I've never had a problem with fullscreen games. The task manager is slow, mainly when opening. I much prefer the pre-8 task manager.
That's strange. Mine also opens instantly. Even on my laptop which didn't have an SSD. It only loads slowly when the HDD is bogged down (which happened on the pre-8 task manager anyway).
And it doesn't restore the position of Chrome when you leave the game? I always found (at least when playing Tremulous) that my second monitor isn't affected. [editline]25th August 2013[/editline] And my Garry's Mod runs in noborder at 1920x1080 so it's technically not "fullscreened" although it appears so.
I said it doesn't happen with fullscreen window noborder. Not all games have that option though. The applications on the right monitor do not move back after closing a game. I have to manually move them back (flick it to the other monitor then flick them all back again) or refresh the screen resolutions.
I said it doesn't happen with fullscreen window noborder. Not all games have that option though.
I know, I was just saying that because GMod is the game I play the most and I don't have much experience with other games buggering with the resolution. I'd just minimise everything before launching a game then.
Still doesn't excuse the task manager. :suicide:
http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-restore-the-good-old-task-manager-in-windows-8/
http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-restore-the-good-old-task-manager-in-windows-8/
I had already done that. It isn't the only reason I switched back to 7 (although I now mainly use my linux installation)
You can't pin a folder to the start menu[sp]/screen[/sp]. That's one of the things I missed when I had 8.
But you can, Right Click then pin to Start.
But you can, Right Click then pin to Start.
I'm pretty sure you can only pin PROGRAMS to the start menu. [sp]but according to below posts, I was wrong.[/sp]
I'm pretty sure you can only pin PROGRAMS to the start menu.
You can pin folders, drives and network locations to the start menu by dragging them over it at the very least.
I'm pretty sure you can only pin PROGRAMS to the start menu.
Wrong.
Well thanks for correcting me then.
The only thing I want now is app folders like iOS and Android.
The only thing I want now is app folders like iOS and Android.
What is on mobile, should stay on mobile. What is on desktop, should stay on desktop. App folders look butt ugly in Mac OS, and I doubt they would look any better on Windows. It's just easier to group sets of applications together.
Nah. It's broken. Broken by design, matter of fact. Some things just work and don't need to be mucked with, yet Microsoft opted to muck with them anyway. Far as I'm concerned Win8 doesn't exist. IF I have to buy and install a third party mod to get Windows to work like it's supposed to, and has for the past 20 or 30 years now, that version of windows is broken. It may work for you but to me it is and always will be a broken pile of crap that has no business on my hard drive.
u can have that opinion but ur not allowed to call it a matter of fact because its not!! its not a fact
I'm pretty sure you can only pin PROGRAMS to the start menu. [sp]but according to below posts, I was wrong.[/sp]
Not to be snarky, but this really says something about how much of an effort people actually make to learn the new start screen to know. I really think there should be a tutorial, but this is like basic stuff you should know almost from the start.
I had forgotten how much as a kid I thought the solitaire icon was a face peering out of a box with its nose hanging over...
Minesweeper looks like a robot tit
I remember when the first start menu came out for windows and everyone was complaining about that too. The windows 8 start menu is just better. The search function is really good and fast. I can find the programs i need faster.
I also do remember that you had the OPTION to use the older Program Manager or the then new Explorer when you installed or upgraded from Windows 3. Since then I have never seen them give any easy option to use a different WM without poking about the registry. Also, if you want easy access to programs you have these things called shortcuts and the desktop

And i hate shortcuts on the desktop because it looks like a clusterfuck.
I find Windows 8 to be comfortable to use just as long as the computer I'm using has a touch screen without one it just becomes fucking obnoxious
I'm probably going to end up switching to Windows 8 because my IT Class is going to be supplying us with free Win. 8 Dev Kits, and I don't have the money to buy all the required software for my Windows 7, and this is a $2,500 deal so... I'd be stupid not to take advantage of it. Also, I'll be able to play Project Spark if that ends up good, which is a plus.
Left Desktop is 1920x1080, Right is 1024x768, Game is at 1280x720 fullscreen not windowed - Notice how my Chrome was shoved off screen on the opposite monitor. This happens with all applications, not just Chrome. [img_thumb]http://imghst.co/33/screendump.jpg[/img_thumb]
bro i used to have that problem in fuckin' Windows XP Win8 multimonitor support may be shit, but it's marginally less shit than its predecessors
bro i used to have that problem in fuckin' Windows XP Win8 multimonitor support may be shit, but it's marginally less shit than its predecessors
Windows multimonitor support has always been pretty shit. It took them this long to actually allow task bars to be on secondary monitors out of the box.
Well the start button still takes you to the tiles screen. Which I hate with a passion.
I really hope you didn't actually pay $5 for Start8.
I find Windows 8 to be comfortable to use just as long as the computer I'm using has a touch screen without one it just becomes fucking obnoxious
Don't see why considering it is exactly the same thing as Windows 7 with a prettier and more efficient start menu. I understand that charms are a pain but 8.1 is addressing that, along with pretty much every other complaint out there.
