No...they don't. Anyone can carry a gun now, just get a permit. Getting one is very easy. What rock have you been under?
Cut me SOME slack, I'm in AZ. :p Last I had heard, that was the case. Sorry for my misinformation.
So you oppose these restrictions?
Yes. Restricting the rights of former criminals is unjust. The constitution provides no provisions for permanently removing someone's rights.
It is no different than limiting their right to vote. (Which is also done and is even more unjust)
They have paid their debt, they should be given their full rights back.
The same goes for those who have been dishonorably discharged.

I'm not gonna state my views yet, but what about the other restrictions there? Also, just to clarify, you would let a murderer who served their time legally buy guns, correct?

Yeah I don't agree with allowing convicted felons to carry guns. Misdemeanors, sure who cares. The American prison system is known for not doing shit but making better criminals.
Our society is falling apart because criminals like this are typically victimized and sympathized with. You read too far into it.
uh they are a victim of circumstance.
you're not gonna shoot the problems out of society.
nobody robs waffle restaurants because it's fun.

really? so would you hazard to assert that countries who are "tougher on crime" (let's use a solid metric like "countries with the death penalty") are safer than countries who are "soft on crime" (countries without the death penalty)?

Nobody said we're shooting the problems out of society. Pretty sure all I have said here is about protecting innocent people.

I have no issue with:
Is a fugitive from justice;
Is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance;
Has been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution;
Is an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States;
Having been a citizen of the United States, has renounced U.S. citizenship;
As these people are in the active process of doing something illegal, or have renounced their rights to the amendments.
And yeah, if you are out of jail and off probation, then yes you should be legally permitted to purchase a firearm again. If we believe that this person is still a legitimate threat to society, then clearly our justice system isn't functional.

Pretty sure you missed the point there bud.

no you've said a lot more than that.
Yeah I don't agree with allowing convicted felons to carry guns. Misdemeanors, sure who cares. The American prison system is known for not doing shit but making better criminals.
The problem is that even a petty charge such as possessing marijuana can make you a convicted felon.
The problem is that even a petty charge such as possessing marijuana can make you a convicted felon.
Depends on where, and this is why they do a full background check.
no you've said a lot more than that.
Like?
Pretty sure you missed the point there bud.
no, i distinctly did not.
the implication of this post:
Our society is falling apart because criminals like this are typically victimized and sympathized with. You read too far into it.
is that the reason society is falling apart is because we're too soft on criminals because we sympathize with them.
also you misused the term "politically correct" but I'm not even going to bother

When did I misuse politically correct? I'm pretty sure PC as it stands today goes in context with how I used it.
When did I misuse politically correct?
how can someone be politically correct if they aren't in politics?

Re-learn the definition of what that means: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness
Good thing we very rarely have shootings here.
Re-learn the definition of what that means: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness
no i'm challenging the rhetorical grounds on that you use that word.
you just used it as a shorthand insult but i don't see why you'd think it's a bad thing to be sensitive or politically correct.
Re-learn the definition of what that means: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness
it means choosing your words specifically so as to be more sensitive to members of various rigid demographic groups. political correctness doesn't have anything to do with a person's opinion on whether or not vigilantism is ok.
i don't think you actually read the article that you just linked

We are at a point where being politically correct has caused issues. Like how we can't call black people black people, they have to be African American, even if not from Africa.
We are at a point where being politically correct has caused issues. Like how we can't call black people black people, they have to be African American, even if not from Africa.
i can see how that might be slightly annoying to lazy people but how is it ruining society? how is that even an "issue"?
and what does this have to do with gun crime and vigilantism?

That was an example.
We are at a point where being politically correct has caused issues. Like how we can't call black people black people, they have to be African American, even if not from Africa.
I have never actually run into a black person who had a problem with being called black.
The one that I find funny are the native American groups that prefer American Indian to native American. That one confuses me.
That was an example.
OF WHAT? Of the "issues" that political correctness has caused? that's not an issue. it's only an issue to pedants.
We are at a point where being politically correct has caused issues. Like how we can't call black people black people, they have to be African American, even if not from Africa.
who is we?
and lol what issue has that caused?
I think you've confused political correctness with nomenclature.

Yeah native American vs. Indian... I dunno, Cherokee or etc is what I call them. They're basically individual nations if you think about it.
Certain folks full of cultural pride want to be called African American. I see it all over around here. My wife is half black and tells me stories of where she has worked and all the shit she got about calling her dad "black man."
Yeah native American vs. Indian... I dunno, Cherokee or etc is what I call them. They're basically individual nations if you think about it.
uh cherokee refers to a specific group of native americans, not all native americans.
My wife is half black
i'm really just confused now
how is it "ruining society"?

There are a few ways to utterly ruin any "African American" argument.
My favorite being white South Africans. They (not the south african) either ultimately have to admit to not really being African American, or claim that the title is based on skin color, in which case the title of "Black" still applies.
Other fun, and less hostile, means of turning the tables include pointing out that you don't actually know their ethnic origin and could, in fact, be from France, which would make the title of African American inherently insulting.
