I wasn't even aware that the New Orleans Mafia was powerful in the 70s. I was hoping it would be around the same period as 2 or even earlier like the Prohibition era since that's when they had the most power and also because I wanted to fight the KKK.

I'd expect at least one KKK encounter, but you can bet on the Dixie Mafia being around.

You just don't think of Louisiana when you think of that era and crime. I liked the New York (I'm sorry, "Empire Bay") setting partly because there was a variety of gangs like the Irish and Chinese and whatnot along with the Italians. Louisiana is just less culturally diverse which seems less exciting to me.

You had people like the New Orleans crime family including Silver Dollar Sam and Little Man Marcello. Also New Orleans is pretty culturally diverse, and I'd expect it to be so in the 60's and 70's. Plus you got the whole racial segregation problem ongoing along with racial crimes, and if they include an African-American main character, you'll definitely have some interesting missions come from it. You also had the Marcello family who had owned, and still owns, southern Louisiana swamp property. It's possible they dumped bodies there for the gators too, which might be what the Mafia 3 pic alludes too(which would be badass). I'm expecting Mafia 3 to have a huge backlash however if they decide to incorporate racism, even though it's appropriate for the era, the media will make a big problem about it. So either they'll deal with the media backlash or tone down elements of the game. So it'll be interesting how they pull off a 60's/70's Louisiana/New Orleans and/or Baton Rouge.
The only reason I can think of to specifically include two Italians and one black main character is to play off the racism and discrimination. If they have you playing as different characters, they could really drive home how differently whites and blacks were treated by having the same NPCs interact differently with you. If this was the Czech studio I'd have no doubt they'll be playing with those aspects - they certainly didn't shy away from it in Mafia 2 - but I'm somewhat afraid that the new studio, being US-based, will hold back. Also, judging by the presence of the gator in the teaser banner, I'm certain they're referencing the Marcellos.

Yes, a new studio under 2K called Hangar 13. Their team seems to have good background, and I want to believe 2K wouldn't give Mafia 3 away to just anyone, so hopefully it'll still be good.
Louisiana is a pretty unique place, very interesting, hopefully it's not linear, tho.
Oh and Miami too. With gators and marshlands.
Finally the Vice City revisit i've been waiting for.

It looks decent but those cars exploding so easily bugs me. I wish I understood what that narrator was saying
Based off the gameplay it looks like shit, but who knows, it might be great when it comes out.
IIRC Mafia 1 had quite a decent sandbox
mafia 1 had a good story and absolutely zero sandbox in fact driving anywhere was boring as fuck because they stayed too true to being in a 1930s era vehicle so you were really only going like 30 miles an hour at any given point and going up a hill you were basically crawling.
Idk, it looks fun, but not mafia enough.
