The CD key for Win 8 pro OEM versions will also activate a windows 7 install

Thank god I can return to Vista.
facepunch is so bipolar when it comes to windows 8 because it's like "oh this is shit" and then the next thread is all "this is great!".
Who the shit would choose Vista over 7?
It's a good move by Microsoft, but if they'd just listen to consumers a bit more, they wouldn't need to do this.

No, they would need to do this either way.
You are never going to convince microsoft that Metro is bad (because that's largely just your opinion)

It was the same with Win7

Mainly because there are those that basically scream and slap their scream yelling, 'UNACCEPTABLE!' from images they've seen but don't actually know how it works.
You'll find for those that do actually use it, they're more excited for it because they like it a lot.

fixed
Why is there a picture of vista ? this thread not about w8?
It's literally in the second sentence of the article. An article that is three lines long plus change.
One thing I find hilarious..
The PC in the article is a tablet, soemthing that facepunch says Metro is optimised for (and therefore shitty somehow) but yet they still think it's shitty even on a tablet?
I may just buy Windows 8 now.
Still have the original MS-DOS install floppies.
cant beat that but I have the 95 floppy as well as the info book
I may just buy Windows 8 now.
This is for when you buy a prebuilt computer, not the Win 8 Software.
I may just buy Windows 8 now.
But you already have Win7
and you could probably get an ordinary Win7 key for cheaper
This is for when you buy a prebuilt computer, not the Win 8 Software.
Windows 8 is still just 40$, and in my opinion a pretty decent upgrade - I'll probably buy it, and maybe a Surface along with it.
cant beat that but I have the 95 floppy as well as the info book
I still have the 95 booklet that came with my ESCOM.
What if i already have win 7. This is just retarded. So the 5 people on XP and the 2 on Vista get a good deal. Awesome.
It's the OEM version, the one that comes with assembled PCs. It just means that people who buy a new computer will be able to choose the Windows version they prefer. How the fuck can you think it's retarded?

When it comes to having knowledge about anything, FP has shown to pose zero amount of knowledge. By the first 5 posts, all of the opinions if they're not puns, have been posted.
There are is a chuck of people who actually know what they're talking about but they stick to the subforums where the other knowledgeable people are.

SH is quite literally a pool of illiterate posters
It's like noone looks over their own posts before submitting them :v
I think the main problem is that noone reads the fucking article
Because I already have Windows 7?
I mean I can see why you'd like this but there are still reasons not to like it.
Well I don't see why you would want Windows 8 instead, because you know, the only reason people hate it is because they're being overly paranoid and somewhat lazy.
Nobody even bothers to try it, and instead bases their knowledge on stuff like "THERE IS NO START MENU" etc.
What if i already have win 7. This is just retarded. So the 5 people on XP and the 2 on Vista get a good deal. Awesome.
its fucking 40 bux
Asides from the start menu being fullscreened (which can be modded away) 8 is a huge upgrade over 7. 7 is what Vista should have been, and Vista was released in 2006, and Vista was supposed to be released in 2003 as Longhorn
Basically Windows is leagues behind Linux and OSX right now, and 8 does fix alot of the archaicness

I would hardly say it's "leagues behind" either of those. They are very different platforms, and Windows has just gone a different path entirely to what Unix/ BSD systems went. Some of their features would be nice to have stock in the OS, but not having them is hardly a massive detriment. The biggest issue is just the majority market share attracting malware and shit applications.

there is no reason to run Windows over Linux except applications
there is no reason to run Windows over OSX (Mac only but still) except applications
Windows has nothing over Linux except applications, same for Windows vs OSX except OSX is more a device firmware than an OS because of it being Mac only which is hysterical

Well, there are reasons like preference. Linux still not being totally accessible to every person (a lot of trouble shooting requires usage of the terminal still, I really don't see a 40 year old mother bothering with that). Yeah things like Mint do bring it down to a level that you can use it, and not rely on more advanced things. But you still need to re-learn how to use your computer if you've been on Windows all your life.
Again, Windows is not a perfect platform, but it isn't the same thing as Linux/ OS X, until it loses market share they will never have a chance of competing properly applications wise. It may not have all the features, options and security of a Unix derived OS, but that doesn't mean Windows should just be written off as useless. Even without majority market share I'm pretty sure it could still have a place in computing (even more so if they just killed NTFS now rather than later, fuck that fragmentation).

In my opinion Mac OSX windows (heh) management is atrocious, I really couldn't live without aero snap and the like.

er, not really
I have plenty of reason to use windows over OSX (mainly because OSX is an ugly POS)

Linux still has a lot of problems, I've had Linux fuck itself up more seriously than windows. IE, the last Ubuntu distribution I installed automatically bricked itself if you enabled auto login, seriously. Arch Linux was better, but I still didn't feel like it offered me any improvements over windows. I used Mac for a while and it made me want to throw the computer out the window, and it was always fucking breaking. Super-drive my ass, those things are built like a garbage disposal except the garbage is your discs.
That's pretty neat.
Microsoft: the king of backpedaling
They've almost always offered similar programs. Notice that this is for Windows 8 Pro - aka the non consumer typical version. It's for companies who don't have bulk licenses but still need unified system pool.

Win > OSx in multi monitor support, hardware support, application support, general memory management, often better networking and admin management, better image deployment, everyone is trained with windows
Win > linux in application support, training support, documentation support, legacy application support, hardware support.
That's not saying that either OSx or Linux performs better than windows in some situations. But windows still has a fairly big set of advantages. These advantages are even bigger if you're an enterprise.
Essentially most of the big reasons on why Windows and Linux systems developed so differently is due to legacy issues. Unix started off as a multi user system whereas Windows has roots in systems designed for single users.
On top of that, if Linux was so much better than windows, we'd see a lot more of it even on embedded systems. Where WindowsCE and embeded is sort of the king of the hill for systems where you need user interaction. As far as I recal most ATMs run CE.
