• The Ultimate DRM: A Giant Pink Scorpion That kills You Whenever You Play if You Pirated the Game

I just thought of a nice DRM. Okay, you start the game, play singleplayer. A guy comes in and says "hey, Looks like you pirated this. I'll let you test it, then you have to buy it, OK?" Play a few levels. Guy comes back. "Alright, you tested it. Are you going to buy it now?" Y/N Y deletes the file and opens up a page where you can buy it. N causes a boss fight. Basically, He runs around the room, occasionally charging about for a melee attack, or shooting at you. Each attack does 10 million damage. If he hits you, but you survive with the use of cheats, he grabs you and says "Not only are you a pirate, you're a cheater too.", and kills you, and deletes the game file, and opens up the same webpage. Dying in the fight deletes the game, and opens up a webpage. Winning the fight (If you're hardcore like that) gives you a CD key for the full game, because if you can kill a boss that does 10 million damage per hit and is nigh on impossible to kill, you damn well deserve the full game.
Well, upon reading this thread, I only have one thing to add... I am never playing a game developed by anyone on FP :v:

All that was before reading this thread.
The only form of drm I would ever put in my games is this video after the end credits.
If i ever made a game, i would make the DRM an unkillable NPC who followed you around singing this song while also programmed to dance infront of the player in the most annoying manner.

It kind of reminds me of how pirated copies of ArmA turn you into a seagull randomly.
I'm going to commit the capital crime of quoting cracked, but piracy hurts the entertainment industry. Since download became a thing, sales have been dropping. Not going up, as they should have (due to increased population and popularity, etc.)

In something like skyrim, it would be perfect. Change it so as all the NPC's dialogues is something along the lines of "We know what you're doing.." and just creep the shit out of the pirates.
If I ever made a game I wouldn't waste time making DRM. Instead I would use that development time for in game content and game play that makes people want to buy the game and not download it. DRM is stupid, waste of time, waste of resources. EVERY SINGLE GAME that is out has been cracked in some shape or form.
Rise of Flight actually hasn't been cracked, I haven't seen it at least. and just recently they released it for free.
Best DRM ever was when the developer made the game around 2x as hard, and just near the end, before everything is revealed, the game cuts out and freezes. When you restart the game your save is gone.
I think this happened in one of the previous serious sam games. It crashes the game right before the giant boss you're supposed to fight at the end comes out from behind the temple or whatever.
Rise of Flight actually hasn't been cracked, I haven't seen it at least. and just recently they released it for free.
I haven't even heard of such a game.
I haven't even heard of such a game.
It's probably the best ww1 flight sim ever created, despite it's somewhat rickety payment model for extra planes, it's a fantastic game.
You're still justifying an illegal activity. Don't pretty up something bad. DO you guys have no friends? Almost all of my games I've bought because of multiple review sources, demo videos and generally the reputation of the developer behind the game. And if worse comes to worse, I ask my friends. You guys are basically going with the 'I'm too lazy to do my research.' Even though pirated games actually require more work than a simple fucking google search.
Point out where I was justifying piracy. I was just saying that developer released preview material of games is not sufficient for forming an opinion about the product. Even reviews aren't trustworthy, considering how many publications are pressured to give good scores to AAA games. It's impossible to know whether a game will be enjoyable or not before purchase as demos are either made half a year after the games release or simply not made altogether. Buying a game essentially blind for PC is gambling, and I don't like gambling. At least you can still return the majority of console games.
Hit its weakpoint for massive damage!
Which is why demos should be more prevalent. Gives people a chance to test out a game and if they like/hate it, they do whatever. Plenty of demos on Steam, but then again people pirate shit before its officially release so whatever
I still think that every developer should release demos for every game on the PC just so people can get the demo and find out if they can run the damn game.

I'm all for crazy DRM like this, but it would be nice if it was implemented properly. I am referring to one specific example: My LEGIT PHYSICAL COPY of Command and Conquer: Generals had the DRM activate so that all of my units would blow up whenever I played.
I remember RA2's copy protection. If the game was pirated, your entire base blew up when you built a barracks.
Actually it was your base would blow up after 10 seconds to one minute. Also happened with mods now and then, which mad modding annoying sometimes.
