Awesome that Microsoft is giving us an escape hatch. However, do we really need an escape hatch from 7 to Vista?
I would not downgrade to 7 or vista if I had a tablet, because neither of those OS's supported tablets properly unlike 8
I would not downgrade to 7 or vista if I had a tablet, because neither of those OS's supported tablets properly unlike 8
I had 7 on a tablet and it worked out pretty good then again it was one of those HP tablets that I could have gotten sent in for a replacement because of a class action lawsuit, but didn't because they would have sent me a hunk of crap instead of a fixed model so I had it pawned.
My friend had a HP school tablet with 7, found it impossible to do anything, mind you at the shops they had a computer monitor touch screen with 7, I just don't think it was optimized enough for tablets to fully use, you'd still need a keyboard and mouse

So it was a start, but nowhere near what is needed for proper touch screen usage.
What if i already have win 7. This is just retarded. So the 5 people on XP and the 2 on Vista get a good deal. Awesome.
Does it really matter, it will cost you $40 to upgrade.
Wow nice I've been trying to defend this OS and now they come out with this "yeah we do realize most of you hate it so you can downgrade it to 7 you massive fucking faggots" shit gj microsoft [editline]3rd September 2012[/editline]
there is no reason to run Windows over Linux except applications there is no reason to run Windows over OSX (Mac only but still) except applications Windows has nothing over Linux except applications, same for Windows vs OSX except OSX is more a device firmware than an OS because of it being Mac only which is hysterical
there's no reason to run any OS except applications and microsoft has the upper hand when it comes to those. And market share. And not being made by a bunch of hobbyists or only being able to run on an overpriced machine.
so if i bought win 8 OEM and installed it over my win 7 OEM, i could downgrade later on if i didn't like it? or does this only apply to companies like HP or Dell?
Wow nice I've been trying to defend this OS and now they come out with this "yeah we do realize most of you hate it so you can downgrade it to 7 you massive fucking faggots" shit
Uhhh. They offered the same thing for Vista when that caught a lot of flak too. It's a common thing for them to do this really, it's just damage control and public relations. If they offer you the chance to go back to 7 when you buy a new PC, then people won't hate 8 as much as they know they aren't stuck with it if their parents can't work the thing out (I can't even pity someone who can't work Windows 8 though, it's exceptionally easy).
(I can't even pity someone who can't work Windows 8 though, it's exceptionally easy).
The one thing that's not immediately obvious is what exactly happened to the start button. Old people who don't really follow the tech news circuit will see it and ask "wait where'd that little button over here go" (assuming they don't just use desktop shortcuts for everything anyway). However, that's not a big problem: Aforementioned old guy will go to that corner out of habit, and right before he thinks "oh right button's gone" he'll see the mini Start Screen replica appear and be all "oh hey that's how that works now".
Try it for a month before completely dismissing it. Most of the complaints you have heard are from people who fear change.
Heh, like Windows how it is? Like Metro, but prefer to multitask? You just fear change

There's a reason they don't offer a downgrade option on the consumer version of windows 8. It's basically so companies without bulk licenses can actually use a system they have certified in house even on new hardware. Adding more than a single OS would create issues for their IT departments.
The one thing that's not immediately obvious is what exactly happened to the start button. Heh, still on XP. You'll never get me out of here, ya hear!? [thumb]http://www.chumpysclipart.com/images/illustrations/xsmall2/3636_picture_of_an_angry_old_man_waving_his_cane.jpg[/thumb]
Now to find out if we can upgrade for $40 from Vista/Xp and then downgrade to 7 and save $140.
Now to find out if we can upgrade for $40 from Vista/Xp and then downgrade to 7 and save $140.
only if you buy a new computer or buy the code from some deepweb russian cdkey site I'm guessing
I was just going to buy a W7 copy. They got me :v:

Is it me, or do so many people not see it's for the PRO version only? I feel like some people are acting as if it was for the consumer grade version as well.
Yes, so when they buy this, Microsoft is guaranteed a sale. If the customer doesn't like their product and would prefer their older product and would take it and not complain, it's still a sale.

Remember it's the pro version. So it's most likely for companies that buy new hardware but need to run seven due to either guaranteed compatibility, inside cert, IT management or countless other internal reasons.
I wonder if the surface tablet would even be able to run other os's. Speaking of surface, Ihope that the price tag won't be too high when it's announced.
Fingers crossed the surface gets the shit hacked out of it.
They did hack the iPad and Windows is more common, so I believe it will be hacked.
how is this backpedaling in any form of the word
It kind of is backpedaling. Hey, we'll remove the start menu and force everyone to use metro! And make double sure nobody can go back on that, by removing the code for re-enabling stuff! It's gonna be great! We're forcing this stuff because we know it's for the better! Oh but if you hate it, I guess here's a free copy of the previous operating system... Yeah it's a nice little thing but it does suggest they're realizing some people don't want this shit.

IF they did that (and this), then I won't be a angry grandpa about it anymore.

This is more for people that require both Windows 8 and Windows 7. You wouldn't willingly buy a pro version of windows 8 (which is inevitably more expensive than any Win7 license) over a far cheaper Win7-only key. If you buy the pro version, you should intend to use windows 8, it's not exactly meant for the every day shmuck that upgrades because it has a bigger number
