http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-34206728
Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson has stepped aside and other DUP ministers are to resign as a result of the political crisis at Stormont. He has asked his party colleague Arlene Foster to take over as acting first minister, after the DUP failed to get enough support to adjourn the assembly. The crisis was sparked by an ex-IRA man's murder and a police assessment IRA members may have been involved. Mr Robinson said the latest problems have "pushed devolution to the brink".
So, what does this mean, exactly?
So, what does this mean, exactly?
Northern Ireland might be run directly by the UK government for a while until the crisis can be resolved
Northern Ireland might be run directly by the UK government for a while until the crisis can be resolved
On one hand the Tories are awful On the other the DUP was also awful I feel like very little is going to change, maybe we'll finally get legalised gay marriage?
Then Ireland invades to unite /s
good
Then Ireland invades to unite /s
I don't think Ireland even has an airforce equipped to deal with a flock of angry pidgeons

o shit
As far as i know we have 10,000 troops and 4 army helicopters that may or may not work. Russia want to help us?
If war starts in Ireland, I will scream. Russia will arrive with reason: "we want to protect Russian people".
Labour are worse
no they're not [editline]10th September 2015[/editline] i'm glad the DUP is dying. i hope the heads of that party fuck off and don't re-enter politics
Stormont is run by a bunch of children.
So, what does this mean, exactly?
The Republic and Northern won't unite under the same flag if that's what you're thinking. Politics and public opinion aside the economic burden would be far to much. But it could lead to IRA shit going on again.
This is exactly what the Dup/Uup want. Despite entering a voting pact to get more seats in Stormont they still failed to get anything concrete from the advantage, ( mostly because Nationalists and moderate Unionists can't stand their loopy policies) This murder is exactly what they needed to kick and scream "themmuns!" and hold the entire powersharing executive hostage. Robinson and Dodds are rubbing their hands with glee at the idea of everything built up over the years collapsing.
DUP and UUP are just playing around, throwing tantrums and spinning everything for their own purpose while everyone else is forced to play ball. As usual.
Northern Ireland might be run directly by the UK government for a while until the crisis can be resolved
Will that be a major problem?
Will that be a major problem?
Nationalists in NI want to leave the UK so the though of London taking over power even if it's just for a little while is going to stir up all kinds of shit with the possibility of the IRA and 'The Troubles' rearing their heads once more, and that's not good for anyone. Just look at the Orange marches to get some kind of idea.

People will be disappointed, any trust gained between the opposing parties (which to be fair was little to begin with) will be gone. The public on both sides won't suddenly just decide to start donning balaclavas and murdering each other in the streets again. Those days are over.
Just the DUP/UUP throwing the toys out of the pram as usual, while sticking fingers in their ears and ignoring all the unionist paramilitaries' existence. Stormont is a fucking joke in general so this hasn't surprised me.

This is the kind of shit which riles them up. And it's not the old members of say the IRA who are like 50+ Years of age which are the problem, it's their kids who have been brought up to harbor the same kind of petulant hatred of the other side that ensures there will always be some kind of divide in NI. It only takes a small fire to become a raging inferno so never rule it out.

Tell me really, why can't Northern Ireland join the rest of Ireland? I really, really do not understand why the fuck it doesn't happen, every time I look at the situation I eventually give up. I'm told it's political, and I'm told it's religious, and some people say it's both and others say it's neither of those two and give me some snowflake reason. Can't you all just live together in peace and harmony and potato? :(

You'd upset more people and cause more problems than the current situation for sure.
I think there'd need to be a pretty large shift in culture and national identity, as well as that an ironclad federal plan would need to be in place before the prospect of reunification became wholly appealing to all sides. In the "what if," reunification just fundamentally seems like the best endgame plan in the longrun, but the execution of reunification would just be a very rocky transition in practicality unless it was fully supported by everybody.
They (majority) don't want to join the rest of Ireland, why should they be forced to?
I'm not saying they should be forced to, I just don't understand why there has to be all this controversy surrounding it. I guess I'm half expecting the issue to have about as much weight as Puerto Rico becoming our 51st state.
The whole reason for the division of the communities is stupid anyway, the South doesn't want us, and neither does Britain, simply put we're nothing but a hole that money is thrown into with little return. This is why the whole Unionist/Republican thing is kinda silly, neither side realises that the country they want to belong to doesn't give a shit since they have their own problems e.g if the the Queen herself came over to Belfast and told the DUP she was giving NI to the South she'd probably get called a Republican and ran out of the country. I mean Britain is a bit fucked with all Cameron's stupid austerity crap and the Euro's in a terrible state, not exactly like we have the best of both worlds to choose from. Edit: Actually while I'm in the middle of a small rant, another thing we have to put up with is the fact that the fucking Torys got voted in again with no input from us (NI), so we have to deal with Stormont's stupidity AND Cameron's at the same time, talk about a boiling pot of politics.
Ireland should just join the uk itself, no reason for there to be a split in the first place, it's blind patriotism
