I really hope a lot of these games (GTA4, Dark Souls, red Faction Guerrilla, etc) will still work in Steam offline after the service ends. Would be a shame not to be able to play them anymore due to DRM ending.
The games would probably remain playable in single player most of the time, but multiplayer would be unusable (and considering this is GFWL, your saves would probably also disapear for no reason).
I'll be so sad if Kane and Lynch: Dead Men's servers are pulled down. :(
That's like saying you don't need to play HL1 because HL2 came out.
That's probably not the best example, GTA5 isn't a story sequel to GTA4, as far as I know. A better example would be "you don't need to play Team Fortress Classic because Team Fortress 2 came out."
That's great news, hope more games get that treatment.

The picture isn't real though? The dark souls facebook page has nothing about this.
Online and skirmish-wise Retribution has all the content from those two and it's Steamworks
You'll still be missing the singleplayer though
Which is a shame since Retribution had shit Campaign mode.
Well fuck this shit, some of my favorite games used Fallout, I don't wanna be unable to ever play them again just because Microsoft are being cheap shits again.
uh you know you can get Xliveless for fallout right? and it disables GFWL and acts just as if it had GFWL
uh you know you can get Xliveless for fallout right? and it disables GFWL and acts just as if it had GFWL
But that's not an official solution.
Good riddance. Maybe I can finally play Dead Rising 2: Off the Record with my friends after the service's no more (provided they move it to Steam)
someone reminded me
we will lose our GTA IV/EFLC savegames, stats, progress, etc...
Just start up GTA IV, go offline, then save.
After that never use GFWL again.
Also I contacted Rockstar mouthoff to see what their plans are.
Just contacted Rockstar with regards to GTA IV.
Edit: Didn't see that, somebody has already done it.
Thank goodness for Xliveless. I used it for GTA IV and the episodes, so my saves will be fine.
This means Dark Souls MP is going down, too? Along with GTA4's?
Shit I still play GTA 4 a hell of a lot
I bought a Fallout 3 addon on GFWL. I WANT MY MONEY BACK
Wait, dead
As in flat out unplayable, forever
What the fuck is that, how can someone do that
That's like pointing to a few games in someone's collection for the Xbox and saying "yeah, you can't play those anymore, period."
That's fucking bullshit. I paid money for those games, I should play them whether or not.
Two years ago, I bought all the map packs and dlc for section 8:prejudice, only to find that GFWL doesn't let you activate any dlc if you're under 18.
Now, as I reach 17, Section 8 is to be shut down in its entirety. I have still never gotten a chance to activate any of it and, including the base game, I have now been cheated out of ~$30-40.
gg. Why do I bother.

send a bunch of emails to support, i'm sure they have people doing damage control for exactly these situations
So what happens to games that we bought independently of other download sites, that still use GFWL? I just purchased SSFIVAE and it occurs to me that the only DRM it uses is GFWL, so... I guess I'm fucked?

MP3 doesn't use GFWL, but R* Social Club(not the one IV has). I hope they'll port it over to IV/EFLC so MP is still working.
No more Dead Rising 2 coop?
:suicide:
Thank god me and my friend just played through it again recently, but this is really bumming me out. Capcom also doesn't seem like they're going to bother supporting their old titles cause that would imply Capcom actually cares.
Ultra Street Fighter IV will use Steamworks
Well sure, but I bought SSFIV from Amazon so I don't have it on Steam. Ultra is being offered as a $15 upgrade or a $40 full game, but since GFWL's marketplace is ending this week and the service is ending next year, am I not going to be able to buy the upgrade? Seems like I might be forced to spend the $40 which sucks.
This means Dark Souls MP is going down, too? Along with GTA4's?
Unless they create or find alternatives (STEAM!?) that will probably be true, but it's a price im willing to pay.
Rockstar got back to me, they don't have any information to release on the topic of the future of GTA 4's online

I've never had one problem with GFWL. This also disturbs me, will your profile still exist and will you be able to keep what you have? I have all the F.O.3 DLC from this service.

Unless they update GFWL to work with just a CD key redemption (no sign in required) then offline play should still work.
If they just cut the servers then any GFWL game is fucked unless you download a crack for it, or if the developers update the game to use an outside DRM method (like SF4 is transferring to steamworks).
But my achievements. :(
Sorry if been posted but,
Will this affect the DiRT servers?
