Here's a better article: https://www.texastribune.org/2015/05/14/end-road-tesla-uber-bills/
It also killed bills for Lyft and Uber.
Everythings bigger in texas! Except, you know, the free market.

....... ?
I mean not that I don't agree, but it clearly isn't true in this case. The bill to let Tesla sell their cars received bipartisan support, it just hit the deadline before it could be passed through.
According to a recent report by Texans for Public Justice, a liberal watchdog group that tracks the influence of money in politics, dealer interests outspent Musk 40 to 1 in the 2014 election cycle — contributing more than $1 million to Gov. Greg Abbott and almost $800,000 to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
Holy fucking shit why aren't you guys rioting? That's a giant green arrow pointing to senators with "THIS GUY IS CORRUPT" written all over it
I wonder, is this a thing in my country too?
Someone get the cemetary on the phone, we gotta dig up Nikola for car dealer negotiations.
Have fun prying him out of his orb.
Clearly if he cant even get the name of the CEO right he doesn't give a shit and is most certainly being paid off. I don't know why we allow such blatant corruption.
Identity politics and ideological addiction.
Hello, Texas. Automotive industry here. Hey, this Tesla stuff is threatening to force us to adapt our increasingly outdated business models to a market wherein customers have better choices at more competitive prices. Anything you can do about that? Throw up some pointless roadblocks that force them to give us a cut of the pie for no particular reason, maybe? I know that what I'm asking is contrary to everything a competitive market is supposed to stand for, and is arguably unconstitutional, but, you know... I'll pay you.
"Capitalism."
This is just going to make people buy from other states.
Texas will not be allowing the auto manufacturer to sell direct to consumers after legislation failed to pass the state legislature despite support from both parties.
The democracy sure is strong with this one.
The Senate bill never even drew a hearing in the Committee on Natural Resources and Economic Development. State Sen. Troy Fraser, the committee’s chairman, recently told The Texas Tribune that the reason was simple: His members didn’t want to do so until the House passed its version. He said he sees no reason to “piss off all the auto dealers’’ on a vote that he believes would ultimately be meaningless.
Niiiice.
That's why you 3D print the printer and the materials as well
BUT WHO PRINTS THE PRINTERS??!??!?
Someone needs to do something about all this lobbying on the part of Mr. Chrysler and General Motors. I mean, the second guy is a general. He shouldn't be acting in such an anti-American way.

Yes let's hate on republicans solely even though democrats are against Tesla as well.
Quit fucking making us out like we're the worst things on the planet

He didn't really mention the political party, he said Conservatives, Conservatives can be either Democratic or Republican. I don't understand why people worry so much about the parties themselves, it's just fuel for a division amongst people, ignore the parties entirely and you have almost no-one to really count on to make anything right.

You're not wrong. However generally people use conservative and republican interchangeably.
What really pisses me off is whenever some dumbass Republican says/does something dumb, everyone hops on the bandwagon to point out how terrible the GOP is, but whenever a democrat does something equally as bad it is rarely pointed out, and if it is everyone will just ignore it.
Some republicans in congress right now are complete turds, but not all are like that. There's some bad apples in the democrats as well.

Bud I'm a registered republican, I've voted in Republican in every election since I turned 18.
If Democrats vote against free-market style policies, then that makes sense, because generally their party is against non-regulated economics and "free market" economic viewpoints. If a conservative votes for economic regulations, specifically against a specific business, then thats literally the opposite of his/her party's viewpoint for economic policy. It would be like a tea-party-er voting for an assault weapons ban. It doesn't fall in line with his party.
Why is our government like this
Because Democrats want there to be a middleman between car companies and customers

Unfortunately the media can be a bad place for anyone to extract information from, don't blame the the ones that do mix the terms up though, many of the media companies often can leave out important events and details to bring their viewers opinion to a side they may favor for them to have.
Hell, once I learned that this was happening I stopped watching TV all together, it really skewered my political viewpoints and I feel betrayed by the stations I once trusted.
Now I just rely on personal research on anyone that can have a significant impact on my life.

Please share?
I do not align either left or right and having a well formed position against both is very difficult.
BUT WHO PRINTS THE PRINTERS??!??!?
Which came first? The printer or the printer?
Which came first? The printer or the printer?
Well the large 3d printer at kent state is made of primarily 3d printed parts, so I'd going to have to go with the printer.

Because nobody cares enough to actually do something, easier to complain about problems than to fix them, and if you fix the problems then you won't have any to complain about, and as much as they'll deny it nobody actually wants that.

Is that not a Democrat criticizing Tesla up there?
I'm kind of surprised that this is going on. While I'm not too impressed with Tesla this does kind of run contrary to the idea of the free market, in Texas of all places.

Yes it is but your name is troll....
The idiocy of this just befuddles me.
Do these people honestly not understand how Tesla works?
It doesn't matter if you don't allow them a brick-and-mortar store. You can buy the fucking car online and have it shipped to your house. You could also, I'm pretty sure, buy the car out of state and then register it in your state.

I've seen plenty of Tesla's here. Saw 3 in one day driving through Houston once. These laws just prohibit the store from telling you the price and selling points of the cars, and actually placing the order through them. You can still go to the showrooms, sit in a car, chat with an employee, then go home, place your order, and get one from out state.
The problem is the Autodealer lobby is too strong. Tesla bumped up their Lobbying group for this run, and I imagine they'll bring more in 2017. Texas politics is who can throw the most money at the representative, unfortunately.
I never really followed Tesla Motors because I am a millennial who isn't interested in cars, so what exactly is Tesla doing that is getting it banned from being sold the old fashioned way in like every other state? I remember apparently the media didn't like Tesla at all or something.

Read the op.
They are selling directly to the customer, rather than going through a dealership.
