I think it's kind of incredible that it's taken as common knowledge that the media is dominated by the left and Facepunch is a liberal echo chamber yet you have threads like these where a pipeline leak (an occurrence which, as you said, is fairly common) obviously has to be a false-flag by environmentalists.
Clearly when it comes to the Dakota pipeline the so-called liberal media isn't working hard enough.
I'm not aware of anyone in this thread who said it absolutely is a false flag event.
Entertaining a theory =/= Believing the theory absolutely happened
Entertaining a theory, especially since it's such a ridiculous one, is the first step to believing it happened however.

there's a lot of questionable room between "entertaining it" and "absolutely believing it"
someone can believe a theory, shoehorn it into every discussion, go out of their way to be the first to mention it even when nothing calls for it, and generally try their hardest to sway people... and still pull the "well i never said it MUST be true" argument
not to mention the fact that there's nothing wrong with considering a theory too stupid to even entertain. it's not a trump-all card

That's quite the slippery slope you've set up there.

It may be too stupid to entertain in your opinion, but some people would actually like to entertain even stupid ideas just for the sake of argument or for the discussion. If you don't want to, that's fine. But some of us enjoy discussing absurd theories, however improbable they may be.
I don't think it's a slippery slope argument, I think that's patently true; you have to entertain the idea of something in your head before you can start to believe it, no?
I'm just saying you have to be careful what exactly ideas you entertain or put out there; lord knows somebody is gonna believe it.

Well this guy is doing much more than just "entertaining" the idea which already is absolutely ridiculous in the first place so yea
And are people not able to slough hills?
If it was an operation of some kind, would they blow it up, cut it, or dig away at the ground until it sloughed to make it appear more natural?
These are cold times, especially in the Northern US. The ground gets harder when it gets colder.
And it was stupid of a protester to make a shitty IED out of a propane canister, try to throw it at cops, it blows up in front of them, and they blame it on "concussion grenades".
I dont think stupidity or common sense rules anything out.

"Haha yes, let me just regurgitate this phrase again and dismiss your point"
Entertaining dumb theories is half of why social media is a plague of misinformation.
If someone can't differentiate between entertaining a theory and what's fact, that ultimately falls on them, not me. I'm not going to side step around what could be entertaining and fun discussions because some people aren't intelligent enough to know the difference.
there's also a difference between entertaining the theory and entertaining yourself like these guys

lol guys oils spills happen often enough that this was probably an accident.

I in no way believe in the conspiracy, it's just juicy fun to entertain.
don't entertain them for personal entertainment, entertain it to solve whether it has legitimacy or not. Mock debating is fun and all when the parties are all in on it, but you're actively putting out supporting opinions for legit conspiracists to latch onto as backup, which can harm the pursuit of rational answers
imagine if the distance to the protest wasn't mentioned in the article, then noone would say it was the protestors
Just a little random fact, the company who owns this pipeline has had 10 spills since 2011. That's 2 spills per-year. But those Injuns are just whiney conquered hippies, why can't they let us build this totally safe pipeline on their land~? :downs:
it'd be way better to measure length of pipeline/spills

spills on their own dont mean jack shit
If there was any indication at all this was ecoterrorism, then thats would they would have jumped onto right off the bat to prevent the protesters from making any ground.
or maybe they're adults and not saying anything until they've concluded
dont think this is ecoterrorism but i kinda wish it was because retarded people being fucking retarded is hilarious and seeing the naive people of SH defending em is even more hilarious lol

ok, but i'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy them. no less than the people who enjoy debunking them, for that matter. i'm just saying people can harmlessly talk about the possibilities, or believe a theory for real and play it off as if they didn't. it makes no difference to the reader, and it's pointless to try and assume ulterior motives, so all we can judge is the theory. and if the theory sounds stupid, don't be surprised if indulging in it comes off as stupid as well

I'm sure multiple spills of a known carcinogen into water ways/supplies don't mean shit.
I'm sure multiple spills of a known carcinogen into water ways/supplies don't mean shit.
yeah when you get all hysterical about a huge as fuck pipeline having ten (10) spills over five (5) years without thinking about the sheer size of it yeah maybe hmm
Has to be intentional.
Has to be intentional.
Proof? Why do you think it's intentional?
You really do think everyone on this planet is a nice and caring person, don't you? What a naive way of looking at the world.
There's a real possibility of it being sabotage.
What a wonderfully hyperbolic (hyperbollocks more like) overexaggeration of what he was saying.
