The joke is to make the viewer think he means it as a racist term, but then shame them for thinking that when Richard says "It's definitely higher on this side than that side". Jeremy said nothing offensively.
Taken out of context then, sorta.
Okay chill out a bit, before I do funny stuff.

During the clip from the show, fellow presenter Richard Hammond is heart replying to Clarkson, saying: 'You're right, it's definitely higher on that side.'

I'd lung to see the Daily Mail get better editors.
Wot r u guys doing?
Satirizing the fact that people take offense to a common dictionary word, used in its proper context, that just happens to also have racist connotations which are not intended.

Dude it's a comedy show, of course it was intended
Thank god I was getting worried, We are 3 months into 2014 and there was nothing about jeremy clarkson being racist yet.
This was a big relief
but the guy walking towards them was james may, so a derogatory slope comment wouldn't have worked, and since the bridge was sloped, there was nothing wrong with his statement.
Dude it's a comedy show, of course it was intended
I meant that I didn't intend my comment that way (as an actual racist attack). Clarkson can intend whatever the hell he wants.
Sometimes I feel like people choose to take offence to the most random words for no reason other than to gain attention. I mean really, slopes? You're offended by a geometric term?
'That is a proud moment, but there's a slope on it', as a man walked towards them on their makeshift bridge over the River Kwai in Thailand.
For what exactly? They're making puns using racial slurs, not directing slurs at anyone at all.
What's wrong with that?
Well, I guess it's just the fact that highly offensive slurs are being thrown around so lightly. The same slurs that got you autobanned in the past and that would get you banned elsewhere in the forums.
So that's what I think is wrong with it. But I guess in the context it makes it cool then?
everyone is racist
wtf, is Slope a racist term now?
What was he supposed to say? Shallow Gradient? Small incline?
wtf, is Slope a racist term now?
Everything is racist when Clarkson says it.
wtf, is Slope a racist term now?
Yes, but as a slur it's far more popular in the US and Australia
Oh by the way if you're a US or Australian FP poster who's about to respond to this with "Uh I'm from Chicago/Sydney and I've never heard that???" please don't bother

Context is pretty important dude. I doubt any of the nerds making bad puns genuinely mean it as a slur towards Asians. At most they're satirizing the Daily Mail's reaction.
wtf, is Slope a racist term now?
Yes it has been used as a derogatory term referring to Asians. It didn't become a racist term on that bridge, no.
Ban this sick filth.

Well, to be fair, words like that can be an emotional trigger for people who have had the word directed at them in a derogatory sense in the past. That's the unfortunate connotation/denotation duality. But on the other hand, being personally offended doesn't mean that you should attack the person who said the word without knowing their intention.
I can't say I'll ever understand it myself. The worst we have is cracker. But honestly, I had no idea slope could be used that way. You learn something new every day I guess.
Anyone here remember that time when they claimed the phrase "nitty gritty" was a racial slur?
Okay chill out a bit, before I do funny stuff.
The word nigger in itself is not a bad word, it depends on your use of it. They aren't using the words in a derogatory manner or cause offense so what they are doing is not wrong.

yeah but seriously go say the n word anywhere
it doesn't fly
yeah but seriously go say the n word anywhere

Unless you're black or have black friends.
I think its stupid that we seriously do treat the word nigger like its fucking Voldemort from Harry Potter, stop being upset over some damn words. The word faggot should be every bit as bad yet fpr some reason its not. We shouldn't give preferential treatment to words like that.

It's the Daily Mail; why would they check their facts prior to starting a fuckstorm?

Hold your tongue you racist bastard.
In fact, never say anything at all, you may inadvertently make someone sad.
the only good y = mx+b is a dead y = mx+b

Death to those with a dy/dx < 0.
I'm looking at you, exponential decay functions.
I say a call like that is worth being branded racist over.

how the fuck is nigger NOT a "bad word" by itself?
the word was literally invented to be derogatory.
I can't believe he's only 53
