Fuck I hope they pull off the swampy feeling in this game well, looks like it's actually in Louisiana. Would be the first GTA-esque game I can play of my state. Would be aweesome :v:
So it's the Goodfellas era? God damnit I have never been this hyped since the reveal of GTA V. Hope they bring back the dogs.
I hope they won't have to cut so much stuff this time. This really could be good if it brings back all the cut content on top of new features and the new time setting.
Wasn't it rumored that they were talking with the GTA devs about ideas for the gameplay or something like that? Maybe they can manage to make a decent open world setup for activities to do this time around.
Then I saw some videos from the English dumb and I wept sorrowfully, because it's just incredibly disappointing in comparison. All of the soul of the characters is done, and while it's still imho mechanically and gameplay wise an excellent game, it loses the most important thing - the, to this day absolutely amazing atmosphere and spirit.
God, that's what I figured when I found a video of the Czech version. I don't understand the language whatsoever, but everyone sounds so much more menacing in that one. The lip syncing is better too, in the English version the characters have a habit of kinda going "muh muh muh muh" with their mouths. IMO the main characters are fine in the English dub, but 100% of the generic mobsters sound like Tommy Wiseau, both in voice and delivery.
I hope the open world is something akin to GTA, and while Mafia 2 was a great game, it wasn't much of a open world really. I mean, you only had like 10 shops to go to, and you really didn't have much interaction with the world.
That was always my problem with Mafia, I've never played 2 but in 1 there's so many different ways to get around the world and so much to explore but it all gets shoved into a separate game mode. You can go off the beaten path in the main game, but so often it's obvious the game trying to push you to play it they way it wants you to play it, and not the other way around. That's not to say I don't think the game is great anyway, but it just feels like wasted potential y'know?
My body is so fucking ready.
I just hope they don't saddle you with the timed mission bullshit that needlessly rushed you in the DLCs Also if the vehicle physics stay the same then I will be all over this

Mafia II was a commercially decent, GTA V was a total hit, and TakeTwo more than anyone knows that Sandboxes sell, especially when done well. It's right there under their nose, use the assets they know are good at making sandbox games to help that other, potentially high selling sandbox game to sell even better. It would just make sense.
It looks like this game will have a completely different developer from the last two installments, with Hangar 13 making it? I wasnt really able to find any info on this studio though.
Oh, it's set in Louisiana? That's where I live. I am especially very interested to see how the world looks now.
I want a little bit more than Mafia 2 gave us. Sure, Mafia 2 was pretty, it was cool, but it was shallow as all hell and had very little going on beyond being a story driven game. Hey, that's awesome, and I love those, but it's a clear sandbox-y game. Can we get a bit more on that front? Can I be the don and make real impactful decisions or at least manage the finances and expansion of my mob? That's what I really want by the end of the game.
hoping the freeroam is actually fun now
YES and god damn i that 60's to 70's era is so under explored this is going to be damn interesting :hypeisreal:
If they add more sandbox it should be amazing. M2 had pretty much nothing to do besides story missions. I want to earn cash, buy cars and houses, manage my family and a lot of fun shit. Maybe even commit heists with family.

Mafia is obviously very much supposed to be story-driven.
I highly doubt they'd ever even try to go that far. Mafia is obviously very much supposed to be story-driven.
IIRC Mafia 1 had quite a decent sandbox
IIRC Mafia 1 had quite a decent sandbox
Not really. The main game was very much story focused, there was no freeroam at all in that and the separate freeroam mode didn't really have much going on in it either.
I highly doubt they'd ever even try to go that far. Mafia is obviously very much supposed to be story-driven.
It's a great opportunity to expand.
I highly doubt they'd ever even try to go that far. That was always the biggest flaw for everyone I think, you had this amazing world to roam in, but nothing to do.
I really hope 2K doesn't fuck this one. Mafia II wasn't even a mafia game. It was a buddy game with a mafia undertone. And even then it was only half-decently executed. Even then the story felt incredibly rushed and the campaign was way too short for an open world game. I think what annoyed me the most was that 2K cut all the side missions from the dock-worker dude and repackaged it as paid DLC with little to no meaning or purpose for the sake of an "arcade mode experience." Jimmy's Vendetta suffered the same fate. And a lot of the stuff shown in trailers like needed a gun permit were stripped away for no reason. And with how 2K so poorly executed Evolve and making it a literal DLC: The Game game I can't see this one faring much better. I really hope I'm wrong, but 2K burned me with a collector's edition for a half-baked product that left a sour taste in my mouth. The only saving grace we have here is that Rockstar is helping out.
Mafia II was a game that I played expecting to be mediocre but BOY was I happily surprised how good the game actually was, real hidden gem that I would have never played if I wasn't told about it by a friend. Safe to say im excited for this one.
Unfortunately, I was told about it by my cousin who overhypes ANYTHING he wants (which usually end up being things like Brink) so I assumed it was shit until I got it for free from the Golden Joysticks. All they need to do is add a good sandbox and this will be awesome. Oh yes and get rid of the timed mission BS
you'd be wrong, it was more basic than mafia 2's sandbox well actually idk, it had some missions apparently but they were all kinda out there and completion of the missions didn't really give any tangible rewards save for some cars spawning in the open world
Then do I remember them selling Mafia 2 with a lot more sandbox features than what we got? I know they pitched at some point
Rumors had it that this'd be in either Batson Rouge or New Orleans, judging by the alligators they're right
Baton Rouge or New Orleans? Fucking awesome. I've lived in both cities. It will be so fun to look at the game and see how accurate it is.
It's not gonna be set in any real city, it'll be a fictional one loosely based on some real one. Neither Mafia 1 or 2 were set in any real cities.
Mafia II could have been a great game if 2K didn't cut all this content:
Rumors had it that this'd be in either Batson Rouge or New Orleans, judging by the alligators they're right
If they set it in NOLA I'll be happy as hell. That's my city so it'd be cool to see how accurate they are to the real thing.
