay off debts here in the US, and are barely scraping by, so they either get it free, or not at all.
BTW, the only real 'lost sales' are in people who pirate, then sill the game. THAT is stealing.
Reminds me of the DRM Red Alert 2 had which blew up all your units if you had a pirated version :v:
It's actually in all CnC games (even the EA ones) If you're on a pirated copy, everything will die in exactly one minute into the game.
The biggest problem though with these kinds of DRM's is when leaks are concerned though. Imagine the game get's leaked, and the pirated version is just full full and full of "gameplay" DRM bugs. And the pirates will have no clue it's intentional.
It will start a massive negative word of mouth against the game. This is essentially what killed titan's quest.

How exactly is 'get it for free, or not at all' an excuse?
You shouldn't be able to get it if you can't afford it, you aren't entitled to videogames, it's not a human right.
Sounds overly complex, confusing, and kind of useless.
it doesn't sound complex at all, random number generator plus a checker to see if it is correct/incorrect?
then a script that changes the levels? i dunno, sounds pretty sweet
Good, except now competitions will arise for who can get the farthest.

Which is why demos should be more prevalent. Gives people a chance to test out a game and if they like/hate it, they do whatever. Plenty of demos on Steam, but then again people pirate shit before its officially release so whatever
The only form of drm I would ever put in my games is this video after the end credits.
